Chapter 23: The Grand Elder
Namek is extremely far from Earth. Even the fastest spaceships, crafted using advanced Namekian and Saiyan technology, take a full month to make the journey.
Krillin noticed Kami's anxious expression and chuckled awkwardly. "Sorry, Kami. I kind of lied to you. It'll actually take us a month to get there."
Kami seemed unsurprised, as if he had already guessed. He remained silent, though his expression betrayed his unease. The phrase "near to home but far from peace" aptly described Kami's current state.
Krillin tried to reassure him. "The Namekians are a peaceful people, kind and simple." Inwardly, he added, Well, except for Lord Slug. He's a Namekian with a heart full of evil, far more talented in combat than Piccolo. After regaining his youth and transforming into a Super Namekian, his power level soared to an astonishing 200 million... Even in his aged form, he was still at 40 million.
Kami remained deep in thought. It seemed his heart would not be at ease until they set foot on Namek. Krillin sighed and shook his head.
Training During the Journey
A month in space couldn't be wasted. Krillin decided to make the most of the time by training. He activated his gravity chamber.
Setting it to 100 times gravity, the environment turned a dark red, and the air seemed to grow denser. Krillin grinned. "It's been a while since I've felt this."
One Month Later
Ding! "Estimated time to landing: five minutes," the ship's mechanical voice announced.
Krillin, seated cross-legged, slowly opened his eyes. "Finally," he sighed.
On the 28th day of the journey, Krillin had stopped his intense training to preserve his peak condition. In the depths of space, one could never predict what might happen.
System, show attributes:
Time: Age 756
Name: Krillin
Age: 21
Race: Earthling
Tier: First-level dimension (equivalent to Korin)
Power Level: 340,000 (next limit: 1.5 million)
Potential: 1.16 million
Training Speed: Lightspeed
"I only increased by 30,000 this month. That's a bit slow. With limited energy, I can't afford to activate VIP training for long. Lightspeed training is more efficient for now. This will take time, but I'll get there eventually," Krillin thought with a sigh.
Arrival at Namek
"One minute to Namek," the ship announced again.
Through the window, the outline of Namek came into view—a green planet with a few bright companion stars nearby. These were about the brightness of first-magnitude stars by Earth's standards.
As the ship entered the atmosphere, the sky glowed green. Namek wasn't a single landmass but a collection of hundreds of islands dotting the planet.
Kami stood at the ship's door, leaning on his staff, a sheen of sweat on his forehead. He silently gazed at the familiar yet alien homeland.
Boom!
The ship successfully landed on a high plateau.
"Destination reached: Namek. Travel time: 29 days and 10 hours," the ship's monotonous voice announced, carrying a hint of cheer—perhaps it was happy to have returned home.
"Let's go, Kami," Krillin said.
Kami nodded silently.
Setting Foot on Namek
The two exited the ship. Kami took a deep breath of the air, listened to the gentle wind rustling the strange trees, and gazed at the flowing rivers. His voice trembled as he spoke. "It's been hundreds of years… I've finally returned home. This… this is my homeland."
Meanwhile, on another part of Namek, a towering Namekian lay on a large chair. His breaths were shallow, his voice weak but commanding.
"Nail, I sense the arrival of a kind and gentle presence—a new clansman has come. They're about 2,000 kilometers to the east. Go and greet them."
"Yes, Grand Elder," Nail replied respectfully.
Meeting Nail
"Kami, we should visit the leader of the Namekians—the Grand Elder. I can sense a strong energy in the southwest. That must be where the Grand Elder resides," Krillin said excitedly.
Kami nodded. "Yes, that's the Grand Elder's location. Now that I'm on Namek, fragments of memory are surfacing, though they remain unclear. But I can distinctly feel where the Grand Elder is."
"Someone's coming toward us. Their energy is similar to Piccolo's—about 40,000 in power," Krillin observed calmly.
No need to worry. Just 40,000—I could wipe them out in an instant, Krillin thought. That must be Nail. As a battle-type Namekian, having such power is normal. The Grand Elder is impressive—he sensed our arrival immediately and sent Nail to greet us.
Nail flew swiftly, arriving within moments at Krillin's landing site. He looked at the elderly Kami and was visibly surprised. He hadn't expected another Namekian to be alive on a distant planet.
Landing gracefully, Nail bowed respectfully toward Kami. "Honored elder, I, Nail, welcome you."
Kami studied Nail closely. "He resembles Piccolo but lacks the violent aura. His energy is calm and restrained."
"Rise, child," Kami said gently, his eyes filled with affection like a grandfather looking at his grandson.
"Can you take us to the Grand Elder?" Kami asked.
"I was sent by the Grand Elder to escort you. Please, elder, allow me to carry you on my back so we may return swiftly. My duty is to protect the Grand Elder, and I cannot stay away for long," Nail said, bending down.
Kami climbed onto Nail's back without hesitation. Krillin smirked. I'll let him have this moment of filial piety. No need to compete, hehe. Let's go.
The Grand Elder's Home
Nail carried Kami while Krillin followed closely behind. They soon arrived at a high pillar-like plateau where the Grand Elder resided.
The structure had a design similar to Kami's spaceship—distinctly Namekian. Interesting architecture. Definitely unique, Krillin thought with a chuckle.
Meeting the Grand Elder
Inside, the Grand Elder lay on a massive chair, his enormous frame making an immediate impression.
"Whoa… the Grand Elder is huge!" Krillin thought in awe.
