Dreamland: Freedom (Terror Infinity, Ultimate Evolution)

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Friday the 13th: Part 10

Rolling to the door, Eden lifted himself with his left hand as he shot Jason in the middle of the chest with his other, stopping the unkillable monster from attacking again.

Using that half second, Eden got back to his feet and ran away, but he did not even make it to the other end of the corridor when a large hand burst through the wall, trying to grab him. Eden was forced to awkwardly fall to the ground, knocking against the walls but dodging the deadly attack.

Only now did Eden understand the true terror of being chased by Jason. Until now, he always had been in control, controlling Jason's movements and fighting on his own grounds. However, now that the roles had been reversed, Eden felt this unique fear that came from being his prey.

He swallowed it back down though, as fear would do nothing to help him. Stumbling to the other end of the corridor, Eden did not find stairs, but instead a long corridor with many doors. Behind each door should be what used to be the rooms of either the kids or the counsellors.

Strangely, this corridor gave Eden a bad feeling. He could feel there was something strange, something amiss. He could not tell what exactly, but he did not have the time to think about it anyway.

He ran forward, only for Jason to burst out of one of the doors in front, nearly catching Eden, but the young man reacted with impressive speed as he not only did not stop but slid down too.

In response, Jason expressionlessly raised his foot, intending to stomp Eden, but the later shot Jason in the balls.

Whether Jason had genitals or not was debatable, but the whole area still burst into blood as Jason staggered back, allowing Eden to pass by him.

Ignoring the pain that came from sliding on solid wood, Eden reached Jason's back, but instead of running, he decided to shoot yet another bullet, this one at the base of Jason's spine, before swiping his legs, tripping Jason to the ground.

Although he doubted shooting his spine would really paralyse Jason, since the man seemed to no longer care about basic biology since his resurrection, but he did manage to earn himself a good few seconds, which he used to run.

But as he reached the end of the corridor, and took a turn to the right, he found himself in an identical corridor, with Jason back in front of him, still on the ground.

Stopping in his tracks, Eden a chill crawl up his spine as he looked back where he came from, and the corridor was still there, with Jason backing him this time.

Eden rapidly looked between the two, whose movements mirrored each other. Somehow, this corridor looped on itself. It should not be spacially possible, it was a straight corridor after all, meaning there was some magic at work.

Gritting his teeth at the unnatural events, Eden made a quick decision and slammed his shoulder into one of the many doors, forcing it open.

It led to a bedroom, as expected, but the expected window was not there. Eden was sure there should have been one though, he had seen them from outside, meaning there was more magical bullshit at work.

Jason had never shown anything even closely related to this, but he had somehow created a loop in space, with no apparent exits. This was a deadly trap, especially since the corridor was barely large enough to accommodate Jason. Without the stun effect of his gun, Eden would have no way of running past him.

But since Jason never showed this ability in the movies, it begged the question, where did it come from? Teleportation and resurrection, Eden could get behind, they were both shown, or at least hinted at for teleportation, in the movies.

So was Jason made stronger by Dreamland, or was some other unknown element messing with him? Although Dreamland had told him this mission world was Friday the 13th, that universe was shared with other horror movies, such as Nightmare on Elm Street.

Eden found it odd that something from another horror movie would interfere with his mission, but it still felt more believable than Dreamland giving Jason extra abilities. After all, with his freakish strength, vitality, teleportation and ability to resurrect, Jason was already a big enough menace to more than enough deserve Nightmare Difficulty, so why add in more?

Unfortunately, now was not the time to ponder these matters as while Eden kicked the door to the room open, Jason had risen, and was now moving in to attack Eden. However, the tight space of the corridor worked in Eden's favour as he made no effort to dodge the large swing of Jason's machete.

Indeed, the machete never reached Eden as it was stopped by the wall. Jason retrieved his machete with a neutral expression, but it still made Eden narrow his eyes, a flicker of understanding emerging in his mind as he retreated.

Using the loop to his advantage, Eden arrived in Jason's back, and shot him twice, once behind each knee. Eden had noted that Jason's knees had somehow recovered since he shot him earlier, but he was still forced to kneel as the strong Stopping Power behind the bullets once more shattered his kneecaps.

Where he had needed several bullets to do so before, he now only used one. Was it because Jason's knees had not completely healed, or was there something more?

In any case, with Jason on his knees, Eden shot two more bullets with pin point accuracy at Jason's right wrist, hitting the exact some spot both times, breaking his wrist and forcing Jason to drop his machete.

Eden did not know what caused this change in his accuracy, as this went beyond a mere increase in Agility, but he certainly welcomed this unexpected 100% accuracy, as it gave him the edge he needed over Jason.

As Jason tried to rise from the ground using his last uninjured limb, Eden dropped another flying kick, this time aimed at Jason's nape, right at the base of his skull. Jason did not even react, focused solely on rising from the ground.

Aided with his increased Agility and Strength from the 1911 and the Hockey Mask, Eden's foot struck right where he wanted, stunning Jason again, and more importantly, forcing him to move.

Something Eden had noticed was that Jason had not moved since he had entered the corridor, always staying in front of the door from which he had arrived. Part of it was because of the stun lock from Eden, but Jason still had some moments where he could have moved, yet he did not.

Since he hadn't, Eden guessed that the exit to this loop was the door from which Jason had arrived.

With Jason out of the way, Eden quickly reached for the door, while Jason tried to stop him. However, Eden was just slightly out of range, since Jason no longer had his machete, allowing Eden to enter the room.

And just as he expected, this room was not a closed cell, and had an opened door on the other end, on that led to the main hall of the building.

But as Eden rushed for the door, Jason suddenly appeared in the doorway, his machete back in his hand.

Moreover, this teleportation had been well-timed as with his current momentum, it was impossible for Eden to stop in time. Whether he knew it or not, Jason already had his machete raised for a deadly, unavoidable swipe.

Although annoyed at the straight up unfair teleportation ability of Jason, Eden did not succumb to panic. Trying to stop would only get him killed, so Eden decided to use it to his advantage instead. The world slowing down once again, just as it had back in the car, he lowered himself just enough to delay the landing of the attack just long enough for him to launch himself at Jason, tackling him.

This should not have been possible, as it required too fine a timing and movement to perform, but thanks to this strange ability of his to slow down his perception of time, Eden had managed it.

Eden felt like he had tackled a rock, but perhaps because of the many injuries to his knees, Eden actually managed to move Jason, toppling the giant through the wooden railing as the two flew off the first floor.

Jason landed with his back on a wooden table, crashing straight through it and stopping at the ground, while cushioning Eden's own fall. Despite this, Eden still felt his body be racked with pain from the landing.

Moreover, Jason looked unperturbed by the fall as he tried to grab Eden between his arms, and crush him to death. Since he was on top of him, Eden would not have the time to dodge.

Thankfully, Eden still had one bullet left in his 1911, which he shot into Jason's chin, stunning him. Ignoring the absurdity of a bullet to the chin being only good at stunning Jason, Eden looked around, and his gaze stopped at nearby fireplace. With a swift move, he grabbed one of the old fire pokers, and drove it through Jason's chest with a mighty cry, impaling him to the ground.

Jason looked up with turbid white eyes, first trying to grab Eden without minding the fire poker. Despite his strange physiology, the fire poker was impaled deep into the ground, and Jason made no effort to remove it.

Moreover, Eden had impaled him through the heart. Although Jason was still alive, that should still have weakened him even further. Even after several seconds of flailing around, trying to attack Eden, Jason continued to completely ignore the fire poker immobilizing him.

Were he to even try, Jason would probably manage to dislodge it, but it was like catching Eden was the only thing that mattered to Jason.

What had only been a guess, Eden was now sure of. The terrifying hunter Eden had first faced was gone, as his resurrection was only a weaker undead version of him. Not only was it more fragile, but it was also devoid of intellect.

Of course, he was still massively weaker compared to it, but were it not for the element of surprise, handling it would have been even easier than the first version of Jason he faced.

Stepping to the side, Eden first reloaded his 1911, before grabbing another fire poker. He slammed it into Jason's wrist, forcing him to drop his machete with a single blow.

Of course, being a zombie came with fair share of benefits. Not only had Jason gained the ability to teleport, but he also had a strange physiology that allowed him to ignore certain limits of the human body, such as walking around with shattered kneecaps, as well as advanced healing factor.

But the loss of intelligence still made it not worth it, in Eden's eyes. Jason used to be an intelligent killer, with an instinct for self-preservation. When he had been impaled on the metal fence, he had managed to free himself, for example.

Now, he was stopped by a mere fire poker, not because it was impossible to dislodge, but because Jason followed a single order: kill Eden.

But then, this begged the question, who was behind this order? Earlier, Eden might have thought that it was a lingering resentment within Jason's body, to hunt down his killer, but Eden refused to believe that Jason could be behind the complex space-loop trap. Hell, even the teleportations might not be Jason's power, but this mysterious entity's.

Still, there were good news: whoever, or whatever was granting Jason his powers, was not as strong as they seemed, and had their limits, meaning they too could be hunted.

Hunted, and killed.
