Chapter 58: "Breaking Through Mental Power"
Judging by the warmth of Siyar's hand earlier, her mental strength seemed to have almost fully recovered. Tomorrow, it would be possible to proceed with the system's promised breakthrough for her mental power.
When Siyar returned to her residence, the tension in her heart finally eased. The trace of melancholy she'd felt earlier had completely vanished, replaced by a comforting warmth.
"I really think I felt Krillin's heartbeat earlier… It was beating even faster than mine! Yet he still managed to keep such a composed face. How annoying!" Siyar pouted slightly, her cherry-like lips shimmering with a delicate gloss, as she muttered this with mock irritation.
If Krillin had seen this scene, he'd undoubtedly have thought:
"Even when she's annoyed, she's adorable. How could anyone resist that?"
The next day came quickly for Krillin, though his anticipation made it feel slower than usual.
He arrived near the square early, not wanting to leave anything to chance.
This time, he didn't have to wait too long. Siyar showed up promptly, and Krillin's heart lifted at the sight of her.
"Let's go somewhere farther today, Siyar," Krillin suggested gently, his eyes lingering on her radiant presence.
"Why farther? This spot seems fine," Siyar replied, her clear eyes reflecting curiosity.
"This time, we'll be breaking through your mental limits. It'll take longer, and this place isn't suitable for such a serious process," Krillin thought to himself.
Out loud, he explained with a serious tone, "It's too noisy here, and the scenery is a bit monotonous. Seeing new things might help you recover your mental strength better."
Siyar considered his words and nodded obediently. "Alright."
Instead of flying, Siyar opted for high-speed movement along the ground, likely to avoid being seen by her people.
Her impressive power level of 150,000 meant her speed was far from slow. Occasionally, she glanced back to ensure Krillin could keep up, her face showing hints of concern.
Each time she looked back, Krillin smiled reassuringly, and Siyar's cheeks flushed slightly. Seeing that he had no trouble following her pace, she stopped looking back and sped up significantly.
After a short while, the two arrived at a serene spot. From here, the entire settlement of the Perseans was visible, with a massive tree towering into the sky beside them. The azure sky and the vast landscape painted a breathtaking view of the entire planet.
"This was one of my favorite places when I was little," Siyar said, her voice soft as she gazed at the view. "From here, you can see all of Zisan Star. But… I haven't been back here in a long time."
As she spoke, a tinge of sadness flickered in her gem-like eyes.
Krillin caught this subtle change and stepped forward to hold her small hand gently.
His body stiffened slightly. Why hasn't she returned here since then? he wondered. Is she afraid to face her people? Afraid she can't lead them well?
Pulling her along, Krillin led Siyar to a clean rock nearby and sat down.
Siyar's heart raced at the sudden gesture, but as they settled on the rock, with Krillin only holding her hand, she slowly relaxed.
"System, you said you could help Siyar break through her mental power. Let's begin."
"Ding-dong! This will cost 50,000 energy, with at least 40,000 allocated to the breakthrough itself. Starting now."
Suddenly, a powerful energy wave emanated from Krillin, much stronger than before. If the previous energy wave felt like a gentle stream, this one was a roaring river.
Siyar immediately felt the difference. The surge of energy resonated deeply with her mental power, urging it to respond.
Krillin released her hand and said seriously, "Try to break through your limits now."
Siyar nodded slightly, closed her bright eyes, and focused inward.
Within her mind, a massive star of light pulsed, flickering between brilliance and dimness. The radiant starlight symbolized her mental power, and she began communicating with it, pushing it toward growth.
Krillin watched nervously as Siyar's long lashes quivered slightly. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead. Concerned, he asked, "System, is this dangerous?"
"Relax. It's all part of the normal process," the system replied calmly.
Inside Siyar's mental space, her mind expanded slowly but surely. Each increment brought a sharp, distinct mental pain—unavoidable yet necessary for growth.
Her body trembled slightly, and more sweat appeared on her arms. Her crimson dress grew soaked, clinging to her figure and accentuating her graceful curves.
Krillin gulped audibly. I'm just human—how can anyone handle this?
To steady himself, he sat down nearby, keeping a close eye on her in case anything went wrong.
Two hours later, the energy wave from the system began to fade.
Krillin could sense that Siyar's mental power had grown significantly. Success was close.
Siyar exhaled softly and opened her eyes, but her body wavered as if she might collapse onto the rock.
Reacting quickly, Krillin dashed to her side, catching her gently as she slumped against him.
In his arms, Siyar felt soft and weightless, her pale face glistening with sweat. Her bright eyes gazed up at him trustingly.
A faint fragrance wafted from her, and Krillin froze momentarily. Her soaked dress clung to her, radiating warmth, making her presence even more vivid.
But when Krillin met her bright, trusting gaze, his momentary distraction vanished. She wasn't just beautiful—she completely trusted him.
Carefully, he used his sleeve to dab the sweat from her forehead. "You must be exhausted," he said softly, his voice filled with concern.
Siyar's lips curled into a faint, sweet smile. Her voice was weak but content. "I'm… fine. It worked."
With that, she smiled once more and drifted into sleep.
Krillin chuckled quietly. "You're adorable."
He adjusted his position gently, ensuring she was comfortable in his arms.
Siyar's sleeping face was serene. Her long lashes trembled faintly, and a tiny bead of sweat rolled down her cheek.
As Krillin carefully smoothed her silver hair, he noticed how well she cared for it. She'd want it neat when she wakes up, he thought.
While combing her silky hair, Krillin looked out over Zisan Star, savoring the tranquility of the moment.
Everything feels perfect right now, he thought, holding Siyar closer in his arms.
