Dumped By My Husband, I Became A Billionaire Heiress

Chapter 21: Chapter 21

"What's wrong?" He said again, an astounding look on his face.

"Hello. Hello!" He took a look at the phone, expecting something to happen, which didn't, and he tried to stand, but Lizzy came to his rescue when he was about to crash down the bed.

"Dad, what happened?" She couldn't understand what happened to him and what happened over the phone with Mia and Elena.

"Hey, dad are you okay?" she said, sounding so concerned about what happened.

A call came in again, from Mia, and she hesitated, especially because she didn't know what conspired within the seconds of conversation with Markus.

"Hi." She watched how her father still fidgeted, trying to recover from the shock.

"Uhmm. Hi, I think we have a problem." She said, her voice sounding worried and concerned.

"Where's mum?" That was the only question she had on her mind.

"When she was talking with your father, I went upstairs to change my clothes for not more than five minutes. Then I heard a cry."

"Then?" She asked again, standing and going round the room, Sophia trying to calm her down and her father still calm, staring at space.

"I left what I was doing immediately and ran downstairs, and I met…"

"Tell me, who did you meet?" She was screaming now, disgusted at the fact that Mia could not tell her what happened immediately.

"I met... Lu.. Lucas."

"Wait, what?"

"Lucas. He was there, downstairs. He was strangling her and dragging her body outside."

"Where is mum?" She kept shouting, repeating the words as she grew more restless.

"Well, I'm sorry. When I tried to help her out, he brought out a gun. He took her away."

"Wait. Again?" She asked, tears dropping from her eyes effortlessly as she looked at her father, who somehow knew everything right from the beginning, because he heard everything that happened via the phone call.

"Dad, mum is in trouble again." She cried out, knowing that her dad knew about it already.

"And this time, we know who is holding her." She said, with a touch of revenge in her heart as she thought about Lucas, someone she considered a snake.

"How do we find him?" Sophia said, who had been silent for a while.

"I really don't know. Mia doesn't know how they can find her either." She wanted to sit on the chair, but she decided to stand, especially because there was no time to rest. Her mother's life was in danger again, and she can't comprehend the fact that Elena would not remain the same, due to the traumatic events she had been through in less than a week.

"I have to go home now." It has been such an eventful day for Lizzy since morning, and it was 3 pm. She needed to leave to see the situation at home.

"I totally understand. Please, be safe." He said, feeling better, but still very worried about his wife. He didn't believe that he did not get to see her before she got missing again.

Turning to Sophia, she remembered how she didn't know she had a sister twenty four hours ago. For less than three hours that they've been together, she had felt a sense of deep connection to her, something she wished she had with someone.

"Sophia, please take care of Dad." Her dad, who was really scared of her, didn't complain when he heard her say it. The monster who he was running away from would now take care of him.

"I will. Please, take care." She touched her arm, shaking it reassuringly, and all Lizzy wanted was a big hug from her.

"Alright, bye." She hurried away, leaving the hospital which had continued their normal activities like nothing happened a few hours ago.

She drove home like she was going through a nightmare, expecting herself to snap out or wake up from it and continue life. The car raced very fast, but her heart raced faster than the car. Lucas, the name sounded like the poison in a snake. She remembered all the memories she had with him, which led to a conclusion that something went off about him. She fell in love with him, but right now, all she could feel was resentment.

Running back home her phone buzzed again, a strange number flashing her in the eyes as she managed to take the phone while speeding.

Everything is not as it seems. Tread carefully.

Seeing the text stare back at her, she gripped the steering wheel much tighter, holding it with all she got, her bracelet also feeling warm against her wrist. This brought back memories of everything, from Sophia's appearance to other things that happened in the hospital, and they spinned in her head, while she was trying to snap out and focus on the road.

As she got closer to her house, something seemed wrong. Everywhere looked disturbed, it looked so scattered, disorganized. There were footprints, drag marks and symbols of something beyond mere kidnap or abduction but violence.

She saw Mia sitting on the footsteps, her face a pure canvas of terror. When she saw Lizzy, she stood up and went to meet her, her hands trembling.

"What happened?" She wanted to hear it from her mouth and understand everything she said word for word.

"Lucas took her away," her mouth was shaking as she kept talking. "But what happened was beyond just taking her. It's about another thing."

Being confused again, she touched her bracelet which was still hot on her skin. "What do you mean?"

Mia's eyes looked around as if she would see someone who was listening. "You know that Lucas isn't who you think he is, right? He has been trying to do this for a long time."

She left her and walked into the house, seeing everything looking rough and ransacked. It was as if the house was scattered methodically, like the person was looking for a specific item. Picture frames were removed, drawers pulled out, books scattered.

"What the hell was he looking for?" Lizzy asked, going to the balcony to see further damages.

When she got back to the living room, Mia gave her a piece of paper, a photograph, but not just any kind of photograph. It showed Elena, who was much younger and standing in the midst of a group of people. She could see immediately that their eyes looked weird. Not the human kind of strange, but something else entirely.

"Your mother I'm afraid she was part of something," Mia said. "A thing that began before she thought of giving birth to you."

Immediately she said that, there was a movement that caught Lizzy's eye. A very quick and precise shadow close to the kitchen..

But just before she could react or tell Mia, another message popped in, from the same unknown number.

"They're watching."

"Don't trust what you see."

Again, the shadow moved, and this time, Lizzy caught a little glimpse of the person. She believed it wasn't human, but something or someone mechanical. Something that moved with an impossible kind of speed.

"Mia," she said, very convinced. "We're not alone."

But when she turned to meet Mia's face, she was gone, like she never came or existed.

"What is happening?" She held her head, preventing it from spinning and having thoughts flying around.

The house started breathing, walls started shifting, and most importantly, perspectives began to change. Somehow, the photograph in her hands began to shake, turning into an actual figure from the picture, and it only made Lizzy speechless to the point of terror.

The younger Elena looked at her, turning her head to the side, still maintaining eye contact. Then, the house went dark.

When she finally came back to the world, as if in a trance, she was no longer in her home, rather, a beautiful white vast place surrounded her. There were no boundaries or edges, but just whiteness. Then, she recognized a figure at the center, someone who looked like Lucas.

But this was not the Lucas she knew. This person looked alien yet completely familiar.

This version looked both familiar and completely alien. Mechanical parts integrated with human flesh. Eyes that shifted colors. Movements that suggested he was calculating every millisecond.

"Welcome," he said. "We've been waiting."

Before Lizzy could respond, the bracelet on her hand burst into light. Symbols emerged to something powerful, something ancient which connected her to something far beyond human understanding.

Lucas has a smirk on his face, something she is used to seeing. "The inheritance begins."

Lizzy's last thought before everything changed was a single, terrifying realization: This was just the beginning of things to come.

"What inheritance are you talking about?" She managed to ask. "And where is my mum?" She looked around but couldn't see any trace of her mum.

"Forget about your mum. There is something I want to tell you." He said, being so controlling like he used to be.

"What do you want to say?" She was eager to let the words out of his mouth. "And where am I?" She decided to ask that question, being scared yet curious.

"You don't need to know," he said again, the smirk increasing to a grin.

"And who are you to dictate to me what I should know and what I shouldn't?" She asked again, knowing that it was not the right time to say all of these, but she needed to put him in his place.

"You're still being stubborn." His smile disappeared instantly, like it wasn't there. "What if I told you that there is a lot to the little Sophia did in the hospital?"

"I know already. Do you want to tell me something new?" She knew there was a lot, and she only knew a quarter of it, but she wouldn't seem weak in his presence. She needs to be a strong woman for everyone, including her family.

"Okay, since you know everything, I'll have to leave you here."

"Wait." Lucas stayed still, and Lizzy went towards him. "What is it that I need to know?" She asked, swallowing all the pride she had.

She woke up, surprised, horror filled her body. Was she dreaming? Yes, she was. She stood up to check where she was. Still in her family house, she found out it was still the same, scattered, and ransacked.

"Hey, are you okay?" Mia ran towards her when she found out she was awake.

"Is it okay to ask what happened?" She didn't know anything that happened, and as usual, she needed answers.

"When we were talking, you slumped. I was so scared that I called your dad."

That answered the question. She was unconscious and probably in a trance.

"Then, he gave the phone to a woman… your sister…" She sounded so confused. With everything she knew about Lizzy's family, she was shocked about Sophia.

"Okay." Maybe it was just a terrible nightmare she had about Lucas, maybe not. They needed to do something about finding her mum again, and going all over this again and again was frustrating for her.

"Are you crying? I'm so sorry." Mia saw tears in her eyes and instantly felt sorry for her. She had been through a whole lot of things in just less than one week. She didn't want to be in that position at all.

"I'm so sorry." She hugged her and that was just what Lizzy wanted. She melted in her embrace, sobbing immediately and staying there for some minutes. Mia made her feel better and she was grateful that she was there, even though she also felt no one should see her in her vulnerable state.

"Do you feel better now?" Of course she did feel better.

"Yes, I do. Thank you so much." She was genuinely grateful.

Then a call came, she couldn't believe the name that popped out as the phone buzzed.

"Lucas, where is my mum?"
