DxD 0018: Ambushed by Priests
“Are you no more than a helpless damsel, Akeno?” He asked in a terrifying tone as he looked deep into her guilty eyes, completely ignoring the priest of the church who’d just attacked her, “This weakling should be easy for you to take care of, but you couldn’t even react. What use is power if you don’t even have the mindset to use it?” He reprimanded her.
Seeing her trembling expression, he realized that his voice which was infused with the Power of Destruction was too overbearing and wasn’t having the correct effect that he wanted. He said with a gentle voice, “You’re my Akeno-chan, right?” He cupped the side of her face with a gentle touch as she unhesitantly nodded.
“Don’t ignore me!” The priest went ballistic as he saw that the devil was ignoring him and started chanting something, summoning another spear of light.
He still ignored the crazy priest, “Then take care of our enemies, okay?” He asked her. She nodded in agreement as a determined expression formed in front of her face, “Wait, enemies?!” “Yeah, enemies. Plural.” He said nonchalantly.
“You fucking devil!” The priest shouted and threw another spear at Abaddon who turned around and glanced at it indifferently, letting it approach him.
Before the spear could even touch him, it was disintegrated by his Armor of Destruction. He extended his wings and flew up into the sky, observing Akeno who’d already charged a spell of lightning and attacked the priest.
He was in his Armor of Destruction, with his arms crossed as his wings flapped, keeping him airborne. He glanced in multiple directions as he counted the enemies, ‘7 priests, this was a planned ambush, I guess when we kept going all around the town, we were noticed by some of the more radical church dumbfucks…’ He thought.
Just as the lightning left Akeno’s magic circle and hit the priest, stunning him, her first move was to create multiple barriers around her to protect herself from being ambushed by the companions of the person she’d just incapacitated.
Just as the barriers were established, 3 more spears of light were thrown in her direction, colliding with her barriers and leaving them slightly cracked. ‘Not bad, she can hold off holy attacks with her barriers without too much of an issue.’ These priests were horrible matchups for Akeno. She was a devil and their holy magic was going to be a big challenge for her as every devil was weak to it.
Not wasting any time, Akeno’s devil wings extended from her back and she took flight so that she would have more room to maneuver. It would also help her avoid the attacks of the priests.
‘Are they holding their men back on my account?’ Abaddon thought before deciding to disappear so that they would all attack Akeno. He wanted to see her pushed to her limits. He created a real camouflage spell that would also work on the priests and showed the image of him leaving and seemingly abandoning Akeno. Though, in reality, he was still in the air above the battlefield, invisible to the priests.
“The other’s gone boys, let’s get rid of this devil once and for all before he calls for backup!” Akeno heard a voice call out from the side and all of the assailants finally stepped up.
5 of them surrounded her while the 6th went to treat the 7th whom Akeno had blasted with her lightning. Akeno had no thought of running away as she understood that this was a test that Abaddon had for her. Since he’d already noticed them, he could’ve easily avoided them. The fact that she was in this situation meant that he’d done all this deliberately.
‘I’ll show you my determination…’ She clenched her fists and strengthened her barriers so that they could at least take three shots from the assailants.
Akeno quickly channeled another offensive spell as she dodged the attacks from the new priests that had just arrived at the scene. They had some artifacts similar to guns that released holy projectiles at Akeno that she had to constantly dodge. Her barriers were stationary after being cast, so she had to maneuver around to utilize those barriers to block the projectiles.
As she finally channeled her spell despite the distractions of the fight, she shot it at the most troublesome priest, the one who’d ordered the others. His aim was the best and was causing her the most trouble.
Sadly for Akeno, it just wasn’t her day, her attack projectile was blocked by the priest. He seemed to have already expected her attack. ‘Damn it…’ She cursed. She would’ve tried making some quips or remarks to throw them off of their game, but she was too occupied to even have the chance to say anything.
On the other hand, the priests had no such qualms and kept taunting her. Though she was able to tune out their words with ease, if she had something going for her, it was self-control.
‘I have to play smart.’ She decided to think out a strategy as she was just a sitting duck here. Even with her barriers, she had to keep dodging. And her barriers were also going to stop holding soon. Even now, she had to keep restoring them repeatedly.
She thought of a plan and started channeling her spell, it was taking quite a bit of her demonic energy, but it was necessary for her to get some sort of leverage over the priests. She kept dodging while channeling the spell and when it was done she whispered, “Tundra…” And cast a white icy beam down to the ground.
Soon, the entire ground around her was covered in ice and the battlefield was suddenly an advantageous terrain for her. She could fly to avoid the slippery ice, but the priests couldn’t fly and things got difficult for them.
Though casting that spell left Akeno winded as she also had to dodge around while channeling one of her unspecialized elements.
With the slippery terrain, the rate of attacks decreased and Akeno had some leeway to attack now. She again started charging a lightning attack to hit one of the others, leaving the leader for later. Though she still had to dodge around, it was easier. Soon the spell was ready and she shot it toward one of the unsuspecting ones, hitting the guy right in his crotch.
Even Abaddon flinched from far away as he saw her action, ‘Brutal…’ That was when he saw her expression that seemed to be ecstatic and mixed with hints of lust. ‘A sadist? But that doesn’t make sense… This girl is a switch!’ He realized. Akeno was both a sadist and a submissive. She was such a shy girl who practically invited him to dominate her, but to these enemies, she was completely sadistic, deriving pleasure from the pain she inflicts on them.
‘This opens so many avenues…’ He had many different ideas for dates with Akeno now.
With the second guy taken care of, Akeno smiled and maneuvered around as she charged another spell. With the lower pressure due to another enemy down, she was able to charge it quicker and released another attack at another unsuspecting guy. This attack hit him right in his face, making Akeno smile even wider as her breaths were heavy for a reason more than just her tiredness.
Sadly for her, she was a mage-type through and through, not very used to physical activity, she was getting tired and it was showing as her actions got slower. Though she made sure to pay attention to all of the people on the battlefield as she charged another attack.
At this point, three were down and three were still attacking her.
“Ah!” She got hurt by a bullet that had come from one of her undefended spots, it had hit her at the side of her stomach, leaving a gash that dripped with blood. ‘Who?’ She looked around, she’d had her eyes on the three attackers but they weren’t the ones who’d shot her just now.
‘Fuck, I forgot about the healer!’ She remembered as she saw the first guy whom she’d knocked out.
Things just got difficult for her as her pressure increased while she also targeted the healer with her attacks. Though after three unsuccessful attempts, she gave up and decided to take care of them quicker. She was getting more and more tired and she knew that she had to hurry up to take care of them.
She was out of ideas and could only target the person whom she’d attacked first and knock him out. By then, the healer had awoken another of the knocked-out people.
Soon, after taking out two more, she was shot again, this time on the side of her arm. And these were holy projectiles, they were already corroding her body and she was feeling herself getting weaker by the moment.
All the while, Abaddon watched with an indifferent expression, though his eyes had a whole different story, he wanted to go and help her. But that wasn’t going to help her get stronger. She had to learn to go through pressure and problems. He was here right now and this was a controlled environment.
So, even if Akeno failed right now, he was there to take care of her. But what if she failed at a time when he wasn’t there for her? This was the reason that he wasn’t making a move even though he wanted to sweep Akeno off of her wings and fix everything for her like a knight in shining armor.
