Dragon Ball: Birth of a New Saiyan Legend

Chapter 42: [42]. Building the Dragon Radar

Though this wasn't the same Earth he once knew, the food here was just as delicious. Kaso ate until his cheeks were smeared with grease.

Tights leaned on her delicate white chin, sitting beside him with a soft smile on her face. But when her gaze swept over the mountain of empty dishes, she couldn't help but wonder:

How could such a small stomach hold that much food?

And his belly didn't even bulge a little!

Burp—!

Kaso set down his bowl and let out a satisfied belch.

He was full. Time to get back to business.

"Tights, is Dr. Brief free right now?"

He wanted to ask for help building a Dragon Radar, though he felt a little guilty. Dr. Brief had just finished crafting a gravity chamber for him—asking for another favor right after felt like a bit much.

"You still have something else?"

Tights and Bulma both turned to look at Kaso, while Ausbi'er was still deep in battle with the food.

"Well… I was hoping he could help me build a little gadget," Kaso said with some hesitation.

"What kind of gadget?" Tights asked curiously.

Given Kaso's tone, she figured it must be something important. Otherwise, he wouldn't sound so sheepish about asking.

Bulma also tilted her head, watching him with curiosity.

Kaso slowly pulled out a Dragon Ball from his pocket and held it up. "I'd like him to make a device that can locate this."

"Huh?"

Bulma reached out and took the Dragon Ball from his hand, inspecting it closely.

It looked really familiar, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't recall where she'd seen it before.

"You want a tracking device for this? I can probably make that. No need to bother my dad," Bulma said, throwing up her hands like it was no big deal.

"You can really do it?" Tights was doubtful. She knew how smart her sister was—always tinkering with little inventions—but she was worried this thing might be too important to leave to her.

Bulma immediately gave her a look.

Why does no one ever trust her?

"Bulma's super smart. I think she can do it," Kaso chimed in from the side, firmly backing her up.

He knew the original Dragon Ball story began with Bulma building the Dragon Radar. After finding one Dragon Ball in her family's storage room, she'd done a ton of research and eventually identified it as a legendary wish-granting item. That discovery kicked off her journey—and the story of Dragon Ball itself.

Even if she was still young now, Kaso believed in her.

Seeing the earnest trust in his eyes, Bulma huffed and puffed but couldn't hide her smirk.

"Fine. I'll let you know when it's done."

Really, she was only helping because she still wanted him to teach her that awesome flying trick.

But she wasn't about to say that out loud.

"That girl…" Tights smiled and didn't press further.

If Kaso and Bulma were both confident, it should be fine.

Half a day passed.

Ausbi'er lay sprawled on the couch, hands on her round belly, a blissful expression on her face.

She'd never eaten anything so delicious. Part of her even wanted to stay on Earth forever.

At that moment, all traces of Saiyan fierceness and bloodlust had vanished from her body.

All that remained was a lazy little glutton.

"This girl…" Kaso chuckled as he watched her.

Saiyans usually didn't care much about food. But once they got a taste of Earth's cuisine, Kaso was convinced it would drive them absolutely wild.

After all, even gods like Whis and Beerus had fallen for Earth's food.

Ausbi'er turning into a couch potato was really no surprise.

"How's Bulma doing?"

Tights stood up as soon as her sister returned from the workshop.

Kaso also perked up with anticipation.

According to the original timeline, it was Bulma who had created the radar in the first place. But she was still so young now—could she really pull it off?

If not, he'd have to fall back on asking Dr. Brief.

"All done!" Bulma beamed.

When she first got the Dragon Ball, she had several design ideas in mind. First, she ran a wave scan—after all, most physical objects emit unique energy waveforms.

If the Dragon Ball didn't emit any waves, she had backup plans.

But as it turned out, the orb had a very distinct and traceable signature. That made everything a whole lot easier.

Within a few hours, she had built a fully functional Dragon Radar.

No big deal.

This kind of stuff was child's play for someone like her.

Holding her chin high like a swan, she presented the device to Kaso with the confidence of a queen awaiting praise.

Kaso chuckled.

Even at her young age, Bulma really was a genius—easily one of the smartest minds in the Dragon Ball universe.

"I built your gadget, so… now you'll teach me how to fly, right?"

Bulma grinned at him.

She'd asked him several times before, but he always ignored her. So she'd turned to Ausbi'er instead.

But seeing the little glutton collapsed on the sofa...

Yeah, maybe Kaso was the better bet.

She knew well enough: if you accept someone's help, you have to return the favor.

Now Kaso couldn't refuse her.

She was already daydreaming about soaring through the sky.

Kaso: "…"

Yep. Just as he thought.

No one gives you something for nothing.

Still, her family had helped him tremendously.

Teaching Bulma how to harness ki? No big deal.

Besides, things were quiet right now, and he had nothing urgent on his schedule.

As for delivering the gravity chamber back to Planet Sadala—what's the rush?

"I'll stay here another month and teach you how to cultivate your ki," he said solemnly.

"But I'll warn you—ki training is tough. Are you sure you want to go through with it?"

"I'm sure!" Bulma nodded furiously.

She'd been begging him for so long—now that he was finally saying yes, she wasn't about to let him change his mind.

She had already prepared herself for the grind.

Tights smiled at their exchange.

If she wanted to learn too, she had a feeling Kaso would happily teach her.

But she wasn't really into martial arts. What she wanted most was to write novels.

In fact, she'd been stuck at home for weeks now trying to find inspiration.

Then—just a month ago—she met Kaso and Ausbi'er.

These two tiny, absurdly powerful kids had flipped her world upside down.

And just today, Kaso had even taken her flying through the skies.

That incredible feeling of soaring freely, that rush, that thrill—

It was intoxicating.

Tights looked thoughtful.

Maybe, just maybe… she'd finally found her inspiration to write again.
