Chapter 7: Reckless behavior
Will
After walking through the institution, we soon arrived at the student council room.
Sona seemed to want to ask me a few questions, a short interview in her words that could speed up the enrollment process a little.
Her assistant served us both a cup of tea and gave us some cookies while we talked.
"So, what would you like to know, my dear?" Sona almost immediately spit out her tea and looked at me nervously once again with her glasses messed up.

However, she made no comment about it.
"Excuse me, we are used to receiving foreign students who have different habits... but here it is not very common to speak that way." her assistant politely pointed out. I just nodded and smiled, agreeing.
"I know." Sona regained her composure, pulled out some papers, and made some brief notes. She seemed to be doing her job of labeling me as a problem student.
And from the way the pencil moved, she had a lot to complain about in the last few minutes and wanted to do everything she could to make sure I never set foot in the institution again.
So sweet, but so rude!
She then handed me a basic form, which I quickly filled out.
"We hadn't talked about this before, but where exactly are you from? What is your country of origin?" She asked superficially, as a matter of protocol, without any real interest in the question.
I just pointed to the sheet, and for some reason her eyes widened in panic. She coughed fiercely, almost convulsing, and forced a smile, then quickly erased her notes with the eraser, whatever she wrote about me would easily pass as discrimination.
"It's a very beautiful country, I've heard many good things about it." I agreed once again. "I hope to live up to the reputation of my people."

"Yes, you do..." She agreed with a slightly gloomy expression of someone who was going to have to put up with a lot without getting anything in return. The last thing she wanted was to have a scandal like this because of her.
Cultural differences existed, and my origins were very distant from hers, so obviously there were going to be minor annoyances.
"By the way, your hair, is that dye?" I said yes. But then she seemed to have another topic to talk about, seeing as she was still taking notes, and they seemed rather rude given the weight of her pencil and the hidden disgust in her gaze.
"You know, Kuoh has some dress code rules, and we don't allow students to use so many products for their appearance. Like makeup, hair dye, accessories, and colored lenses." I looked a little confused at that statement; she seemed very serious about it.
Even slightly hostile...
Oh yes, I have white hair and red eyes now...
"Unless, of course, you lied and it's not dye..." Her eyes seemed to have searched for signs that it was dyed, such as dark roots, and found none. She suspected it was some kind of mystical species...
Or I could just be a reckless delinquent once again... sigh... everyone sees me like that lately.
I sighed again.
"Sorry, you're right, I lied..." Her eyebrow furrowed and I could feel my danger sensor ready to beep, but with an amused and friendly look, I continued.
"I usually say I dye my hair, but in fact I have a rare disease. An extremely rare type of albinism that greatly weakens my health and affects my appearance." She stammered again, her face slightly twisted.
"W-what d-did you say?" I continued my explanation.
"I don't want people to think I'm a fragile and sick person, so I lied. Since it's natural, it shouldn't be a problem, right?" She quickly nodded yes.
"Yes, of course, you're absolutely right, no problem! No problem at all!" The paper in her hand was torn into a thousand pieces and quickly thrown into the trash. From the look on her face, she wanted to swallow that paper right then and there or even set fire to the trash can.

"So, are you willing to accept me, as a student at Kuoh?" She nodded warmly with renewed humor.
"I believe you would be a fantastic addition to our student body! Kuoh is very eager to welcome you and will welcome you with open arms!"

I laughed happily for a few moments, but I doubt she has that much authority.
She just didn't want to embarrass herself even more...
"I'm glad to hear that. Actually, I ended up staying longer than I should have at the institution, and I imagine it's too late to return to my accommodations in another city that's quite far away." I pointed to the sky through the window, and it was indeed getting quite dark, especially for an ordinary student.
Sona quickly sensed the direction of the conversation.
"Indeed, it's a bit late to travel. If you have money, I can recommend some good hotels in the area." I searched my pockets and soon placed some change on the table, to take a bus perhaps, maybe even, it would be enough.
But for a hotel...
She was about to say something, but I interrupted her.
"If there's a pawn shop open, I could sell this jade token, it must be worth something after all." I pointed to the token and Sona immediately examined it from a distance, but her interest increased sharply.
"Do you mind if I take a closer look? I know a little about jewelry." I allowed it, and she immediately began to turn the stone over, viewing it from many angles with a complex expression. "It's not just beautiful, if that's what you think, it's a very old relic, apparently. If it's original, it should be worth a good amount..."
"If you find the right buyer, I'm sure you'll get a lot of money..." I liked the news, but she seemed to be hiding something. "I know someone who might be interested, but it will take a while to call him. A few days at least..."
"Well, since that was the answer, I imagine any pawn shop will be closed or will try to cheat me, right?" She agreed. "It would be nice to do business with someone I can trust. If you can call him, I'd be grateful."
"But that still doesn't solve my current problem, unfortunately." I sighed, but her expression seemed to have changed again.
"I can't turn a blind eye to the case since I'm the one who's responsible for keeping you here for so long, especially considering that you'll soon be one of the students I'm responsible for."
"As long as it's not a problem for you, I'm willing to let you spend the night at my residence." This time, I was the one who was surprised.

Her assistant also seemed confused by the turn of events and despite Sona's embarrassed look, she seemed to be trying to suppress her emotions.
"I think we've reversed roles. Shouldn't I be the one asking if it's not a bother?"
My days are getting strange... imagine if my Christian mother finds out that one day I spend the night with fallen angels and the next with devils.
