Dragon God In The Douluo Continent

Chapter 10: The Working Student with a Million Gold Coins

After wandering through Nuoding Academy's main courtyard for a short while, Xie Yulong finally located the dean's office on the first floor of the central school building. The plaque was modest, but the aura of quiet authority behind it was unmistakable—an invisible line dividing discipline and chaos.

He raised a hand and pushed the door open.

Inside sat a sixty-year-old man dressed in standard academic robes, his grey-streaked hair combed flat, his face wrinkled from years of dealing with dusty forms, disobedient students, and Spirit Hall bureaucracy. Two other teachers, both in their thirties, stood nearby—one fiddling with a spirit pen, the other arranging enrollment scrolls in thick stacks.

The room was quiet.

But the moment Xie Yulong stepped in, all three pairs of eyes shifted to him at once.

For a split second, silence lingered—not awkward, but curious.

This child didn't carry himself like the rest.

His black robes were made of woven shadow-thread, subtle but unmistakably luxurious. His snow white hair was tied simply, his posture relaxed but upright. Everything about him screamed calm confidence—refined but restrained.

"You're here to enrol?" Director Su asked, adjusting his reading spectacles.

Just as Xie Yulong opened his mouth to reply, a calm voice answered for him:

"He is."

The tone was light, almost casual—but it landed like thunder in a still pond.

Everyone froze.

There shouldn't have been anyone else in the room.

All three staff members turned their heads sharply toward the far corner of the office—only to find a man and a woman standing quietly in the shadows. They hadn't made a sound, hadn't stepped through the door… and yet, there they were.

The man stood with arms crossed, his crimson robes embroidered with faint draconic patterns that seemed to shift when one blinked. His presence was like smouldering magma—contained, but ready to erupt.

Beside him, the woman stood in silent poise. Her hair was pale as moonlight, her robe an elegant ice-blue with frosted embroidery curling along the sleeves. Her aura was quiet, but razor-sharp.

None of the teachers had sensed their arrival.

Which meant one thing.

They were strong—frighteningly strong.

Xie Yulong didn't even flinch. He turned naturally, as if this were the most ordinary thing in the world, and bowed respectfully.

"Director Su, these are my parents."

Director Su's lips parted slightly. He looked back at the pair with more careful eyes.

He couldn't sense their spirit power. At all.

But to an experienced soul master, that was the scariest thing. The inability to gauge was the gauge.

They stood like they were blended with nature.

Su straightened his robes hurriedly and gave a polite nod. "W-Welcome, honoured guests. Please—let us begin the registration."

He practically rushed to his desk, motioning for the assistant teachers to prepare the enrollment documents. The assistants moved quickly—but not without frequent, cautious glances toward the quiet couple in the corner.

Xie Yulong stepped forward and calmly provided his name, origin, and martial soul. One of the assistants took it down with slightly trembling hands.

Everything proceeded smoothly.

Until—

"I want to register as a working student," Xie Yulong said suddenly.

The quill in the assistant's hand snapped.

A full beat of silence passed.

Director Su lifted his head, blinking in disbelief.

"Working… student?"

Even the teachers beside him seemed stunned. They exchanged looks as if trying to make sense of a joke they weren't in on.

A working student?

The boy in front of them clearly came from a terrifyingly powerful background. Why would someone like that register as a working student?

Did the family go bankrupt this morning? Was this some test?

The reactions weren't just visible—they were loud in their silence.

Even Xie Tianyan raised an eyebrow. "Working student?" he repeated with mild surprise.

Lan Xueyao glanced at her son, half-tilting her head. "Yulong…?"

Their tones weren't disapproving—only confused.

But Xie Yulong simply smiled.

"I want to experience life."

Director Su's lips twitched slightly.

Lan Xueyao covered her mouth and turned away, fighting off a subtle laugh.

Xie Tianyan coughed once into his fist.

"…Very well," Director Su said at last, deciding not to press further. If even they didn't object, who was he to question it?

"Dormitory Seven," he added, marking it down with swift brush strokes. "It's on the southern wing, across the small garden. All working students are housed there."

Xie Yulong nodded, his smile deepening.

> 'Dorm Seven… That means I'll meet her soon. The little bunny.'

As the final form was signed and stamped, Xie Yulong turned and left the office.

His parents followed him out with unhurried steps.

Once they reached the corridor, Lan Xueyao lightly flicked her wrist, producing a small, silver-lined spatial ring and placing it in his palm.

"Your pocket money."

He peeked inside casually—then blinked.

> …A million gold coins?

His brow twitched, but he said nothing. At this point, it was just another Tuesday.

Xie Tianyan chuckled lightly. "We'll go shopping for a bit. Want to see if Nuoding has any decent teahouses."

Lan Xueyao leaned in and added softly, "Also, that Title Douluo we sensed earlier has been dealt with. He's no longer in the city—retreated to recover. You won't have to worry about him disturbing you."

Xie Yulong blinked, then gave a big grin.

>'Now I can completely let go.'

"Thanks," he said.

They nodded.

And then, without a flash or fanfare, the two turned and vanished down the corridor.

Xie Yulong stood still for a moment, hand still lightly gripping the storage ring.

Then he looked ahead.

The path toward Dorm Seven stretched like a gentle stream cutting through the academy. It wasn't grand or impressive—but it was peaceful.

His steps resumed, light and even.

> 'Now then… Time to see the legendary dorm 7.'
