Chapter 61: Dark Tower Draconic goblin guard
The goblin swung again, its rusted war axe cutting a wild arc through the air.
Devon narrowly sidestepped, sliding across the uneven stone floor. The axe slammed into a pillar behind him, cracking it and sending chunks of debris clattering to the ground.
"Okay, this one's pissed," he muttered. "And with the way it's going, it might bring this place down."
Drahon took his chance.
He dashed forward, his golden blade glowing faintly. He aimed low, slicing at the creature's unarmored ankle.
Slash!
A Sharp Precise hit.
The monster let out a roar of pain, stumbling sideways, but not falling. Instead, it turned on Drahon with a feral hiss, swinging the back end of the axe like a massive club.
Drahon blocked just in time, his sword catching the impact, but the force launched him backwards, skidding across the floor until he hit a half-broken wall.
"Ugh… strong bastard," he muttered, wincing.
But then the monster's profile flashed across their face:

The players had this in mind. They now saw that the monster was strong but not so much as they had first assumed, so they had a chance.
Ayvira moved next.
She raised her arm and then, a glowing spear materialized in her grip, made of condensed light.
She launched it with a sharp thrust of her arm...
Zwhhhhhhmm!
It shot through the air like a laser and struck the goblin in the shoulder. The blast didn't pierce entirely through, but it forced the monster to stagger.
The goblin turned to her, howling.
But Devon was already back in its blind spot.
He launched himself off a wall, some sort of half dragon speed and agility activated, and came crashing down with a spinning kick to the back of its head.
CRACK!
The goblin stumbled forward, dazed.
Drahon stood now, steady again.
He ran toward it, blade in both hands, then leapt, his Fire Dragon's essence faintly surging through his legs.
[Draconic Leap – Active!]
He came down hard…
THUUM!!
His blade stabbed deep into the goblin's shoulder, slicing through its armor like melted wax. So easily like the monster's skin was made of soft beans when in reality, it was thick at fuck!
The creature screeched, blood pouring out now.
Ayvira dashed forward beside him, light forming along her arm again. Another javelin appeared, this one thicker and sparking faintly with solar energy.
She hurled it.
CRACK!
It pierced the goblin's chest this time, right between two ribs.
The monster stumbled again.
It swung its axe blindly, rage overtaking strategy, and Devon rolled low underneath the wild arc.
"Drahon! Now!" Devon shouted.
Drahon nodded. He and Ayvira backed away quickly as Devon stepped in one final time.
He flipped the scimitar in his grip and activated one of his dragon skills.
[Shadow Coil – Active]
The sword sparked with black energy, this sort of spark that seemed like a transformer was exploding.
Devon ducked, lunged forward, and drove it upward through the goblin's gut.
A spark of shadow erupted from the wound, and the goblin froze, shuddering.
Then it collapsed onto its knees.
Devon stepped back, watching it topple.
BOOMF!
The goblin hit the floor with a heavy crash, exhaling a final rattled breath.
A glowing red notification blinked across their vision:
> [You have slain a Level 12 Elite Draconic Goblin]
[EXP +650 - shared]
[Essence Absorption – Available]
[Drop Item Acquired: Bladed Goblin Crest (Rare)]
They all took a breath.
"That was tough," Devon said, breathing heavily. "That one had a personal vendetta."
"Or maybe it was just guarding something," Ayvira said, walking over to the spot where the goblin had emerged.
Drahon tilted his head. "You think it was just… waiting?"
"Could be," she answered. "That circular glyph on the floor? Looks like some sort of ward."
The glowing marking from earlier still glowed faintly, as if untouched by the battle.
They approached it cautiously, weapons still in hand.
"So… what now?" Devon asked. "Another boss? Trap? Secret door?"
"No idea," Drahon said. "But whatever this place is hiding, it wasn't meant to be accessed easily and we're sort of doing that. Gaining access eas..," he paused. "I won't say it as been easy but something like that. We're gaining access sort of easily?"
Ayvira knelt near the edge of the glyph, running a hand along its carved lines.
"These symbols are old," she muttered. "Way older than the goblins we fought. Could be Draconic... or something worse."
Drahon sheathed his sword and crossed his arms. "Guess we find out."
He was certain one of the eggs were hidden here because why else why the Draconic goblins guard the tower like their lives depended on it.
At first it was the Draconic goblins that could talk, saying desperately that they had to guard the tower, then a really powerful Draconic goblin Boss monster and now…,
A last security!
An enormous Draconic goblin Guard.
With this thoughts, Drahon stepped toward the center of the circle, perhaps it led to a really deep hole that would sink him, Drahon didn't mind, he had the Draconic leap, he could avert the fall.
Nothing happened at first, but he anticipated something and so did the other players.
And then, just as a faint hum began to rise beneath their feet.
The sigil glowed brighter and the ground shifted.
Ayvira rose to her feet quickly. Devon gripped his weapon tighter.
Suddenly…
A part of the ceiling split open with a low, grinding rumble. Dust and fragments of stone trickled down like dry rain. Then, without warning, a glowing object slipped free from the shadows above and plummeted toward the ground.
Squinting their eyes, the players could all see that it was a dragon egg, but more silk, smooth and…, delicate.
[System Alert: Save the object before it falls!]
The alert flashed across their retinas, quick and urgent.
Drahon moved before any thought could catch up.
"Draconic Leap!"
