Chapter 879: The soul doctor Part 2
The group followed Luna across the ship forming a line like ducklings, but she did not go to the medical bay like they expected. Instead, she took the most convoluted path through the ship's corridors, then maintenance system and eventually made it through some ducts not even Medusa who built the ship with her own two hands knew existed. The group's curiosity soon shifted into one of worry and Uriel was the first to voice his concerns.
"Do you think she's taking us to the freezer where she stored her body?"
"I don't think that's the case, but I wouldn't be surprised if she has him tied to a medical bed to experiment on him." Nika shivered at the memory of the same being done to her.
"What kind of experiments?" Bella stuttered.
"Come on guys, Luna may be a bit callous, cold, curious and has all the personality traits that would fit a mad scientist, but she's Luna." Medusa countered.
"And that is what worries me the most." Uriel said, earning himself nods of approval from everyone but Medusa, though even she had to admit that Luna being Luna was probably one of the most terrifying thinks she could think of.
There was a place in nature for everything, preys and predators followed their instinct and played their part in the food chain. The same thing applied to human and cryptids alike, but Luna had a spot of her own from where she studied things and it was utterly terrifying for anyone to find themselves as the topic of interest for Luna.
"We're here." Luna said as she pulled a dirty blanket that revealed a still unconscious Soulfire wearing a clinical robe. Needless to say, he was dirty and had an unkempt like he was a castaway for months, but for some odd reason that did not take anything from his beauty. If anything, it gave him a more manly look which increased his appeal.
"Ten, absolutely a ten." Nika said.
"Yes." Luna nodded pointedly.
"May I ask why did you bring him here of all places?" Medusa asked.
"And why did you bring us here." Bella said, trying to hide her fright. For one, she did not like closed spaces that would not let her fly away and to make things worse she also did not know how did she got there or how to return.
"I, uhm..."
"Luna, what kind of experimentation did you make with him?" Nika asked Luna with a rarely seen serious attitude. She had noticed Luna falling prey to her instincts more often lately and she was worried she might have crossed some lines that should not be crossed.
"Nothing, I brought him to my safe place because it was easier than keeping Miss Dragonfang away from him. It didn't matter how many times I tried to get her to stay away, she always said how difficult it was for a woman on her thirties to find a partner and that I was getting in the way of love. Also, I did not bring you here, you followed me here and now I'll have to find a new safe place," She made Luna's equivalent to a pout, which was a stone face. "but now that we're all here we should wake him up."
"No, no way we're waking him up in this condition. It's inhumane! We need to take him to the medical bay, the one reserved for our VIP patients and the fact that you kept him in this... nest of sorts will be our secret." Uriel said and everyone silently agreed to take the secret to their graves, mostly because it would be embarrassing to say out loud that they needed to protect one patient from being harassed by basically kidnapping him.
"That is so nice of you... no, let me rephrase it," Nika corrected herself. "that is too nice coming from you."
"Fine, I want to charge him for the stay, but if he wakes up like this he might even sue me." Uriel was not afraid of cryptids, death, the unknown, uncertainties, unexplainable phenomena, absurd cosmic entities and many other things that would paralyze other people out of fear. But lawyers, those gave him nightmares.
After taking Soulfire to a proper bed and getting him back to shape, it was time to wake him up. Though just as Luna mentioned, Miss Dragonfang somehow knew Soulfire was back at the medical bay and rushed in to see him shouting nonsense about true love and wanting to give him a bath. if not for Uriel threatening her with telling her father, Mister Scofield, she might have even turned violent just to see Soulfire naked.
"Bella, do you think you can wake him up?" Luna asked.
"I don't think he's cursed, but I could still try to kiss him."
"Like you would feel anything." Uriel laughed, until she looked at him.
"Then why don't you do it? It would be my first kiss." Bella said in a completely serious fashion that made Uriel regret joking.
"I sort of knew it was not a curse, but I expected a witch would know magic," She said, disappointed that she would not get to see something she couldn't explain with science. "thankfully, we have atropine and epinephrine to help."
The moment she finished speaking Luna sorted through many different vials on a cabinet, some she placed back, others she put in her pocket and the rest went into a syringe that was jabbed directly into the stupidly handsome man's heart. The cocktail, if it may be called as such instead of a random concoction seemingly devised to kill a horse, worked a miracle that seemed exactly like magic.
Luna's medical experience with hunters had allowed her to accurately gauge their resistance to medicine which came along with several implications. The first being that she did experiment with her patients, though more than experimenting it could be called practice. The second and even more worrying, was that she could have woken Soulfire up at any given time and yet she decided not to do it and keep it stored away.
"Uriel, hi! Nika, hi! Luna! Medusa, you too! Who's this pretty lady? Hi!" Soulfire stood upright the moment the medicine kicked in and started greeting people with hugs and kisses on the cheek and if Bella ever regretted having a wind barrier at some point in her life, this was definitely the most regretful she had been.
Soulfire moved from side to side at a caffeinated speed touching every vial and looking at everything. He ran in circles and for some reason he even started doing exercise which left everyone astonished.
"Is this normal?" Uriel asked.
"No clue." Luna replied.
"Should I stop him?" Uriel hesitantly asked.
"Don't you dare!" Was heard in unison, though it was unclear for Uriel who participated in the chorus.
It was only after ten minutes that Soulfire's heart rate stabilized and he was finally able to compose himself. He was red in exhaustion as during his rampage he worked out as much as he could and lifted anything that looked heavy to use as weights, which unfortunately also included Uriel.
"Is there no way I can ever get rid of you?" Uriel grunted in annoyance.
"Sorry about that, I got a bit carried away." Soulfire apologized.
"Here's the medical bill, also, we need help..."
"Sure, no problem. By the way, what time is it? I had an appointment with a friend." Soulfire asked.
"I'm afraid you missed your appointment... by a couple months." Uriel said and Luna butted in to explain.
"Apparently, you suffered from extreme flux deprivation due to abusing your trait. Your body was completely fine, which is why you did not die, but the same can not be said about your flux energy. I sped up your recovery with acupuncture..."
"Which you will see on the bill right here." Uriel showed Soulfire the long list of expenses.
"This helped to let the atmospheric flux energy to sip inside your body. It was a slow process and there's a detailed journal on your ailment's evolution, but I'm afraid I can't show it to you because it could be considered a company secret. However, you may be glad to hear that you are in good health and don't even need bed rest. I really wanted to let you rest and see if you would wake up on your own, mostly to prevent any side effects and the risks that waking up someone in a comma conveys."
"Then why did you decide to wake me up now of all times?" Soulfire asked, distraught for losing two months of his life.
"We need your help." Uriel said.
"I refuse." Soulfire replied shortly.
"But friends help each other..." Uriel shamelessly said which brought Soulfire to a conclusion.
"Alright, but since friends help each other I'll need a hand with something. I need you to bring me to my home in New Texas as fast as you can. Many lives count on that."
"You heard that, Bella. Full speed ahead!" Uriel commanded.
