Dungeon Raider System

Chapter 838: Preparations for the race

By the time the Dungeon Raiders arrived at the conference, Professor friendrikssen had already explained the guidelines of the artifact hunt that was about to take place. He had also explained how the difficulty rates assigned to each dungeon had been decided, yet Uriel arrived right on time to hear the warning that no matter the difficulty a dungeon was classified into it was actually impossible to know what they would find inside.

"Surprises are to be expected." Friedrikssen laughed in a friendly manner, though standing at the podium in a huge auditorium Uriel finally saw him as the eminence in his field he actually was. Before that he seemed like a friendly old man with a taste for making small chat whenever it was possible, but despite his friendly demeanor he was actually a well respected figure in the field of archaeology as proven by the sacred silence in the auditorium.

Hunters and regular humans alike listened to his ever word like gospel, though it could be argued that they were worried they could miss something that could make the difference between life or death.

Uriel wasn't much bothered by missing the speech as he wasn't the novice hunter he once was. Now he knew more or less what to expect from dungeons and he also had the advantage of the system. To say that an artifact hunt with clear locations and maps was the perfect opportunity to him would be accurate if not for the fact that he would be forced to cooperate with the Mapple corporation.

"Don't worry, I'm one of the organizers of this event. I didn't know the reason what the motive behind it was at the time, but at least I know the rules and regulations." Medusa tapped her head to reassure Uriel.

"Rules and regulations? I'm allergic to those two words."

"Are you allergic to fun too? Because you look like you have a stick up your ass." Nika laughed, probably because the beer she had a few minutes ago.

"Let's just leave and worry about that later." Uriel grunted.

"Actually, there are a few things we need to do first. Each zeppelin needs to have a team from our security division on board to ensure everyone follows the rules. Also, we need to file the form ESB 10930 to declare our ship's specs, the HPA 3392 so we're assigned dungeons according to our level and the ship's manifest too, all in triplicate."

"On it, Boss!" Nika made a sloppy military salute looking tipsy which made Uriel suspect she didn't have just one beer that day. Especially when she disappeared into his shadow only to reappear from the same shadow almost instantly earning herself a scolding glare from Uriel.

"I will find us a security division team." Medusa nodded before making her way through the crowd leaving Uriel alone with Luna.

"I will... uhm..." She fumbled while looking at a vending machine.

"Fine, do your thing. I'll go back to the ship and let the others know we're now technically Mapple corp. employees." Uriel grumbled as he walked outside the building.

The moment Uriel stepped inside the ship he was met with Phlox wielding a wrench, Kristina a steel kitchen knife sharp enough to take down a beast level cryptid in a single slash and Miss Dragonfang, for some odd reason Uriel couldn't fathom, pointed a wet mop towards him.

Needless to say, instead of threatened Uriel was annoyed.

"Look, I know you thought the ship would be seized by the Mapple corporation and I appreciate the fact that you decided to stay despite that, but the only one who could put up a fight in these circumstances is Bella."

"Sure, but she's also our engine so..." Miss Dragonfang shrugged relieved that the one who showed up was Uriel, but her relief was short lived as Uriel broke the news to her and the same applied to the rest of the crew.

Their morale took a hit when they went from a small corporation that survived against a god and was now standing its ground against one of the bigger, if not the biggest, corporations in the world to being absorbed by said company. Uriel tried to get it in their heads that as long as they remained together and worked towards their own goals things would be the same, but him being unconvinced didn't help.

"Who left this junk in the hangar? They're blocking our way." A male voice resounded form the outside.

"It's not junk, it's our ship." Replied Nika who at that moment was performing a close up inspection of the hull to fill up the form. She was familiar with that type of documents, but it still took a long time to note all the particulars of the Pegasus, especially the hull damage.

"That thing can fly!?" The voice broke into laughter which didn't sit well with Nika.

"Look, you piece of... Magellan!?" Nika recognized the acclaimed explorer, though not due to his fame but because of the past they shared together.

"Look at that... after hearing you were kicked out I never thought I'd see you again. That ship doesn't surprise me, though." A woman standing by the side of Magellan snickered making Nika feel embarrassed for the first time in years.

She had climbed her way up the Mapple corporation ladder faster than anyone else, but that didn't mean she went straight to the top. There were more than a few things she did she was not proud of and burying them in the past was difficult when her past companions showed up in front of her.

"Do you want to join us?" Magellan asked trying not to sound too excited, yet he still tried to make his point by pointing at his top of the line ship with two front engines and four back propellers. It was small when compared to the Pegasus, but it held an aerodynamic disposition that hinted it reached top speeds.

"As if," Nika let out exaggeratedly then continued with a smirk. "this might be junk, but look at its size. It's every girl's wet dream."

"Whatever, just move that hideous thing out of our way." Magellan said as he stormed off towards his ship.
