Dumped By My Husband, I Became A Billionaire Heiress

Chapter 18: Chapter 18

How did this come about? She met the living room in great condition before she showed Mia her room and drifted off to dreamland. She heard footsteps now, slow, intentional footsteps behind her and she froze for a while, not knowing whether to turn back or stay that way.

She wanted to know who had been making her heart beat abnormally, so she took a slow turn, hoping it wasn't someone she would not know.

"Mum?" she was flabbergasted to see her after three days, but more astonishing was her despicable state.

"Lizzy." she said, her voice sounding just the way she looked, she then fell, while Lizzy tried to hold her, preventing her from falling and getting her to a chair.

"Mum, are you okay?" She heard quick footsteps from the staircase, which she believed to be Mia, looking with fear in her eyes.

"Wow. Is she okay?" she ran to the chair Lizzy placed her on, trying to assist.

"Lizzy, I'm fine. I just need some rest." a disturbing silence followed, filled with Lizzy's thoughts, Mia's worry and Elena's snores, as she didn't waste time going to the land of fantasy.

"What may have happened to her?"

"I don't know. I saw her here." She was amazed due to the fact that she met her there, even when she was sure she locked the door and all doors were secured. Gazing at the room, she was still terrified, her heart racing like she was in a race.

By 7am, she could not wait for her mum anymore, as she wanted to see her father immediately to tell him the latest news. She needed someone to take care of her and she felt she could ask Mia to stay with her and compensate her with some money for her time and efforts because that was the least she could do.

"Could you take care of Mum for me, please? I need to take care of my dad." she finally asked after being adamant about it.

"It's cool, no problem." She knew she would have to stay with her when she saw Lizzy preparing to go out and she assumed it was her father.

Lizzy turned on the ignition and zoomed off, thinking about seeing the expression on her father's face when she told him about her mother. Before leaving, she thought about texting Caleb about her, but remembering what happened yesterday gave her a change of mind.

A stab in the back would have been better than the indescribable way she felt, and she was ready to hide the way she felt about him because she was with the enemy now. She felt like a fool for falling in love with people who did not love her, people like Lucas and now Caleb.

Those thoughts made the journey shorter and in no time, she was parked at the same place she made a scene yesterday. Coming out of the car, she decided not to make eye contact with anyone as she was still embarrassed, so she held her head high and walked like a model, a little faster, into the hospital and straight to her father's room.

"Dad, I have news…." She paused, looking at someone who almost cost her a sleepless night, Caleb, standing slowly as he saw her, reproach in his eyes as he walked slowly to her.

"Caleb, what are you doing here?"

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean for that to happen." He said, looking genuinely remorseful and still going towards her.

"That didn't answer my question. What are you still doing here?"

"Lizzy, please hear him out." Her dad pleaded with her and to her it seemed Caleb had won him over, probably because he didn't know what was happening.

"Dad, do you know what he did?" She said, being careful enough not to raise her voice as she remembered the hospital saga yesterday.

"I do. Please, listen to him."

"Dad, I have nothing to say to him." She was no longer going to have him cook some lies and serve her on a beautiful plate.

"Lizzy please," his voice came in again, being close enough to be a threat to her. "Please, give me a minute to explain."

"Your one minute starts now." She said, looking at her wrist watch dramatically and counting the one minute he has to talk.

"Okay, first of all, I want to say I am sorry."

"50 seconds more," she said again, not looking at him, her eyes still fixated on the wrist watch.

A long sigh followed, which she still believed was part of the one minute. He looked at her, looked back at Markus who mouthed an "I'm sorry" to him, looked back at her and made his way out of the room.

"Are you going just like that? Not even being a little remorseful and willing to still apologize?"

"What do you expect me to do when you are not listening?" She agreed with him. She was just being petty at this point and needed him to explain what happened yesterday in plain texts, without mixing words or lying.

"Okay. Go then." She said, moving close to her father as Caleb looked at her for one last time before leaving the room, fuming.

He knew he was at fault, but the way she behaved made him question things such as her fondness of him. Did she really like him? Because if she did, she would have at least listened to him.

He walked out of the hospital with only one thing in mind: to talk to the person who started this whole misunderstanding. She called him three times throughout the night, but he ignored them, talking to Markus instead and being worried about Lizzy.

He planned to wait for her until she came in order to apologize to her for hurting her. He knew nothing he would say would actually make sense to her, but he wanted to say it anyway.

She moved close to her dad, obviously hurt by hurting Caleb and just wanted to be alone and cry, just like she did in the middle of the night, before sleep decided to interrupt her sadness.

"Lizzy, are you okay?" She sure wasn't, but she had to be strong, especially now that her prayers had been answered.

"Yes dad, I am." Hoping to change the topic to a better one, she said. "Daddy, guess what," with the brightest grinning that made Markus smile.

"Your mum has been found." Markus said, not expecting anything like that, but that was his utmost desire.

"Well, thankfully, you guessed right. Mum is home." She said, spinning a little and mimicking a ballet dance, just the way her father loved it.

"Wait. Are you serious?" He stood up, trying to get balanced owing to a pain in his leg that just started that morning.

"Yes dad, I am." She squeaked as she hugged her daddy, so elated to bring the good news of finding the actual love of his life.

He didn't know how to react to this shocking news. He was so happy, but didn't know how to express it without shouting. His wife was back home! After three days of calamity in the house. He hugged her so tight that she protested after some seconds.

"I'm sorry I held you so tight, I couldn't help it."

"I understand, dad. She is back. I know how you feel." She gave him another hug and helped him back to bed.

"When am I going to be discharged? I want to set my eyes on my beautiful wife!" She found it amazing that old Elena was still beautiful to her father, and she longed for that kind of love.

"Very soon dad, let's just obey the rules of the doctors. Stay, take proper medications and get discharged when you're fully recovered."

She wanted to ask a question that also haunted her in her sleep.

"Dad, what exactly happened yesterday?" A lot of mysteries were tied around that question, and he hoped she wouldn't ask him anything like that at all. He couldn't bring himself to tell her what happened.

Truth be told, he remembered everything vividly, but he wanted to keep the details to himself and not cause havoc due to the fact that Lizzy's ears had been filled with things she wasn't supposed to know.

He was really astounded when he found out she already knew about her mother's child laundering business. Telling her about the last three minutes before he became unconscious was dangerous, as it could lead to rivalry between his daughter and someone she loved.

"I still don't remember," he said. He resolved that he would rather lie than tell her anything that happened.

"Okay dad." Disappointment was written all over her face because she expected him to remember at least a little, so that she would solve the puzzle of the bloodstained bracelet.

"But dad, I saw this in your room." She brought out the bracelet to show him and of course, he remembered it so much. It didn't take him too long to recognize the owner of the bracelet, but he had to be calm about it in order not to reveal anything."

"I saw this, and I know it's tied down to the person who hurt you." She was very sure, and even though it looked very familiar, she still didn't know the owner. It was somewhere hidden in her memory and she didn't want to stress.

But his face went pale as he kept staring at the bracelet, not wanting to say anything that would make him regret his actions. Lizzy studied his face and ultimately knew what he was doing. So she moved closer to him, looking at his eyes.

"Dad, who owns this?

It was written all over his face that he knew whose the bracelet was. He opened his mouth, but nothing came out, the room not helping matters by being silent, except the machines that monitored his heart condition and vital organs.

"Dad." Her patience was running out. "If you don't tell me who it was, I will do something we both will regret."

He exhaled, not knowing how to start what he wanted to say. It was too heavy for his mouth, but he managed to say it out. "It belongs to someone who we thought was long gone." His voice managed to be louder than a whisper.

She froze at that statement, her heart skipping again. "Dad, what do you mean? I don't understand." She said, making him realize from her voice that her patience had worn so thin.

Factually, he didn't know what to say to her. He looked to the door, expecting someone to barge into the door to interrupt this heated conversation they were having. But when no one came and he knew he was stuck, he opened his mouth. "It's your sister's."

Those words hit her like a car, having an accident. She never expected this because they always told her she was their only child.

"Her name is Sophia," there was sorrow in his eyes as he continued. "You were too young to realize you had a sister who disappeared."

Her knees felt so weak as she resolved to sit on the chair close to her dad's bed. "My sister? Disappeared? Are you sure you love me? If you do, why didn't you tell me all of these things?"

"We thought it was the best thing to do at that time," he said, with a broken voice. "You were just a child. You didn't know what was happening. Your mother… She was so broken by this, and we decided to make this a secret."

"But I don't understand. How is this related to the bracelet? If she was missing, why are you talking about her now?" It did n

ot make sense to her and she needed to understand.

Looking down, his hands trembling, he said: "She's not gone. Not just yet."
