Dragon God In The Douluo Continent

Chapter 6: Scales of Power, Seeds of Change

The sun had barely begun its descent when the courtyard of the Xie household burst into life.

Fresh spirit beast meat crackled on the grill. Chilled fruit nectar shimmered in crystal cups. Spirit flowers bloomed along the stone walls, swaying lazily in the golden breeze. At the head of the table sat Xie Tianyan, already halfway through a gourd of spirit wine, his face flushed and grinning.

Lan Xueyao wore a serene smile as she sliced skyberry fruit with gentle flicks of soul power, placing slivers before her son with quiet affection.

And in the heart of it all sat Xie Yulong—calm and unbothered, sipping plum juice as if he hadn't just broken the laws of cultivation less than an hour ago.

Suddenly, Xie Tianyan slapped the table, startling a few fruit flies into the air.

"Alright, little monster," he grinned. "You've got two spirit rings before most kids even learn how to breathe properly. Time to spill it—what do those shiny things do?"

Xie Yulong wiped his mouth with a napkin, utterly composed.

"Each of my spirit rings grants two abilities: one for elemental control and one for strength."

Tianyan blinked.

"Two? Not one per ring?"

"Nope. One ring, two abilities."

"...Is your Martial Soul cheating?" he asked, half-laughing and half-serious.

"Yes," Lan Xueyao replied flatly, before Yulong could.

The boy chuckled. Then, in a slow motion, he lifted his palm. A deep violet ring shimmered into view around his feet, its radiance subtle but sovereign. The courtyard floor rippled softly with soul resonance.

"First ring. Elemental aspect—Water Element Control."

He twitched his finger.

Mist curled through the air like trailing silk. Dew rose from the garden soil, spinning into elegant droplets. His mother's teacup steamed, then froze, splintered, and vaporized—cycling through all states of water in a breathless dance.

Xie Tianyan leaned forward, his eyes narrowing.

"That's not just water…"

"Any form," Xie Yulong said, his eyes glowing faintly. "Liquid, ice, vapor, mist… if it's born of water—I command it."

Even the humidity thickened, pulled toward him like threads drawn to a loom.

"This level of manipulation—Spirit Elders with three rings dream of it," Lan Xueyao murmured.

Xie Yulong nodded, then tapped his foot lightly. A ripple surged across his body.

With a soft hum, iridescent dragon scales erupted over his limbs and torso. Nine-colored, crystalline, and polished to a radiant sheen—they didn't just protect; they emanated quiet might.

"Strength aspect: Dragon God Immortal Body. Enhances everything—attack, speed, stamina, defense. All at once."

He shifted his stance.

The stone beneath his feet cracked with a muffled crunch. In a blink, he vanished and reappeared across the courtyard, wind trailing behind him.

"An all-rounded body enhancement…" Xie Tianyan muttered. "Top clans spend generations trying to figure out the soul ring configuration for something close to this…"

"And it's just his first ring," Lan Xueyao added softly.

Xie Yulong returned to the center and extended his hand again.

The second ring surged into view—deep violet once more, nearly black, matching the first in age and potency. Its aura rolled outward, hot and dense.

"Second ring. Elemental aspect—Flame Element Control."

With a subtle motion, fire spiraled into being—a lotus of layered flame hovering in the air. Crimson and gold, blue and white—each petal danced with a different hue of fire, all burning without consuming anything. (Different temperature)

Yet not a single blade of grass was touched.

"All flame," Yulong said. "If it burns, I control it."

Xie Tianyan let out a long breath.

"So we've raised a water and flame mage in one go."

Then came the last piece.

His dragon scales shimmered again—smoothing, polishing, sharpening. Like obsidian mirrors kissed by divine light, they pulsed once with dormant power.

"Strength aspect: Dragon God Overload Body."

"It triples my defense for a brief period. But more importantly—it absorbs energy from incoming attacks and injects it into my counterstrike."

He raised his palm.

A compressed arc of mistfire exploded outward, drilling clean through the stone wall at the edge of the courtyard. Steam hissed. Silence fell.

Xie Tianyan and Lan Xueyao stood frozen—unmoving, unbreathing.

Xie Yulong blinked, slightly concerned.

"Mom? Dad? Did you break?"

"Even your first ring is something third-ring cultivators pray for," Xie Tianyan finally croaked. "And your second ring is just… cheating."

Xie Yulong scratched the back of his head. If this is cheating… may I never get caught, he thought dryly.

The silence broke with soft laughter.

Lan Xueyao stepped forward and placed a hand on his shoulder—cool, steady… trembling just a little.

"Water and fire. Ice and flame. You've inherited both our domains."

She turned to Xie Tianyan.

"We can teach him."

"And we will," he said, his eyes alight. "Starting tomorrow, you're training with your old man every sunrise."

Xie Yulong raised an eyebrow.

"That sounds exhausting."

> "Exactly!"

Just then, Yulong remembered something.

> "Oh, right. Su Yuntao gave me this."

He handed over a sealed letter.

Xie Tianyan raised a brow as he opened it.

> "Let me guess. They tried to rope you into Spirit Hall?"

> "Of course. I declined."

> "Good boy."

Inside the envelope, golden ink shimmered across a Nuoding Academy recommendation.

Lan Xueyao looked at her son.

> "What do you think? Do you want to go?"

Xie Yulong gazed toward the horizon. Dusk light caught the shimmer of fading scales along his arms.

> "I want to know what normal feels like. Study with others. Make friends. Walk the same path—even if I take longer strides."

He smiled.

> "Even monsters need classmates."

Xie Tianyan burst into laughter.

> "Then Nuoding it is! But before that…"

He slammed a palm on the table.

> "One month. Fire and ice training. Dawn till dusk. No slacking!"

> "Spoken like a true sadist," Xie Yulong muttered.

> "Spoken like a father," Lan Xueyao added gently.

The sun dipped behind the clouds.

The courtyard dimmed into gold and quiet warmth.

And laughter rose again—soft, vibrant, unshaken.

Family.

Whole.

Together.

Xie Yulong looked up at the sky as his scales faded into flesh once more.

But in his eyes, two elements still burned.

> Two rings. Fire and water.

> Two steps forward.

> And this… was only the beginning.
