Dream a Nightmare

Chapter 49: Meeting Ghosts: Part 1

Dream tensely watched as the L'Manburg residents gathered.

He had to get their attention somehow. He couldn't place a sign, because he couldn't craft one, so he had to do something.

Being slightly corporeal really wasn't the best.

Casting around, he noticed an empty chair. Well, a stair block, not a real chair, but that was what they used.

Dream momentarily grew solemn as he thought, Of course. Eret. But there wasn't time for that. There was a real and immediate threat.

And whatever the reason for the extra stair, it gave him an opportunity.

Dream crouched and set his shoulder against the chair, pushing with all of his might. Slowly, slowly, it began to move.

Affecting things deliberately was difficult. When he had shoved the arrow, it had hardly been any work at all, just an instinctive shove. Nothing special, and certainly nothing difficult.

This was completely the opposite. Each inch was a struggle.

But it was working. Dream was slowly moving the chair block forward. One bit at a time, little by little.

And the chatter died off. Oh yes, they were watching now. If his theory was correct, then he was audible to people who had their attention on him.

Dream sat in the chair, and he looked back at them. Any way he considered it, this would not be an easy task. He had to first get them to trust him, which would be a monumental task under normal circumstances, and then he had to prepare them to take on Technoblade himself.

The only thing he wasn't sure of was whether or not they could see him. Though judging from the fact that they were just watching and not drawing weapons, they either couldn't see him or were too utterly terrified to react.

"So, I'm guessing you can hear me?" Dream said in a questioning tone. No response.

Of course. Because it couldn't be easy.

Dream sighed.

"Alright, I'm sure you're freaked out or whatever, but I'm trying to help."

That did something. Wilbur slowly stood up, stepping back from the table.

"Who are you?" he asked. Well, that was one good sign. He didn't have to try to convince them to trust Dream again, and there would be no confusion between him and Nightmare.

"A friend," Dream said simply. "I would say more if it mattered right now."

"I would say it does matter!" Tommy shouted, jumping up. "You just waltz in here invisible and act like-"

"Tommy."

Wilbur's tone was stern, like a parent's. A parent who was done dealing with their child's antics.

But that was something that Dream hadn't considered. He could very well just be an invisible player to them. He could be anyone. This was going to be difficult. Unless...

"You're all in danger," Dream said bluntly. There really was no time for intense social maneuvers trying to convince them to listen to him. Surely at least one of them would know the legends.

"And why is that?" Wilbur asked in a slightly patronizing tone. He was mediating? Oh, well. It was better than nothing.

"You have to be prepared for war," Dream said. "You can't survive like this."

"There are other forms of power than physical," Wilbur said. "The members of the Greater Dream SMP agreed to leave us alone."

"And there are other groups than the Greater Dream SMP," Dream retorted. "Other people. Just listen. If you don't prepare you won't stand a chance."

"Why should we believe you?" Tommy said again. Apparently he was done staying quiet. "What have you done for us?"

"We don't have time for this," Dream said through gritted teeth. He had forgotten just how annoying Tommy was to talk to. But Tommy was the reason he was here.

He had to save them... Somehow.

But what could he do if they weren't listening?

"You need to prepare for war. With your skill levels, there's no way you could survive," Dream said, forcing himself to speak calmly. Well, semi-calmly.

"War with who?" Wilbur asked. Oh, right. He hadn't told them yet, had he?

"Technoblade."
