Chapter 876: Cursed Part 2

The smell of ozone and a scorch on the ground told the tale of the power of nature, just as the dire wounds Uriel received after getting struck by the lightning. The wounds on his body branched out like roots and the smell of burning flesh was so strong all the hybrids aboard the ship rushed in as they knew someone had gotten hurt, or that dinner was ready.

Whichever the case, it was an emergency for Luna and she was the first to arrive at the scene managing to carry him inside the ship seconds before a second lightning struck the exact same place. It was an oddity most people would have missed, but a lightning striking twice on the same spot without a lightning rod was something statistically improbable.

"He needs medical attention." Luna said as she handed Uriel to Miss Dragonfang who rushed him to the medical bay.

"What's going on? Why are you not following?" Asked medusa the moment she saw Luna standing up in front of the door staring at the ground in silence.

"Wait for it," Said Luna and as if on cue, another lightning struck the ground. "we are under attack." she informed so nobody else attempted to exit the ship.

A doctor's duty was bound to their patient, but the first step in medical care was to understand the circumstances and prevent others from getting hurt, including the doctor. Also, understanding the cause of the wounds was just as important, because it could change the correct treatment according to the circumstances.

In this case in particular, Luna wanted to confirm whether or not there was a flux signature attached to the lightnings and thanks to the landing bay being open and witnessing two of the three lightning strikes she now knew it wasn't the case.

However, had it stopped at the second lightning Luna would have believed it to be a coincidence or due to an external factor. Now, however, she knew it was deliberate which meant there had to be a sentient being behind the attack.

Encompassed by the sounds of the alarms ringing, Miss Dragonfang had reached the medical bed where she quickly placed Uriel. She was just about to start CPR, or at least her perverted version of it, when Nika showed up and cut that moment short.

"What are you doing?"

"CPR?" She asked, though she sounded apologetic.

"Wait for your turn, I'll go first." Nika rubbed her hands together, but before she actually managed to do it Luna showed up.

"What are you doing?"

"I was about to kiss him and see if he woke up." Nika shrugged, knowing Luna explaining a fairy tail story was more likely to work than a lame medical excuse.

"Miss Dragonfang, you're needed on the bridge for take off procedures," Luna said to Lizzy, then turned to Nika. "that won't work, it only works on curses."

"Did someone say curse!? Is my baby cursed!?" Dana showed up showing signs of extreme anxiety.

"Nika, keep her off while I work." Luna closed the curtain and did not ponder for a second that what she asked of Nika was nothing less than getting in the way of the goddess of death and her son.

Uriel's wounds were severe and while applying some Serum would have likely helped with the regeneration process, due to that substance's unknown origin it was left as a last resort only. Instead, she went with the regular treatment safe for one thing. Uriel did not need CPR or an electric discharge to restart his heart because he actually did not possess one and the place where the vital organ should have occupied was instead reserved for a flux orb.

Luna would have liked to take the chance to study Uriel, but medical treatment came first and she limited herself to only do what was needed to help his body recover. From scraping the burnt parts, to applying ointment and bandages while also administering fluids for safe measure. She worked efficiently as though the person in the table was not her best friend in the world or maybe even crush, but rather a slab of meat that needed to be worked on.

This capacity to completely detach herself from her emotions while working was actually the hardest thing for her to learn while training to become a medic. Contrary to what people may have thought due to her inability to convey her emotions, Luna was actually a very sensitive person who also happened to have issues controlling herself. But although her hunting career may have seemed to be short, she was an experienced veteran not because of the time she had spent in the battlefield but due to the many experiences packed in such a short time that forced her to mature.

"This is my last warning, step off or I'll make make you." Dana threatened without much hope of Nika budging, but despite being brave enough to stand her ground against anyone or anything to protect her friends, Nika was not stupid. She knew Dana meant to harm to Uriel and the only thing Luna wanted to protect was the secret that lied in Uriel's chest.

"How is he? What happened to him?" Dana begged the doctor for an answer in the same manner any mother would.

"He will be fine and just needs rest. He is likely in a lot of pain, but thankfully he's unconscious."

"Who's unconscious?" Uriel coughed.

"Son! Son! Are you Okay?" Jon stumbled into the medical bay trashing the place around in his wake.

"Get that fucking drunk out of here." Dana grunted, yet no one moved. Jon was never a mean drunk, but he did have issues controlling his strength when intoxicated. Left with no other choice, Dana grabbed Jon by the collar and hurled him outside by the window.

"Interesting, that is the same thing I would have done if I was tall enough to reach him." Luna mused to herself.

"How are you feeling? What happened?" Dana insisted.

"I don't know, I was just about to exit the ship when a lightning took me down. Next thing I knew I was walking through a wheat field with some music in the background... I think it was Enya." Uriel pondered out loud.

"That's the Elyssium! You died for a second!" Dana became pale as a ghost.

"Something is bothering me..." Luna tried hard to think about what was that nagging feeling in the back of her head, but she eventually gave up and just continued. "does that mean you will have to reap him?"

"Of course not, I would only do that if the time comes and he has no chance to survive." Dana said the most obvious thing, but Luna persisted on her curiosity.

"Then what exactly do you mean by reaping someone? If Uriel was dead for a short time, but then was able to return... It does not make sense."

"You said it yourself. Death is a place of no return where people's souls go after they die. Or that is what it is supposed to be. In reality, the concept of death is something changing forever. What I mean by reaping someone is to take their soul with me and take them to a place where pain does not exist where they would remain until the end of times." Dana's explanation didn't make much sense to Luna, but she shifted her curiosity to the strange phenomenon that caused a lightning to strike at Uriel.

"Do you think it is possible that this was caused by a curse?" Luna asked, inwardly hoping Dana would say yes in order to conduct some 'scientific experimentation' with Uriel.

"Why are you asking me? I'm not a doctor," Dana grunted, then remembered she was a god and continued. "but it is highly unlikely. Only angels and gods can do such thing... also witches, some cryptids... fine, curses are really common, I'll admit it. But anything related with lightning is a major deal, it is not considered the strongest element just because it looks cool. What you're seeing right now is most likely the effect of a natural phenomenon."

"Unlikely, three times a lightning fell on the same place, also, when you threw Jon outside the window he wasn't struck by lightning." Luna explained her reasoning.

"Shit! I forgot we were flying!" Dana became pale when she realized she just threw her husband out the window in the middle of a crisis caused by an unidentified external factor.

"So, that is what was bothering me." Luna nodded.

"Forget that, I don't want to become a widow!"

Nika used shadowblink to inform Phlox that they needed to land, but the moment she looked around from the bridge she realized something thanks to the interest in the clouds she gained after meeting Alfaro, the late meteorologist.

"Those ain't cumulonimbus, it's just not possible that any lightning came from those clouds!" She then moved back to share her findings.
