Night deepened quietly, another two hours slipping past unnoticed.

It was now already 10:00 PM.

Nagisa, fresh from their final shower session, lay cozily nestled beneath her comforter. Her wine-red eyes, still glistening softly from lingering moisture, gently observed Bokue standing beside the bed.

"Already past ten, huh? I wonder if Yukina-chan's asleep by now," Bokue mused, glancing at his phone screen.

Earlier, after Nagisa's relentless insistence, he had finally agreed to stay over at Yukina's place for the next few days.

Thinking back, he remembered his casual remark to Asagi a few hours ago about the Lion King Organization arranging his accommodations. Originally, he'd used that excuse solely to cover up his intention of staying at Nagisa's place—but unexpectedly, that idle statement had now become reality.

Talk about words coming back to bite him.

"Don't worry~!" Nagisa confidently assured him, peeking out adorably from beneath her blanket. "From what I know, Yukina-chan's definitely still awake at this hour."

Then, realizing something, she quickly added with exaggerated seriousness, "But if you wait too much longer, Yukina-chan really might go to sleep~!"

"Alright, alright—I get it," Bokue chuckled, putting his phone away. "I'll head over now. You get some sleep too, okay?"

"I will… soon," Nagisa replied sweetly, giving him a lively, innocent smile.

"Soon?" Bokue raised an eyebrow curiously.

Spotting his confusion, Nagisa tilted her head slightly, looking mysteriously mischievous.

"Well, even though it's unlikely, there's always that tiny chance Yukina-chan refuses. In that case, Big Brother, you can always come right back here."

"…Are you planning to unlock the door for me or something?"

Bokue mentally rolled his eyes; he traveled via teleportation, after all. As long as he had her coordinates, locked doors posed no obstacle at all.

"Nope, that's not it~" Nagisa teased playfully, prolonging the suspense. "Where Big Brother ends up sleeping tonight decides how I'll be sleeping, you see."

'How she'll sleep'? he wondered. Does she want to emulate Kuroka's peculiar habit of staying connected all night? Wisely, Bokue kept the sarcastic remark to himself. Nagisa had swiftly transformed from an innocent, clueless girl into an audacious, seasoned player. One careless joke might push her teasing to unimaginable heights.

"Fine," he relented, sighing dramatically. "If I'm not back in five minutes, just go ahead and sleep."

"Ten minutes," Nagisa countered immediately.

"Alright, fine. Ten minutes," Bokue laughed lightly, shaking his head in defeat. A moment later, his figure flickered briefly before vanishing entirely from the bedroom.

Only after ensuring Bokue had really left did Nagisa release a small sigh of relief.

'Actually, Yukina-chan probably should've been asleep by now under normal circumstances,' she thought mischievously. 'But earlier, when Big Brother and I were busy "making cream" in the living room, I made sure to get pretty loud. Yukina-chan definitely would've heard that, right?'

Nagisa can only help you this far, Yukina-chan~!

Meanwhile, in Yukina's apartment next door…

She still sat on her bed, cheeks tinged pink, eyes unfocused.

The baking magazine she'd intended to memorize before bed lay forgotten on her bedside table. Usually composed and alert, the young Sword Shaman currently resembled a child who had secretly indulged in alcohol for the first time—slightly flushed, bewildered, and dazedly staring into empty space.

In her bedside trash bin sat several crumpled tissues, hinting silently at recent secret activities.

Suddenly—

Knock knock.

A gentle yet unexpected tapping at her door snapped Yukina from her dreamy stupor, along with the familiar voice of a certain young man.

"Yukina? You awake right now?"

"Ah? Y-yes, I am!" Yukina blurted out instinctively, her mind still not fully rebooted.

Immediately, she realized her mistake. Bokue had clearly asked if it was convenient for her to speak—but she had absentmindedly replied, "I'm here," without clarifying further.

Just as Yukina opened her mouth to correct herself, the door smoothly swung open, revealing Bokue calmly stepping into her room, exuding the fresh, soothing scent of body wash. Casually, he took a seat beside her bed.

Yukina blinked, still mildly confused. "Senpai, what's the matter? Why suddenly visit at this hour?"

"Ah, I just made a quick decision. I'll be staying on Itogami Island for the next few days," Bokue explained nonchalantly.

Yukina processed his words slowly. After two seconds' delay, the full weight of his statement hit her.

"Eh… wait—what? Senpai, you mean… why would you suddenly decide to stay on the island?!" Yukina's voice instantly rose, panic barely concealed beneath her startled expression.

Previously, Bokue had always returned to Kyoto or even to the Underworld to stay with Rias, not once using this supposed "safe house" arranged by the Lion King Organization.

Consequently, Yukina had never really considered the odd details—such as the apartment being clearly set up for one occupant with only one set of furniture—to be strange.

But if Bokue intended to stay here now, didn't that mean…

"Didn't you check the news today?" Bokue looked at her curiously.

"…News?" Yukina echoed blankly.

Raised in isolation at the Lion King Organization's shrine, Yukina had grown up without television or newspapers—she had barely any concept of "news." She owned a smartphone, yes, but used it essentially as an upgraded flip phone, never truly exploring its other capabilities.

"During dinner, I saw an article mentioning that the First Primogenitor is sending a diplomatic envoy to Itogami Island," Bokue summarized succinctly. "You understand what that implies, right? A Primogenitor coming here clearly involves Nagisa. I'm not sure exactly what they intend yet, but if they decide to 'test the waters'—"

"Itogami Island could be in grave danger," Yukina finished gravely, comprehension dawning.

Indeed, Primogenitors defied common sense. Having lived countless years, they were unpredictable beings capable of stirring up trouble on a whim. Itogami Island was an artificial construct, lacking a sturdy natural foundation. A full-powered assault from a Primogenitor would unquestionably sink it, generating tsunamis strong enough to threaten even Tokyo, hundreds of kilometers away.

"Precisely. So, staying here has become necessary," Bokue concluded firmly.

"W-wait! But Senpai… you don't mean you're planning to…"

"Surely you're not going to make me sleep on the couch, are you?" Bokue asked lightly, raising an eyebrow.

Yukina fell speechless.

He had a point. It was midsummer, unbearably hot without air conditioning or even a simple electric fan. The Lion King Organization was notoriously frugal, providing only minimal furnishings for this so-called safe house. The couch was tiny, the blankets thin, and air conditioning was an unimaginable luxury.

Trying to sleep on that narrow sofa in sweltering July heat, without any ventilation, was basically akin to sleeping on the street—minus the noise, perhaps.

Even a disciplined Sword Shaman would find those conditions brutal.

"You see?" Bokue continued smoothly when Yukina didn't answer. "The bed's wide enough. I'll take the left side, you take the right—fair and square."

"Ah…" Yukina hesitated, then sighed softly, finally relenting with shy resignation. "Fine… But Senpai, absolutely no funny business tonight, okay…?"
