Chapter 858: The Olympeon Part 1

Despite the emotions weighing heavy in her heart, Dana knew her duty as the god of death could not be postponed anymore. Spending some time with mortals was not forbidden by any means as many gods liked to have flings with them from time to time, but her choosing to start a family and actually staying was considered taboo and if that was bad, allowing Jon to live past his time was an actual crime against nature itself.

Thanks to Jon who managed to convince Magellan to take them to a certain dungeon, Dana was able to lead them to a place where no mortal had ever stepped in. From the distance it looked like a generic Greek building, though the closer the zeppelin came to the building the more its grandiosity and size was revealed.

"Is this really the Olympeon...." Jon stuttered as the sight of a building impossible to even conceive even with modern building techniques, let alone ancient technology, stood in front of him.

"Yup," Dana nodded dismissing Jon's curiosity, then stopped Magellan from setting foot out the ship. "sorry, you're not allowed. Only holy rank hunters and above."

The word 'above' turned Magellan's shock into disbelief and while he pondered on whether or not he should pay heed to what Dana said Jon casually walked by him pressing his shoulder with a hand.

"Sorry pal, maybe next time." Jon smirked pretending he wasn't scared at what he would find inside that building.

There were no doors or windows, it was just a marbled building of an impossible size and proportions seemingly open for everyone to just walk in, but just as Dana mentioned only holy beings were allowed in the consecrated grounds of the Olympus.

Jon being a holy rank hunter was the only reason why Dana was able to take him along, but even she didn't know if he would be able to actually enter the building devised for gods and gods only. She grabbed her husband's hand leading him to the entrance and she pressed it tightly before crossing the threshold.

Jon felt the pressure of the veil stronger than ever, but was still able to cross the membrane that kept the world of men separated from that of the gods. From the outside the building seemed to be empty, but once inside he saw all manner of creatures inhabiting the place.

"Long time no see, Thanatos!" A fat man lifted a celebratory wine cup, but Dana ignored him and pulled Jon to walk faster.

"He seemed nice." Jon looked back at the bountiful dinner set up in front of the fat man, the ancient looking jars of wine and the beautiful company surrounding him.

"Don't look back, that's Bacchus." Dana muttered.

"The god of wine!? I have a feeling he and I would get along nicely." Jon chuckled, yet he noticed the sense of urgency on his wife's face.

"He's a goof sometimes, but can turn violent for no reason at all. He's also one of the strongest gods in here and the last one you want to anger."

"What about her? She seems nice too." Jon pointed at a woman who could not be anybody else but Aphrodite herself.

"You really do have a death wish, don't you?" Dana glared at her husband.

"He has your eyes, you know." Jon shifted the topic so smoothly even the god of death couldn't hold a chuckle.

"Try to behave and remain silent no matter what you hear, everyone here is either your enemy or doesn't care about your species as a whole." Dana's warning finally seemed to put the literal fear of god into Jon, especially when he noticed there were many creatures that didn't resemble humans at all. It brought him to understand that Uriel's theory was correct and there had to be an advanced civilization before humans and also that apparently they had their own gods that somehow survived. With just a few words Dana managed to do something she had been wanting to do even before marrying him, which was to get Jon to shut up.

With Jon understanding the situation, Dana was able to lead him through the crowded building right to the foot of a throne where a man that had to be Zeus sat. His looks were a complete contradiction between the power of youth and the wisdom that came with age, though his huge frame and muscular appearance made it clear he was more of a warrior than a scholar.

At the foot of the throne stood an anthropomorphic creature possessing an exoskeleton that emulated muscles and a flat head that resembled a crab. Despite its inhumane appearance, though, it was evident it was upset.

"I cannot wait a thousand years, this matter needs to be addressed this century!" Arausio, the self proclaimed god of water and life shouted to a very disinterested Zeus.

"And what would you have me do? Chase a mortal around with my lightning?" Zeus said mockingly causing a burst of laughter in the room.

"Are you really going to let a mortal man disrespect me!? If these were the old times, I would have drowned them with a tsunami and kill hundreds until they turned him in." Arausio stomped his foot.

"Oh, but these are not the old times and we can't just show up on their doorstep. Their walls are so tall not even we can see what's going on inside. I won't stop you if you want to take a peek inside one of their cities, but I'm not risking any more gods neither to help or to destroy humanity."

"I could do it," Dana butted in. "in fact, that is why I'm here."

"Is that a human? How kind of you to bring a meal." Zeus stood up to greet Dana, though Jon assumed he was in danger and prepared to fight.

"Give it your best shot, pal." Jon said in a fighting stance Zeus found endearing.

"He's just joking," Dana gave Jon a godly nudge on the ribs that caused him more pain than he wanted to admit. "he's actually my lover and one of the reasons I'm here."

"I heard all about it and there is no need to worry about it, in fact, none of us care too much about the natural order of things. Not with titans out there." Zeus eased Dana's worries with a kind smile.

"So it really happened, titans are out of the Tartarus."

"It was bound to happen someday. Now all we can do is for our heroes to rise up to the challenge and see who's worth keeping. Is he also your emissary?" Zeus asked with curiosity. Jon didn't look like much, but Zeus admired his previous display of courage.

"I was here first, you can't just ignore me!" Arausio butted in. Dana glared at him with murderous intent, but fighting inside the Olympeon was a crime no matter the circumstances. It was an absolute rule and the exact reason why so many gods had taken refuge in that place.

"What got you so cranky?" Dana asked, knowing full well it was Uriel the one who upset him.

"I found a funny place near the ocean and got to communicate with those critters you call humans. Some of them even agreed to become my emissaries! Do you know how difficult it is for me to communicate with that species? Because of how different they look to me, they always assume I'm a monster. It was a shame those who wanted to take in my power couldn't take it and ended up dying."

"You can always try again." Zeus tried to calm Arausio as he was starting to get flustered again.

"I can't! All because of that disrespectful minion! He defiled my body by walking on it and then it bit me!" Arausio shivered at the thought of what happened during his fight with Uriel and couldn't help but shake off imaginary humans crawling over its exoskeleton.

"Come on! There's no way he bit you!" Dana was outraged and couldn't stand the blatant lie, but something about the way Jon looked at her opened her to the possibility that she may be wrong. And she actually was wrong, since Uriel had indeed bitten Arausio in his desperate attempt to find a weak spot.

"And that's not even the worst part, that thing did something to me... something I had never experienced in my life. That human needs to be handed to me as a sacrifice!"

"No way, humans don't do that anymore." Dana rebuked.

"Actually, there's been some souls coming up lately. It's not much, but it's something." Zeus corrected Dana.

"If my demand is not met, I will wipe out city after city until I get what is owed to me within the century."

"Of course, my lord crab. I speak on behalf of humans and I shall see it happen, within the century." Jon said with a cunning smile Arausio failed to recognize and the ancient deity retreated back into the busy hall of the Olympeon satisfied.
