Chapter 926: Boilogical fields theory
This would have been the perfect time for a Vlog detailing his thoughts and theories, but he still felt there was something amiss. He couldn't point his finger as to what exactly would confirm his theories and allow him to further his research, in fact, he was not sure about anything anymore. Fortunately to him, he wasn't the only one focusing on the issue as both Luna and Medusa were also pondering the same matters each with a different perspective.
"If you want to go fast, you travel alone. But if you want to go far, you go with your friends," He muttered to himself before setting up his smartphone to record and placing it on a table. "this is Uriel's Sage private Vlog and today we will be discussing a groundbreaking theory that might change the way we perceive this world."
"Shouldn't we be... I don't know, finding a way to escape this hellhole?" Medusa scoffed, blissfully unaware that her newfound attitude would be recorded for posterity.
"I concur." Luna nodded.
"I'm not going to lie to you, this is going to be dangerous, but if we play our cards right, we might be onto the biggest discovery of human history." Uriel shook his head.
"If you want to study past civilizations is fine, but didn't you hear Luna? If she says we're doomed, then we're doomed. If we don't find a way to escape we will become a part of one of those lost and forgotten civilizations you love so much. If you want to put your neck on the line, be my guest, but I'm not going to lift a finger to save this city filled with assholes." Medusa said with a glare much similar to Uriel's.
"That is my point." Uriel nodded prompting Luna to check his pulse and temperature in record time.
"You do not seem to have a fever, but you are certainly out of your mind. My diagnose is that you're either a shapeshifter or remain under the effect of a curse. There is no other way you would be willing to risk your life to save this megacity." Luna declared with absolute confidence.
"Not that. I'd rather have the innocent people survive, but you are correct that I wouldn't risk my life for them," He said, also blissfully unaware that people would ever watch the recording in the future. "if you think about it, the only reason civilization has made it so far is thanks to people who had been willing to go beyond their limits and explore the world around them. Think of Marie Curie who at the risk of her own safety investigated radiation, earning herself a short lifespan because of that. If it wasn't for her, such technology as the MRI which is used in medicine would have never been developed."
"Uriel," Medusa smiled a mischievous toothy smile. "you're up to something aren't you?"
"The ultimate theory that will unify our research, the answer to all questions."
"An unified theory about what exactly?" Luna's interest was piqued to the point where if she had been in her lycanthrope form she would have aggressively wagged her tail.
"So far we've discovered that dungeons are both repositories for knowledge that is granted to humans who dare break into them which is the source of the basic technologies needed to rebuild a civilization from scratch; and they're also a prison to creatures of unfathomable power."
"Agreed." Medusa nodded.
"Now, think of what is going on here. Everything points to the fact that gods are present in this city and they manipulate people into performing tasks. This may be a way for them to handpick the people who are more apt to be possessed by them."
"That would make sense. When I found Mister Sandman he seemed surprised that I could see him, but also happy. I think he caused people who fell asleep to be incapable of waking up in order to find people with the ability to have lucid dreams. If we extrapolate that with Medusa's experience, we could be able to identify the god involved in each case by finding out what traits do they consider to be desirable." Luna nodded.
"Hang on, that may be the case, but it doesn't actually answer the question. The real question is, how can they be here and not be here at the same time." Medusa said with a pensive fingertip on her lips.
"And that is where your expertise will come in handy. We know that gods are sentient, biological and can manipulate energy. We also know that humans can become gods, but other species can too, so what makes them different." Uriel sat on a chair with a frustrate sigh, which Medusa took as a chance to shamelessly sit on his lap.
"Maybe they aren't different at all. I've been giving a lot of thought about the possession phenomenon for a while and there's a few odd things. An object cannot exist in the same physical place as another object, that is based both in observation and common sense which would lead us to believe that no matter what, one entity cannot be inside another."
"They could be microorganism or coexist at a microscopic level with their host, in other words: parasites." Luna rebuked, to which Uriel shortly replied.
"Don't let Nika hear you say that."
"That is not the case and you know it. All of our research even with top tier technology has been inconclusive about that topic and I think I may know the answer. While objects cannot coexist in the same physical space, that is not the case always. Particles can overlap, be in two places at the same time. In fact, their existence is better explained with a probabilistic approach rather than a quantitative one. More so, it's been theorized that all electrons may as well be a single omnipresent electron."
"Is this related to felines in some way?" Luna asked.
"I believe she's referring to Schrödinger paradox."
"Not really, I'm talking about something different. If I remember correctly, Professor Fermi was looking into the supposed similitude of an EMP field and cryptid FOD and it is apparently what led to the eventual development of their so called 'ultimate weapon'."
"Sure." Uriel waved his hands in a forward motion for Medusa to speed up her speech as it was becoming uncomfortable to have her sitting on his lap, especially after Luna decided to follow on her example and do the same.
"What if a cryptid's Field of disruption is actually the cryptid themselves? What if we, hunters, are the same? Think of our flux energy, how we can channel it outward, what happens when our bodies are breached with foreign flux, our perception of space changes when we rank up and we can detect subtle changes in the flux around us and not just that, we also become capable of altering our surroundings to a further extent. Now gods, they're here but they're not here, that doesn't make sense, right? Unless, their fields are so unfathomably large that they can't express themselves in the physical realm without the help of an anchor. In other words, they're fields." Medusa finished her sentence and abruptly stood up followed also by Luna and then Uriel.
"Biological fields." They said in unison.
As though replying to them, a slow clap drew near and the dark figure of a pale woman dressed in black walked towards them.
"You are correct, gods are indeed biological fields and I'm impressed such young kids could figure it out." The woman said followed by an astonished pause and then all three hunters lunging forward to capture her.
"Hold on, she's with us," Jon also walked in. "she's sister Marianne, a vatican's envoy and apparently, she's also Nika's friend."
"These are the kids you mentioned?" Marianne smiled kindly at the disgruntled bunch of hunters.
"We're holding a private meeting." Uriel grunted.
"So much for the discovery of human history, it was already solved." Medusa went back to her past moodiness and grabbed the chair for herself right before Uriel sat down. It was only thanks to his heavenly rank reflexes that he managed to avoid falling on the ground, but that didn't make him less annoyed.
"Elaborate." Luna said.
"Don't get discouraged in your curiosity, I was just stating what the Vatican knows to be a fact. Gods cannot be seen, only their chosen can be. But that doesn't mean they can't affect our lives and that is precisely why I'm here." Marianne said.
"The Vatican sent her to prepare for the upcoming event," Jon explained, but it showed he didn't know anything about it. "they're using cryptids to prevent regular citizens from dying, but us hunters are on our own. If one of those cryptids was to infest one of us, they could evolve into their more dangerous variants."
"So that is why people are chanting adorcisms all over the city." Uriel nodded knowingly.
"You knew?" Gasped Marianne.
"Told you the kid is smart, perhaps he can help you with your little problem," Jon nudged on the shy looking nun. Before turning to leave, Jon looked back and smiled at Uriel. "the old weasel says you've been relieved of your duties as steward of the city, try and make it out alive will you? Your mom is going to kick my bloody ass if something happens to you."
