Chapter 12: Chapter 12: A Fantasy World
Perhaps it was the darkness of the night, or perhaps the beasts were hungry. After a tiger's roar, a series of heavy roars followed one after another. Li Ge trembled. It wasn't just one, but a group.
Looking at the wolf, who was weak from the transformation, Li Ge's body gradually stiffened. She couldn't let those big beasts discover Mo.
Sensing Li Ge's tension, the wolf tilted its head and licked her face, its eyes filled with unparalleled confidence. It winked at her, signaling her not to worry.
Li Ge forced a smile. She whispered to the wolf, "Let's go."
Hearing the increasingly close and chaotic footsteps, Li Ge knew those tigers would soon find them. The priority now was to find a secluded place.
To Li Ge's surprise, the wolf shook its head and didn't agree with her suggestion. But she immediately understood its meaning. Any slight breeze could alert the group of extremely hungry beasts. For now, the only option was to stay silent in the darkness and hope the tigers wouldn't discover them. But looking at the wolf's cunning green eyes, Li Ge thought it was unlikely they could escape those tigers with equally sharp eyes.
"Xiao Hei, climb the tree!" She would definitely stay with Ling Mo. As for Xiao Hei, Li Ge certainly didn't want it to end up in the tiger's mouth.
The spirit mink pouted its pointed little mouth, its small eyes shining in the dark night. Then, it looked at its owner with tearful eyes. Although it was just a beast, it also understood the human saying 'stand together in adversity.' How could it abandon its master and escape?
Every time it used this trick, its master would definitely surrender. But this time, it was beyond its expectations. It only heard Li Ge's stern whisper, "Hurry up and go, or I'll be angry."
Her master usually didn't get angry, but once she did, the consequences were something it didn't want to remember. Having followed her master for three years, the spirit mink had only caused trouble once, and the lesson it learned was bloody.
Thinking of the nearly month-long non-beast life, the spirit mink shivered. It looked at its owner one last time and found that there was no compromise in her eyes. Helplessly, it twisted its hips and scrambled up the nearest old tree.
Just as the spirit mink stabilized itself, a tiger's roar almost pierced its eardrums.
"Awooo… awooo…"
Dong, dong, dong, the footsteps grew more and more hurried. Perhaps those beasts had smelled a strange scent. The heavy footsteps shook the ground, and the leaves rustled. A foul smell also drifted with the breeze towards where the man and wolf were hiding.
Although she was prepared to be bitten to death by the beasts, Li Ge couldn't help but lean against the wolf. Judging by the footsteps, she knew there were at least a hundred beasts. Unlike the time she was bitten by the brown bear, her small body wouldn't be enough for one bite.
The wolf's pride flashed in its eyes. It licked Li Ge's palm and then arched her behind it, a bloodthirsty light flashing in its green eyes.
"Awooo…"
The leading tiger had seen the man and wolf. It tilted its head towards the sky and roared, as if thanking heaven for sending them this meager food.
Snarl, snarl, snarl.
The remaining hundred or so beasts began to stir, their eyes filled with greed and ferocity when they met food.
"Awooo…" The leading tiger roared at the restless hundred beasts behind it.
The hundred beasts, hearing the leader's majestic roar, slowly quieted down and began to retreat in an orderly manner. They moved slowly, and within a short time, they formed a circle around Li Ge and the wolf, all staring intently at the good-smelling food in the center.
The leading tiger also stood in the circle, its eyes fixed on the wolf. It was the king of beasts and had a special sensitivity to any beast that could be its opponent. The wolf in front of it looked strong and sturdy and was probably the most powerful opponent it had encountered since it had dominated the forest.
People have a sense of admiration for opponents of equal strength, and beasts do too. Regardless of who lived or died, at least at this moment, they were without regret.
Li Ge looked at the scene, her mind blank. What was going on? A one-on-one duel?
She rubbed her eyes hard, but everything remained the same. If it were any other time, she would have burst out laughing. She hadn't expected these beasts to have a sense of heroism. Looking at Ling Mo's eyes, which were still filled with bloodlust, Li Ge was dumbfounded. It turned out that this guy knew this would happen all along.
"Awooo… awooo… awooo…" A wolf howl louder than any before rang in Li Ge's ears.
Li Ge looked at the wolf in surprise. The howl just now was completely different from the past. It was different from the mournful howl during the transformation or the warning howl when repelling various animals. She had never heard such a majestic and domineering howl.
Li Ge knew that this wolf was definitely a wolf king in the wolf pack. Given time, it would definitely dominate the entire forest.
As expected, after the howl, Li Ge heard faint wolf howls in the distance. Judging by the sound, Li Ge knew there were a considerable number of them.
After the distant wolf howls, the beasts in the circle began to stir restlessly again. They pawed at the ground and wanted to rush towards the man and wolf, wanting to tear them apart.
The leading tiger scanned the restless beasts and they immediately deflated like punctured balloons, staring at the wolf raising its head proudly.
Li Ge stared at everything in a daze. She cried out in her heart, had the world become fantastical? Not only were the animals human-like, but they also had discipline like humans. Originally, she thought Xiao Hei was already unique, but looking at the circle of beasts, Li Ge silently felt sad. It seemed her Xiao Hei only understood the basics.
The leading tiger and the wolf stared at each other, and their beastly eyes attacked each other in the air. After a long time, both beasts nodded. Li Ge hadn't figured out what was going on when the wolf bit her clothes and dragged her out of the tiger circle. By the time she came to her senses, the wolf had dragged her to the base of the tree where the spirit mink was squatting.
She already understood its meaning over these few days.
"Are you asking me to climb the tree?" Li Ge asked.
The wolf nodded.
"What about you?"
She didn't need to ask. She knew it must have reached some kind of agreement with the beasts for her safety.
Li Ge shook her head, determined to live and die with Mo.
The wolf arched its head against Li Ge, its eyes filled with affection, and Li Ge's heart sweetened. She also understood that she would only be a burden if she stayed below.
"Let's run away?" Li Ge whispered to the wolf, leaning close to its ear.
Hearing Li Ge's childish words, a smile thickened in the wolf's eyes. After a moment, it looked at Li Ge, its pride evident.
