Dragon Ball: Ascension

Chapter 28: THEY CALL HIM THE WHAT?

"Father, don't worry," Cooler said, his expression returning to its usual cold composure. "That being may be stronger than me currently, but it won't take long to eliminate him. Once that obstacle is removed, I can begin the conquest plan in earnest."

"Excellent. You're proving far more useful than that fool Frieza," King Cold nodded approvingly, though his tone carried a hint of disdain. "After conquering the Northern Galaxy, that idiot brother of yours has grown content to play emperor and indulge in luxuries. He's lost all ambition. We of the Cold family are destined to become the most noble race in the entire universe, you must never become as complacent as Frieza."

"Of course, Father," Cooler replied with a sneer. "Let Frieza enjoy his little Northern Galaxy kingdom. Soon enough, the Eastern, Southern, and Western Galaxies will all fall under our control."

"Well, well. What do we have here? Two members of the infamous Cold family."

Both Frost Demons spun around at the unexpected voice. Behind them stood a young man with wild black hair, his arms crossed casually as he regarded them with obvious amusement.

"Who dares—?" King Cold began, then stopped as his eyes focused on the brown-furred tail wrapped around the intruder's waist. "A Saiyan? I thought Frieza had exterminated your entire race when he destroyed Planet Vegeta. How pathetic that one of you monkeys survived, only to foolishly appear before the Cold family."

"Father, this weakling Saiyan is hardly worth your attention," Cooler stepped forward, energy beginning to crackle around his form. "Allow me to deal with this insect."

"No, Cooler," King Cold raised a hand to stop his son, a cruel smile spreading across his features. "It's been too long since I've had any entertainment. I think I'll play with this Saiyan myself."

Karnel raised an eyebrow, his expression remaining casually confident. "Are all you ice-types this arrogant? You seem to have already decided my fate."

"Indeed, let me show you why n#ggas call me the Snow—"

SMACK!

King Cold's words were cut off as Karnel's palm connected with his face in a resounding slap that sent the Frost Demon monarch tumbling across the frozen ground.

"You know, for being Frieza's father, your strength doesn't quite match your big mouth," Karnel said conversationally, flexing his fingers as King Cold slowly picked himself up from the ice.

"You... you dare strike me in the face?" King Cold snarled, touching his cheek in disbelief.

"Father, be careful," Cooler warned, his earlier casual demeanor replaced by alertness. "This Saiyan is concealing his true power level." Despite his caution, Cooler remained confident, even with hidden strength, this warrior couldn't possibly match his father's full power.

"Cooler, silence!" King Cold snapped, his pride thoroughly wounded. "Saiyan, I'll make you understand the true terror of the Cold family!"

The massive Frost Demon launched himself at Karnel with devastating speed and power. King Cold's combat strength approached 120 million, nearly equivalent to Frieza's final form, but in his anger, he was holding back significantly, using only a fraction of his full power to toy with his opponent.

Karnel, still in his base form, met the attack head-on. The sound of their collision echoed across the frozen landscape as fist met fist in a symphony of destruction.

BOOM!

After several minutes of intense combat, both fighters separated, each having landed solid hits on the other.

"Impressive, Saiyan," King Cold admitted, breathing slightly harder than before. "I've never encountered a member of your race with such power. Tell me, are you the legendary Super Saiyan spoken of in ancient tales?"

"Oh? Am I a Super Saiyan?" Karnel replied with a smirk. "Why don't you take a guess?"

King Cold launched a surprise kick, but Karnel vanished at the last second, appearing behind the Frost Demon with his hands clasped together. He brought them down in a devastating hammer blow that sent King Cold crashing into the ice below, creating a crater several meters deep and sending shards of frozen debris flying in all directions.

"Adequate strength, Saiyan," King Cold said as he emerged from the crater, completely unharmed despite the impact. "But that level of power won't even scratch me. If this is truly your full strength, then you'll die here today. I've been using only a small fraction of my power to fight you thus far. Now, prepare to witness the true might of King Cold! Despair, monkey!"

"You talk too much," Karnel said simply, dropping into a more serious fighting stance. "Show me what you've got."

King Cold's power doubled instantly, his speed and strength increasing dramatically as he launched a renewed assault. This time, his attacks carried genuine killing intent.

Karnel barely managed to block the first strike, the force of the impact sending him sliding back hundreds of meters across the ice. The battle resumed at a frantic pace, hundreds of exchanges per second as the two warriors clashed in midair.

Though Karnel found himself consistently on the defensive, his superior technique and reflexes allowed him to block or dodge every attack. King Cold's increased power hadn't yet found its mark.

"How is this possible, Saiyan?" King Cold demanded, frustration creeping into his voice. "Why won't you attack? Are you so afraid that you can only run and hide? Very well, let me show you my full power and demonstrate the hopelessness of your situation!"

The Frost Demon stopped his assault and began to power up in earnest. A terrifying aura erupted from his body as his energy climbed steadily upward, finally stabilizing at a truly monstrous level.

"Behold, Saiyan! This is my complete power! Nearly ten times what I was using before. Are you trembling with fear yet?" King Cold's face twisted with malicious glee as waves of dark energy radiated from his form.

Clap. Clap. Clap.

Karnel applauded mockingly. "Oh, how terrifying. I'm absolutely paralyzed with fear," he said in a completely deadpan tone.

"It seems you still don't understand the desperate situation you're in," King Cold snarled, his patience finally exhausted. "I'll teach you the meaning of despair!"

"Actually," Karnel interrupted, his own expression becoming more serious, "you've been asking about the legendary Super Saiyan from ancient times. Since you're so curious about it, I suppose I should give you a proper demonstration."

King Cold, who had been preparing to launch his final attack, hesitated. Despite his rage, the mention of the legendary transformation intrigued him.

"Oh? So you claim to be this mythical Super Saiyan?" the Frost Demon said, crossing his arms. "Very well, monkey. Show me this legendary power that supposedly terrified my ancestors. Let me see if the reality lives up to the legend."

Karnel smiled, a expression that somehow managed to be both confident and predatory.

"With pleasure."
