Chapter 902: We need to talk about Uriel Part 2

"I did not know weasels had this kind of power." Said Luna as she jotted down a new line of research in her notepad.

"It's not actually a weasel, just a human that behaves like one." Jon scoffed at the same time the illusion of an infinite library gave place to an actual library.

"Bravo," The slow clap of Mister Xavier Scofield's footsteps resounded in the library as he neared the many hunters, all of whom had some sort of relationship with Uriel. "you finally figured it our and it took you what? A week?"

"If this is a practical joke I'm beating the hell out of you." Jon growled.

"And what if it isn't?" Mister Scofield rose an eyebrow.

"Then we'll kill you." Sam cracked his knuckles as he made his wings appear from out of thin air.

"Silence in the library." Gertrude scoffed causing even Jon hunter to be paralyzed not in fear, but in utter horror. Not feeling her presence could have been easily explained by her being a regular human, but not just anyone would dare speak like that to hunters which meant there had to be something else about her.

"You brought us into a trap." Jon accused Scofield in a hushed voice and the former librarian and general of the army replied in kind.

"It is not a trap, you may call it a neutral place. We can talk, but should anyone turn violent they won't live to regret their decision."

"There's always a nasty trick with you, old weasel." Jon scoffed.

"Why are you doing this? I thought you were Uriel's friend." Medusa said, holding up a tear.

"It is precisely because I am his friend that I brought you all here. Somehow he became the target of every single god out there, you being around him also turned you into a target. I started investigating and found out what you already suspect, that the new librarian is actually a god herself. I think she can explain the rest, but you will have to be patient." Mister Scofield explained as he looked at his wristwatch.

Everyone looked at the seemingly harmless librarian that always gave them a chill in the spine and watched as she performed her duties and not a minute before 5PM did she collect her purse and clock out.

"I do not address personal matters during work hours," She answered the question that lingered in the faces of those present. "and I'm the god of fate."

"My wife came looking for you." Jon gasped.

"I know, and she's the one who caused all this. She came and helped you in your trials, but she did more than that. She also informed the other gods this megacity was safe for gods and now they're here." Gertrude said in a displeased voice, though that was her usual tone and no one noticed a difference.

"Is Uriel safe?" Asked Luna, but instead of replying Gertrude grabbed an old projector from the library and struggled to set it up for two full minutes until Medusa couldn't take it anymore and respectfully helped her. What followed was Gertrude struggling with her smartphone, she adjusted her glasses more than a few times and tapped on the wrong place on several occasions until she eventually managed to display the tournament on the screen.

She showed a recap of Uriel's fights specifically and they saw him starting the tournament completely healthy and confident, then slowly declining into his current state.

"We have to help him!" Medusa cried, though when she saw Uriel smacking the wife in front of everyone she changed her mind. "or we can put him out of his misery."

"Be serious, you are now in front of a divine being." Mister Scofield scolded in the same gently voice he used while he was in charge of the library.

"I care little for manners, I'm only driven by duty." Gertrude said.

"The kid does look like he needs a hand." Said Jon to which Scofield promptly replied.

"I know him very well and I can tell with absolute certainty that he doesn't, at least not in what you may think."

"At this point, nothing can stop him from winning the tournament." Said Gertrude.

"If the goddess of fate says so, then we can relax." Said Sharp, who still had no clue why she had been summoned by Mister Scofield to talk about someone whom she didn't even like.

"You are too young and naive if you think dying is the worst that can happen to a human being." Gertrude scoffed.

"Whom the gods want to destroy, they first drive mad." Mister Scofield added.

"There you go again, citing useless Greek proverbs like you're wise when you're nothing but a... a..." Jon couldn't finish his sentence as he felt completely powerless. He knew little about the gods and their powers, but he understood that if the goddess of fate said nothing could stop Uriel from winning it was the truth. What he didn't understand is why something that should be considered good was talked about as if it was the worst case scenario.

"Do not be mistaken, I do not know his future. I seemed to have made a mistake and overlooked him completely until it was too late and now his possibilities are infinite, and that is something I don't like. It is also something I cannot fix." Getrude looked troubled the same as if she misplaced her wallet inside her purse while making the line for the chasier at a supermarket.

"In other words, he's lost his way in the world and I summoned you here to help you find it. She can't see his fate, but he can see ours. I figured that if I brought people who are connected to him in some way we would have a picture of what the best scenario looks like." Scofield said and Luna added.

"I see, you subtracted us from Uriel's side as an experiment to see if anything changed, but it didn't."

"That is correct, young lady," Said Scofield now embarrassed to have mistaken her s a lost child when he first met her. "Who's first?"

"Me, I need to return to perform my duty as the head of the Cryptid hunting agency as soon as possible. Lives depend on it." Sharp said.

"While I approve of your sense of duty, I can assure you they do not." Gertrude scoffed as if that was her only way to communicate with mortals, but she also extended her hand to Sharp causing the content displayed on the projection to change from the most popular streaming hub to pictures that depicted Sharp's relationship with Uriel.

"That's meaningless, she really isn't close with Uriel at all." Said Medusa both relieved and worried.

"Your turn." Said Gertrude after snapping her fingers and sending Sharp back to her office with her space distortion skill.

When Medusa touched the hand of the goddess of fate, the pictures that showed up were much more meaningful, but only to Medusa. It showed how she met with Uriel and the things that happened, it was a short story that was cut sometime a short time after they became hunters.

"This makes no sense..." Pondered Gertrude and Luna interjected. "I am the goddess of fate, the one responsible for finding the greatest hero of the time. My job used to be easy, men of great bravery and honor were a dime a dozen, but now with so many people it is virtually impossible to find a man worthy of my power."

"No offense taken." Jon said as he extended his hand towards the goddess of fate.

"Yes, yes... you are a powerful man, but your lacking morals make good material for the god of something menial." Gertrude scoffed.

"A secondary character if you will." Scofield let out a chuckle.

"Him." She pointed towards Sam and he pointed at himself in turn.

"Me? Why me?" Sam said with a dumbfounded look.

"As I understand things, this is as clear as it gets. Mister Scofield noticed something was wrong with Uriel and asked the goddess of fate to see if there was a way to set him straight, but she realized she did not know him which led her to believe that she may have missed on the opportunity to back up the greatest hero of our time. Am I correct?"

"You are." A wildly surprised Gertrude said without a scoff this time.

"Well, you are wrong. Just because he achieved great things doesn't make him hero material which you can tell by just looking how he behaved before becoming a hunter. He's just an average orphan who came from the slums and was given a gift. You, on the other hand, you're the son of the former governor of the city, the heir to a millennia old legacy, supposed son of an angel and you were handsome before you came into power. Your motivation was lewd, but that is not uncommon between heroes of mythology."

"You are spot on, young lady." Scofield burst out into a compliment for Luna.

"But if I'm correct, then..." She fell silent and everyone waited for Sam to grab Gertrude's hand.

Sam reluctantly walked towards Gertrude and hesitantly neared his hand, but right as he was about to pull it away she extended hers and grabbed him at a speed that surpassed even his Celerity skill.

"Let's see what we have here." Gertrude's eyes brimmed with power and for some odd reason, Sam's eyes did too until a bright flash of light enveloped the library.
