Chapter 246: Slacking Off
Or, more precisely, the raging tide formed by countless vengeful spirits was surging towards the legendary battlefield high in the sky.
Within the vast, green expanse of the tide of vengeful spirits, an unmistakable legendary aura of coldness, eeriness, and death was released without any attempt to hide it, throwing the dragon in that particular area into a panic.
Wherever the tide of vengeful spirits passed, flowers, grasses, and trees withered, and all birds, beasts, insects, and ants died.
"The support from the Council of the Undead has arrived!" Muria looked up at the legendary undead leading the tide of vengeful spirits, "Just not sure if they've had any dealings with Barbosa, and whether they'll put in any effort later."
High above at ten thousand meters, the ancient dragons who had already overwhelmed Berlain and his legendary undead dragon were caught off guard by the overwhelming tide of vengeful spirits and exchanged glances.
Then, an ancient silver dragon immediately left the battlefield, flying towards the tide of vengeful spirits with a cold aura capable of freezing space.
As the ancient silver dragon approached the tide, the vast expanse of vengeful spirits swiftly parted, creating a path. Upon seeing the densely packed vengeful spirits, the silver dragon paused momentarily before flying straight in.
Regardless of whether the legendary vengeful spirit in front was really slacking off, the ancient silver dragon was indifferent. It believed in its own strength and had enough power to deal with any situation.
In fact, the power within the ancient silver dragon was already primed for release. It wouldn't let down its guard just because of a core member of the Council of the Undead. It wasn't that naive.
This group of ancient dragons had long been prepared to fight against all the legendary undead of the Bavarian Kingdom. Their real mission was to locate and pin down Berlain's position, without any intention of capturing him in one go.
They were just the first to receive the news and arrive quickly. Behind them, more ancient and legendary dragons were coming, summoned by the terrifying call of the Dragon God and the Dragon King. Of course, the influence of the Mother of Evil Dragons, a dragon deity, was another matter.
"Silver dragon, relax a little. I have no interest in fighting you," said a sinister voice of a vengeful spirit, as the ancient silver dragon, enveloped in a fog-like chill, was completely isolated from the outside world by the vengeful spirits glowing with a green eerie light.
"Why should I believe you?" the ancient silver dragon squinted at a middle-aged man with a black beard appearing in front of it, wearing a crown and royal robe. His complexion was ruddy, and his eyes were bright, looking more alive than the living, except for the lack of life's aura.
"Isn't my posture enough?" asked the legendary vengeful spirit, holding a scepter and dressed like a king, with a friendly uncle-like demeanor.
But the ancient silver dragon was not deceived by his appearance. The vengeful spirits enveloping all around, many of which were high-level spirits with clear forms, including old people, children, and women. Most of them appeared as children and babies.
Due to their untimely deaths at the prime of their lives, they bore deep resentment. Lacking faith, they easily became vengeful spirits and were extremely vicious, harboring great malice towards the living.
However, even these vicious spirits showed clear fear and awe when looking at this king-like legendary vengeful spirit.
"If you don't want to make a move, then why are you here?" asked the ancient silver dragon as a cracking sound emitted from around him, with fine cracks appearing and disappearing in the air, frozen by his emanating cold.
"I have to put up at least a basic front," replied the king-like vengeful spirit, leaning on his scepter. "A bigwig from the Council of the Undead is paying attention to this kingdom. If I just watch Berlain being besieged and do nothing, I'll be punished when I return."
"But by not putting in effort so blatantly, won't you still be punished upon return?"
"I've already made my stance clear. Even if I get punished, I won't help him," the legendary vengeful spirit said with dissatisfaction. "Last time when your dragon clan besieged Berlain, I blocked two ancient dragons for him, and lost a tenth of my spirits.
When Berlain revived, I went to ask for my reward and compensation. He actually denied the debt. Even if he couldn't pay all at once, he could've given me an IOU, with a longer repayment period.
But he dared to default on my debt. With that attitude, he can dream about getting my help. That I haven't joined your siege is already out of consideration for a fellow council member."
The ancient silver dragon fell silent. The reasons given by the legendary vengeful spirit for slacking off were quite valid.
"Besides, I've already held off an ancient dragon for him. Under these circumstances, even that bigwig can't really blame me," the legendary vengeful spirit chuckled, looking at the ancient silver dragon.
"Hold me off!" The ancient silver dragon's eyes narrowed slightly, and the mist around him thickened silently.
"Silver dragon, I've already said, I don't want to fight. Don't cause unnecessary trouble," the legendary vengeful spirit warned, changing from holding the scepter with both hands to just one. "If we fight, it will take a long time to determine a victor, and it's meaningless for the battle. So, let's save our energy. Just stand by and watch them fight."
... "Half a day and still no movement!" Muria watched the vengeful tide that had engulfed the ancient silver dragon and then remained motionless, murmuring to himself: "Such blatant slacking off. Is Berlain's connection with the undead that poor?"
In fact, there was another possibility for the half-day silence: the ancient silver dragon had been silently dealt with. But this thought was immediately dismissed by Muria. In this world, except for an epic entity taking action, no existence could silently deal with an ancient silver dragon.
Just then, a black pillar of death energy, bridging the sky and earth, moved towards the aerial battlefield, signifying the arrival of another legendary undead from the Council.
The ancient dragons, of course, sensed this ostentatious display of aura. Thus, a yellow jade ancient dragon also left the battlefield to intercept this legendary undead, who formed a towering pillar of death energy merely by releasing their aura.
Muria casually overturned a ghost dragon, turning his gaze towards the yellow jade dragon. The legendary undead, who stopped and revealed themselves, turned out to be a dark knight with a spear and bow.
To Muria, it seemed that after a brief conversation, the yellow jade dragon and the dark knight began fighting fiercely, with thousand-meter-long spear glows and spells covering a portion of the sky. The battle seemed to reach its climax from the start.
As they fought, fine spatial cracks appeared sporadically, an impressive sight. However, after observing for a while, Muria realized that the two legends were just faking it, still slacking off.
Despite the apparent power of their spear glows and spells, all attacks were landing on empty space, creating a great spectacle but never hitting the other. This level of tacit understanding left Muria at a loss for words.
"It's too obvious!" Muria commented, watching the two legendary undead putting on a lackluster rescue effort.
