Dragon Ball: I Became Cell in a Doomed Future

Chapter 36: Chapter 36: The Struggle for the Dragon Balls

"Oh ho ho… what an unexpected prize," Frieza murmured, narrowing his eyes as a bloodthirsty glint flashed within them. "To think the Earth's Dragon Balls would resurface at a time like this."

As he spoke, he lifted the orb to eye level, carefully inspecting it.

Bathed in a soft amber glow, the semi-transparent sphere held five crimson stars within.

Levos fell silent in thought. No matter what, he had to prevent Frieza from collecting the Dragon Balls.

But soon, his attention shifted away from the orb.

Boom!

King Cold landed beside them, eyes narrowing. "Frieza, that thing in your hand… could it be a Dragon Ball?"

Frieza, in unusually high spirits, let out a gleeful chuckle. "Indeed! With this, I can finally make my wish for eternal life."

King Cold smirked with confidence. "Our race already enjoys long lifespans, and our strength surpasses the rest of the universe. I'm surprised you're so interested in immortality. Once we've conquered the entire cosmos, I believe we'll find other means of achieving eternal life without relying on the Dragon Balls."

"Father, your era has passed," Frieza said with uncommon seriousness. "The universe is crawling with strong upstarts now. The larger our empire becomes, the more threats it invites. As its ruler, I must plan ahead."

King Cold frowned. "Not even your new transformation is enough to suppress them all?"

Twirling the Dragon Ball in his hand, Frieza offered a sinister smile. "Father, have you already forgotten that arrogant Saiyan in the Southern Galaxy? I have a feeling that so-called Saiyan Empire behind him isn't as simple as it seems."

"Wait… do you mean Broly?" Levos suddenly blurted out.

"Broly? Never heard of him." Frieza tilted his head slightly, curiosity lighting up his gaze. "You seem to know something. Have you met him before?"

"I haven't seen Broly with my own eyes," Levos replied, shaking his head. After a pause, he added, "But I've heard of him. They say he's a bloodthirsty, savage warrior, the legendary Super Saiyan said to be born only once every thousand years. If he's given time to grow, he might one day wipe out the entire universe."

Frieza and King Cold exchanged glances, both visibly surprised.

Frieza spoke first, voice low. "Mr. Levos, the Saiyan who's been giving us trouble lately doesn't match that description at all, nor does he go by that name."

King Cold snorted proudly. "He's only caused problems because someone is supporting him from the shadows. Hmph. A mere Saiyan could never possess the power to destroy a galaxy, let alone the universe."

Levos frowned. "But didn't he already wipe out the Southern Galaxy?"

King Cold scoffed. "If he truly had that power, would he still be hiding in the dark?"

Frieza's lips curled upward. "According to our intel, the mastermind behind the Southern Galaxy's fall vanished more than twenty years ago."

So… the Saiyan currently opposing Frieza's army isn't Broly?

That meant other Saiyans had survived in this timeline.

A wave of confusion swept over Levos.

Frieza cleared his throat, snapping him back to the present.

"Father, summon every soldier in the nearby star systems. Scour the planet if you have to. Dig up every last Dragon Ball."

King Cold gave his son an indulgent nod. "Very well."

"Oh, one more thing," Frieza added, raising a single finger and flashing a chilling grin. "Let's check the sources of those white beams of light. Perhaps we'll find something interesting."

With that, Frieza once again took to the skies, heading toward the Lookout.

After sending out a signal from his scouter, King Cold urged, "Levos, let's go."

Levos hesitated, frowned, then followed.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Earth...

In the snowy wilderness of the far north, the ruins of Muscle Tower quaked violently. With a thunderous groan, a massive, ice-encased structure rose from beneath the earth like a beast awakening from centuries of slumber.

Suddenly, the entire base echoed with mechanical roars.

Dozens of black warplanes burst out of the opening in tight formation, streaking across the sky like falling stars.

Inside a well-lit command room, Commander Mazeta pumped his fists in excitement.

"The Dragon Balls have returned! We're one step closer to ruling the world!" he roared. "This time, we'll gather all seven in record time!"

In the Central Capital, deep within an underground workshop...

"Master Pilaf! Master Pilaf!"

A dog dressed in a purple ninja suit came skidding into the room on all fours.

Pilaf put down his wrench and shot his minion an annoyed glare. "Shu, what is it now?"

"Dr-Dragon Ball!" Shu cried, panting. "The Dragon Radar picked up a signal!"

"What?!" Pilaf's eyes lit up as he snatched the radar from Shu's paws and stared at the display. He rubbed his eyes in disbelief, thinking he must be seeing things.

It had been more than twenty years since the last time he and his gang used the Dragon Balls, only to be turned into babies by Shenron.

For all these years, he'd been obsessed with finding the Dragon Balls again, dreaming of finally achieving his grand ambitions.

Now, just as they were about to suit up in their latest mechs and head to the World Martial Arts Tournament in West City, the radar showed a reading.

"Quick, go tell Mai! There's a Dragon Ball nearby. We're going to find it right now!" Pilaf's voice trembled with excitement, his laughter echoing through the underground lab.

"Right away!" Shu shouted, turning and sprinting off.

Back in the skies above...

Korin Tower had come into view.

If the Lookout was discovered, a deadly clash with Frieza and King Cold would be inevitable.

The two of them loathed Goku to the core, and anyone close to him would be in grave danger.

There would be no room for negotiation.

To protect the Lookout and Dende, everyone would fight to the death.

Levos and Bulma had already exchanged a secret glance. They were prepared for the worst.

No matter how slim their chances, they had no choice but to stake everything now.

This was a battle for Earth's survival.

King Cold, gazing up at the towering Korin Tower, even dropped his usual arrogance and muttered, "I didn't expect such an awe-inspiring structure to exist on such a tiny planet."

Frieza, on the other hand, didn't even pause. He flew straight upward toward the Lookout.

And in that moment, Levos began quietly channeling the energy within his body…
