Dueling life in a futuristic world

(7.1) Tryout duel Part 2

["End phase"] announces my duel disk.

["My turn, Draw"] The bot states.

["Standby phase, Main phase 1. Processing move......"]

...

...

...

...

Two minutes pass and the bot still hasn't made his play.

"Errrr, did I break it?" I doubt it, but I would have already called over the judge if this was a tournament.

Suddenly the bot seems to come back to life.

["I activate the spell card "Raigeki"] It declares

Spoiler

"I trigger the effect of Vortex by shuffling "Harmonizing Magician" top up in my Extra Deck to my deck. It negates Raigeki's effect." I rapidly respond to the spell card, finding it weird that the bot decided only to use that card now. I was overextending with no negates on board for the longest time, and he didn't do anything about it. Either it just drew it or it let me go through with my combo because he had another out and wanted me to waste resources. We'll see.

Spoiler

["Spell card negated... Processing... I set this monster in face-down defense position and end my turn..."]

...

...

What? Seriously what? The bot bricked? Why would you even allow it to brick if it's supposed to test people's decks!? Fine, let's end this.

[End phase, the effect of "Fusion Destiny" resolves, destroying Destiny Hero Phoenix Enforcer.] my duel disk shows this message, and DPE on the field breaks up into light particles.

Spoiler

"The effect of Destiny Hero Phoenix Enforcer triggers. When sent to the graveyard, it can bring back a Destiny Hero monster in the next Standby Phase." I report, inserting DPE's card into the card slot to send it to the graveyard.

"Draw phase, draw," I say while drawing a card.

'Astrograph Sorcerer. I can use that.'

"I activate the effect of "Destiny Hero - Dasher" from the graveyard. In the Draw phase, if I drew a monster, I can reveal dasher, and special summon the monster I drew. Come out, Astrograph Sorcerer!" A tall figure cloaked in a veil of stars materializes in front of me; it wields a thin brilliant staff and some kind of magical formation circles above its head.

Spoiler

["Standby Phase"]

"The effect of DPE resolves. I use it to special summon DPE back from the graveyard." I was getting tired of using its full name so I try to abbreviate it.

[ERROR: Please specify the full name of the card: DPE] Requests the duel disk.

"Destiny Hero - Phoenix Enforcer," I clarify.

'It doesn't have a problem with abbreviations as long as they contain a single word that's part of the card's name, but acronyms are different.'

No matter, as soon as I specified what card I meant, the disk immediately spat it out. So I placed it back on the dueling blade and proceeded with the duel.

["Main phase 1"]

"I activate the effect of "Destiny Hero - Celestial." As I have zero cards in hand, banishing it and "Destiny Hero - Dasher" from the graveyard allows me to draw two cards."

Spoiler

...

'HAHahahhahahaha, two more "Astrograph Sorcerers? Oh, just a little trolling then.' I had already stopped caring for hand traps; if it had any, I wouldn't have been able to do half my plays.

"I set Astrograph Sorcerer to my left Pendulum Zone." - A copy of the monster on the field rises through the pillar of light. - "Now I activate the Pendulum Effect of Astrograph, destroying it to replace it with "Stargazer Magician" from my deck. At the same time, I activate the effect of the other "Astrograph Sorcerer" in my hand, as a card effect just destroyed a card. I Special Summoning it to the field in attack position!" At this point, I already had enough attack to win this duel. But I kept going.

Spoiler

"I overlay the two level seven Astrograph Sorcerers in the field! OVERLAY!" The two Astrographs turned into two black spheres, then, a giant whirlpool of darkness opened in the sky. "XYZ Summon! Come out! Rank 7 Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon!" from the vortex, an explosion of darkness burst, and a monster exited. It was a dragon as tall as Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon but armored with crystals sporting the familiar red and blue eyes.

Spoiler

"Next, I will Pendulum Summon, return from the Extra Deck, Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer!" Like before, the monster came out of a portal created by the swinging pendulum. "For my last summon, I set "Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess," Link - 2, "Predaplant Verte Anaconda," and "Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer" as link arrows. LINK SUMMON. COME OUT, ACCESSCODE TALKER!" I yelled from the top of my lungs. This was the last time this duel that I would be able to do this, so I went all out. As the summoning animation concluded, what was left was a tall warrior with full white plate with gold accents armor and wielding a gigantic golden lance.

Spoiler

"Accesscode Talker's effect activates! It lets me target a link monster used for its summon and gains attack points equal to that monster's link-rating times 1000. I will target Apollousa! Making its attack a total of 6300!" As this duel is nearing the end, I question why I am explaining card effects to a bot. Then ignore it, as I'm having too much fun.

"I activate the other effect of Accesscode Talker. I can banish a link monster from the graveyard or field and destroy a card you control! I banish Crystron Halquifibrax to destroy your face-down monster card!" Accesscode readies his lance as lightning starts to emit from it. Then he points it at the projected face-down card, and a beam is cast from the lance destroying the card.

["Face down monster, "Ojama Green" destroyed."]

Spoiler

...

...

'Why is it running that? An Ojama deck? Or just an engine helper? Not sure, don't care now.'

"Battle Phase! Attack my monsters!" I learned this from the help program. To save time, you can declare an attack with multiple monsters. Technically, the monsters still attack one at a time; it's just a time saver.

["By activating the card "Battle Fader" I stop one of the attacks."]

Spoiler

Surprisingly the bot had a response and, as the first to attack would be Acesscode - I didn't specify the order for my monsters to attack, so the strongest monster goes first - this could lengthen this duel for a turn.

"I use Vortex Dragon's effect to negate battle fader." Unfortunately for the bot, I still left a negate on the field for these situations. So, after shuffling "Oafdragon Magician" to the deck, my attack continues.

Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon and Absolute Dragon spit beams of purple and dark energy respectively at the bot. Meanwhile, DPE punches the air with a flaming fist shooting a fireball, and last but not least, Accesscode charges at it with his lance.

'This whole duel was worth it just for this scene... If you ignore Verte.'

As the attacks close in on the bot, it offers. ["I surrender"]

This makes my duel disk ask. ["Your opponent is surrendering, accept?"]

"Yes." I accept the surrender, finding it weird that it doesn't do it automatically.

The monsters disappear and the tent's lights turn on again. I immediately regret accepting the offer, I wanted to see fireworks.

["Congratulations, Yuumi. You've won"] The voice from the bot now isn't the same synthesized one from before. No, this is a person.

["Yuumi, I've verified during this duel that you possess tuner monsters. Are you also capable of synchro summoning"] It asks.

"Errm, Yes," I state, scratching my head. 'Of course, I know how to. It's just addition.'

["Is there a moment during this duel I could roll back to that would permit you to demonstrate this ability?"] It requests.

"Sure, after my first Pendulum Summon," I reply.

The lights in the tent darken. In front of me emerge Harmonizing Magician, Double Iris Magician, and Perfomapal Pendulum Sorcerer.

'Let's just get this over with.'

"I tune Level 4 Double Iris Magician with Level 4 Harmonizing Magician. Synchro Summon!" - Double iris turns into four green orbs and Harmonizing into four green rings. - "Arise! Borreloud Savage Dragon!" The rings surround the orbs, and a light beam goes through them. From it emerges a mechanical dragon with wings made out of plasma.

Spoiler

As the summoning animation finishes, the lights in the tent turn back on. Then the voice starts speaking again.

["Well done, you've proved your ability. Grab this card and read it."] A card is dispensed from the terminal. I walk up to it and pick it up.

Written on it is: "The Director wishes to speak to you, please wait out the front of the tent. An agent working for the NWDA will come and fetch you. The agent will reveal the code "Tri - 5". DON'T FOLLOW ANYONE THAT DOESN'T TELL YOU THIS CODE."

'What am I getting myself into?'

I have also uploaded the replay of this duel. It has a few differences from what I wrote (Most obvious being the lack of opponent interaction) https://youtu.be/2X78B-2Q-Kw. This duel was more of a test of how I would write duels going forwards so not too complicated but still modern YGO. Hope you enjoyed it!
