Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Summoning Koneko
Walking home alone, Blake glanced at the quiet house. After setting aside his Frost Whisper Sword, he began cooking and boiling water.
"Phew, after getting used to Airi and Marina's care, spending the night alone feels a little strange," he murmured after finishing his tasks, sitting at the dining table.
"Hm?"
At that moment, his gaze fell on a piece of paper on the TV, faintly emitting magical energy. He raised an eyebrow.
"Grant my wish, huh..."
Getting up, he picked up the piece of paper with the magic circle drawn on it. A slight smile curved his lips.
He knew what it was—a summoning paper for Devils. He had received it a long time ago and placed it casually on the TV without using it.
After a moment of hesitation, he decided to activate the summoning circle inscribed on the paper.
With a flash of bright light, a crimson magic circle with intricate designs appeared on the ground.
In the next instant, a young girl emerged before Blake.
She looked about thirteen or fourteen years old, her petite frame barely reaching Blake's chest. She had a slender build, silver shoulder-length hair, and a black cat-shaped accessory pinned near her temple, exuding cuteness.
But most captivating was her doll-like face, smooth and delicate. Though slightly youthful, her features formed a stunningly crafted visage, framed by her large, golden eyes.
However, her adorable face was nearly devoid of emotion.
"Koneko, huh? I thought it'd be Rias-senpai."
Seeing the petite girl, Blake raised his hand in greeting. Toujou Koneko, the silent loli often regarded as the academy's mascot, and, in reality, Rias Gremory's Rook.
"Blake-senpai…?"
Koneko's golden eyes blinked in confusion as she stared at him, unsure why she had been summoned.
"Well, I came across this thing by chance and thought I'd give it a try," Blake explained with a soft chuckle, his relaxed expression surprising Koneko.
In her impression, this senior, like herself, carried heavy burdens and an unpleasant past, often maintaining a cold demeanor. To see him smile was unthinkable.
"Blake-senpai, do you have a wish you'd like to fulfill?"
After a moment of hesitation, Koneko asked the customary question.
"A wish, huh? Hmm, just keep me company—let's have dinner and play some games. It's kind of boring being alone," he said as he walked into the kitchen to fetch an extra set of utensils.
"...Alright."
Startled by his words, Koneko hesitated before stepping closer. Though her expression remained stoic, there was a subtle hint of cheerfulness in her demeanor. After all, she enjoyed food and games.
For the next two hours, Blake merely treated Koneko to food and a few rounds of his sole fighting game.
"By the way, Koneko, could you relay a message to Rias-senpai for me? I've decided to join the Occult Research Club," he said after delivering yet another KO to Koneko's character.
"Huh…? I understand, senpai."
Koneko blinked in surprise at first, tilting her head slightly, but eventually nodded.
"Now that the task is done, do you need any compensation?" Blake asked with a smile, putting down the controller.
"No need. Senpai's food and games were compensation enough. But I do have a request—please summon me again when you have time. I must defeat you," Koneko said firmly, her eyes fixed on the game screen in unwilling defeat.
"Uh... I got it."
Raising an eyebrow, Blake chuckled softly. He hadn't expected Koneko to be so persistent about the game.
"Good night."
With that, Koneko activated her magic circle and disappeared.

Occult Research Club
"Koneko, good work."
Rias greeted the returning Koneko warmly as she emerged from the magic circle.
"President, Blake-senpai was the one who summoned me. He said he has decided to join the Occult Research Club," Koneko stated calmly after a brief pause.
"Oh? He agreed?"
Rias's face lit up with delight at the news.
"President, I don't think Blake-senpai is as cold as he appears. In fact, he seems... very gentle," Koneko remarked thoughtfully.
Reflecting on the past two hours, Koneko spoke again, recounting what had happened and offering her evaluation.
"Gentle, huh? It seems he has sides to him I don't know about."
Hearing this, a faint smile appeared on Rias's lips, her emerald eyes growing slightly distant. Exceptional swordsmanship, hidden strength, calm confidence, a touch of mischief, and now, a surprisingly gentle demeanor.
Blake, what are you hiding beneath that façade of indifference?
"President?"
"Nothing. Alright, that's enough for today. Let's head home."
"Okay."
Awakened by Koneko's voice, Rias shook her head and led her out.
Lia, if you knew your brother's current state, I think you'd be happy...
