Dreams Comes True

Chapter 9: A HARSH REALITY

A Long-Awaited Return

Diana took a deep breath as she stepped out of the hospital. After a month of intensive treatment, she finally felt strong enough to walk on her own. Her body was still weak, but the hope inside her kept her going. However, one thought haunted her relentlessly: Why hasn't Dylan come to see me?

At first, she had understood. He might have been busy, or something urgent could have come up. But a week passed. Then two. Then three. And now, it had been an entire month. Not a single visit. Not a single message.

— Maybe he's sick… or going through a tough time, she murmured to herself, trying to push away the growing anxiety in her chest.

Determined to find out the truth, she headed toward Dylan's house.

---

A Cold Welcome

When she finally reached his house, she hesitated for a moment. The last time she had been here was before she was hospitalized. Taking a deep breath, she knocked softly on the door, her heart pounding.

After a few moments, the door swung open abruptly. But it wasn't Dylan. It was his father.

A tall, imposing man with hard features and an even colder gaze. The moment he saw her, his expression darkened.

— What are you doing here? he asked, his voice devoid of warmth.

Diana swallowed, feeling a strange sense of unease.

— Good evening, sir. I… I came to see Dylan. He hasn't contacted me in a month, and I wanted to check on him.

Dylan's father raised an eyebrow before a smirk of disdain appeared on his face.

— Dylan isn't here anymore.

The ground seemed to vanish beneath her feet.

— What? What do you mean?

The man crossed his arms, his gaze piercing like a dagger.

— Exactly what I said. Dylan is gone. And he's not coming back.

Diana blinked, confused.

— Gone… where?

— Far from here. Somewhere he doesn't have to waste time with a girl like you.

His words hit her like a slap.

— A girl… like me? she repeated, her voice trembling.

Dylan's father sighed in irritation.

— Yes. A girl like you. Poor, hopeless, nothing but a burden. Did you really think Dylan would spend his whole life looking after you? Playing hero? He finally realized he deserves better. He's moved on.

Diana felt something shatter inside her.

— No… that's not possible. Dylan would never do that… she murmured, her eyes brimming with tears.

The man chuckled coldly.

— You're so naive. He didn't even bother to tell you. Doesn't that tell you everything? He left a month ago, and you're only now coming to see him, thinking everything is fine. But he's already long gone, chasing a real future.

Diana took a shaky step back, shaking her head.

— No… he promised me…

— Promises mean nothing in this world. You should know that by now.

A painful silence settled between them. Diana's body trembled as she struggled to breathe. She wanted to scream, to demand answers, to beg for a different truth. But deep inside, something whispered that everything made sense.

— He… he could have at least said goodbye… she whispered.

Dylan's father shrugged.

— Maybe he didn't want to. Maybe he just didn't care.

Those words were the final blow. A tear slipped down Diana's cheek, then another. Without another word, she turned and ran, her heart shattering with every step.

---

A World Falling Apart

Diana wandered aimlessly, tears streaming down her face. Her feet carried her to the park where she and Dylan had spent so many days together. She sat on a bench, hugging herself as if trying to protect herself from an invisible pain.

— He's gone… without a word…

She replayed every moment they had shared, every time he had held her hand, every time he had told her he would always be there.

Had it all been a lie? A dream she had foolishly believed in?

With shaky hands, she pulled out her phone and opened her last conversation with Dylan. Her last message was over a month old.

"Dylan, I hope you're okay. I can't wait to see you."

No response.

A sob escaped her lips. A deep, hollow emptiness filled her chest.

— He's never coming back…

She placed a trembling hand over her heart, which ached so much it was hard to breathe.

At that moment, Diana realized her world had completely fallen apart.
