"Looks like Fusion Academy's summoning standard really is pretty low."

"Did you say something, Luca?"

Luca had muttered it so softly—even seated just one spot away—Aisha hadn't caught her words, which were practically a declaration of war on the entire academy.

"Nothing, Aisha," Luca said with an angelic, innocent smile.

"Since Kevin's done summoning, I guess it's my turn."

Kevin hadn't even made it back to his seat before Luca stood confidently and walked toward the summoning circle.

Standing a full head shorter than Aisha, with a youthful face and high-pitched voice, Luca looked more like a doll-like little sister than a student their age.

But her steps radiated pure confidence.

As she passed Kevin in the aisle, she lowered her voice—just enough for him to hear—and dropped a bombshell.

"Watch closely. Your low-level summoning tricks only work here, in the weakest academy, among clueless amateurs."

"...Huh?"

Kevin immediately turned, frowning at her small, retreating figure.

"No... I must've misheard."

Suspicious, Kevin sat back beside Aisha.

"What's wrong, Kevin?"

"Something's off about Luca Slint."

"Off how?"

"I... can't explain."

If Kevin hadn't misheard, Luca had just insulted not only him—but the entire academy.

That completely contradicted her earlier introduction about transferring here because she admired Fusion Summoning.

Miles said, "Aisha, I agree—we should be careful."

"Even you think so, Miles-san..."

In truth, Miles had been wary of Luca for a while.

Her excuse of "admiring Fusion Summoning" was beyond flimsy.

A student from XYZ Academy—the top-ranked school known for Xyz Summoning, transferring here because she admired the weakest summoning method on the continent?

Maybe polite words in front of others, sure.

But actually transferring—and immediately seeking out Aisha—was suspicious.

Aisha might not be on guard, but Miles absolutely was.

Especially after hearing from the Pharaoh that the arrival of the Millennium Items had upset the world's balance between Light and Darkness. And Luca's gaze toward the Millennium Puzzle when they first met hadn't escaped him.

Miles suggested, "Let's just see what kind of monster she summons."

A Duelist's summoned monster often reflected their soul.

Irene's HEROes.

Or Aisha's endless lineup of—well—Mokey Mokey. Both were windows into their personalities.

If Luca looked sweet but was actually cunning... then her summon should reflect that.

"Good luck, transfer student."

"Don't be nervous."

"We're professionals. Even if you summon a tofu block, we won't laugh."

"Yeah, no matter how funny it is, we won't laugh."

Right. Totally believable. Everyone here had seen plenty of funny summons already.

"Miss Erin, I'm ready."

"Mhm. The summoning system here is the same as XYZ Academy's. You should know how it works. Go for it."

Even Miss Erin, who wasn't exactly the encouraging type, sounded somewhat expectant—perhaps viewing this as a chance to gauge the strength of XYZ Academy's first-years.

Stepping into the summoning circle, soft purple magic light flowed along Luca's slender legs, wrapped in white stockings, and into her small frame.

"Radiant light of the skies—shine with brilliant life! Monster Summon!"

Raising her arms, fingers spread wide, divine light sparkled between her palms and erupted above her.

Feather-like rays of light descended like angel wings.

[Queen Angel of Roses] Level 7│EARTH│Plant / Effect│ATK 2400

A beautiful angel with crimson rose-petal wings and flowing golden hair descended from the glow above Luca's head.

It was... jaw-dropping.

"What a gorgeous monster."

"So pretty... just like Luca herself."

"Wait, hold up... what kind of terrifying statline is that?!"

"Level 7, 2400 Attack... That's on par with Red-Eyes Black Dragon!"

"Can a monster that strong even be summoned in a normal Summoning Class?!"

For reference, Kevin had only summoned [Red-Eyes Black Dragon] under special conditions during the midterm exam's enhanced magic circle.

"Yeah... obviously. Full marks."

Miss Erin sighed, jotting a massive "10" next to Luca's name on the scoreboard.

Originally, this was supposed to be a simple test to gauge Xyz Academy's standards.

Regardless, if Luca represented their norm... then Fusion Academy was losing badly.

She could only hope this was a fluke.

Returning to her seat with a radiant smile, Luca casually twirled her newly summoned [Queen Angel of Roses] card between her fingers and waved it in front of Kevin.

"Well, Kevin. Looks like I won this little contest, huh?"

"I can't believe Kevin actually lost... in monster summoning of all things... Unbelievable."

Even Irene was shocked by Luca's performance.

If this was Luca's baseline for summoning, just how powerful was her Deck?

Miles thought, '...An angel? Did I misjudge her?'

Despite technically being a Plant-Type, the divine glow that accompanied [Queen Angel of Roses] was unmistakably real.

A truly wicked person rarely summoned something radiating holy light.

That was why the Dark Duelists always summoned Fiend-type monsters.

Unless... that person could even deceive themselves—fooling the Spirit Eyes connected directly to their soul.

"Looks like I'm Aisha's rival now. Time to give up the seat, Kevin."

Beneath her innocent, sweet smile... Luca hid a secret.

[Queen Angel of Roses]—a monster that embodied both Light... and Darkness.
