The next day, Leng Jiuming directly took the three of them back to Eastsea City in his mecha form, soaring across the sea instead of taking the slow ferry.
"Since it's the holiday now, you can head home on your own. Zhang Wa, come with me—I'll arrange your identity," Leng Jiuming said. He truly believed Zhang Wa had remarkable talent and, with proper training, could very well become a Titled Douluo in the future.
At the crossroads, Leng Jiuming left with Zhang Wa, leaving Bai Xu and Gu Yue staring at each other in silence.
However, Leng Jiuming's words reminded Bai Xu of his foster parents. He had heard that his foster father had been promoted again and moved to Tianhai City, where he had settled down. Over the years, they had exchanged letters, but Bai Xu had never gone back to visit.
'Should I go back?'
Bai Xu thought for a moment, then shook his head and decided to focus on cultivation. Eastsea City was right next to the ocean, where water elements were abundant—perfect for enhancing his water-based cultivation. Training took priority.
After exchanging a few pleasantries, the two prepared to part ways, yet both found themselves heading in the direction of the Spirit Pagoda.
Gu Yue looked puzzled. "Aren't you going home?"
Bai Xu waved his hand. "My home is too far away; I can't go back. Might as well take advantage of the holiday to train. Then, when the semester starts, I'll overtake everyone."
Gu Yue fell silent. This guy really was a cultivation maniac. But then, realizing there was no one else around, she asked, "Do you remember what happened when you were hit by that backlash and passed out the other day?"
"No, why?"
"At the time, Instructor Leng fed you a Spirit Soul Fruit, and then your body started emitting strange elemental light. You don't just control metal—you can also manipulate earth and water, can't you?"
Bai Xu's eye twitched. He hadn't expected this—Instructor Leng hadn't told him Gu Yue knew his secret!
He forced an awkward laugh. "It's a sensitive matter, so I can't say much. But you... Gu Yue, I feel like you're very interested in me."
Gu Yue scoffed. "Who's interested in you?!"
"Then you really don't want to know?"
"I—"
[Tell her. This is an opportunity...]
Bai Xu froze for a moment before speaking meaningfully, "Go ask Instructor Leng. Tell him I sent you." Then he turned and walked toward his dorm without another word.
The World Spirit had given him guidance, which was why Bai Xu had said what he did.
He hurried back to his dorm, locked the door, and muttered, "Come out. Let's talk."
Bai Xu's martial soul activated on its own, and a wisp of Qi flew out from his eyes, coalescing into a hazy, chaotic mist in front of him. It emitted an ethereal voice: "My lord... please hear me out..."
"Speak."
"Your life cultivation is overwhelmingly powerful, but your soul power is only at Rank 30. I can only survive by relying on your martial soul. The deeper your soul power cultivation, the stronger my abilities become..."
"Get to the point!"
"I can no longer conceal your presence from the heavens. If you don't strengthen your martial soul cultivation soon, you may be exposed to the eyes of the current Plane Lord..."
Bai Xu was shocked. "What?!"
At his current level, Bai Xu stood no chance against Tang Hao, the Plane Lord. If exposed, his only hope would be Tang Hao's mercy—but given Bai Xu's understanding of the Tang family, Tang Hao would most likely crush him with a single palm and coldly declare: No one shall disrupt Tang San's ten-thousand-year plan!
Bai Xu urgently said, "I'll start cultivating immediately. But what did you mean earlier by telling me to reveal information to Gu Yue? You know she's the Silver Dragon King, don't you?"
"My lord... the soul beasts are currently potential allies... And I truly do not wish to see them go extinct on the Douluo Continent... Thus, I hope you can lend them your aid..."
"I refuse. Revealing myself to them is too risky. If they decide to kill me and take my treasures, I'd have no way to resist against someone like Di Tian, who's at the Demigod level." Bai Xu was firm.
"My lord, please hear me out... This humble World Spirit has but one last function—to bestow upon you a sliver of fortune. This fortune cannot grant you any great opportunities, only slightly improve your luck. And now, nearly all the fortune of Douluo Continent is concentrated on Tang Wulin. I cannot seize it...
Moreover, the resources of Douluo Continent have long been monopolized by the major factions—the Spirit Pagoda, Shrek Academy, the Tang Sect, and the three great nations. With my limited power, I truly have no means to provide you with cultivation resources...
The only option I see is forging an alliance between you and the soul beasts. Once you grow strong enough, you can help them regain their standing. Using the soul beasts' resources to nurture you is the only thing I can do now."
"No resources..."
Bai Xu murmured softly. The World Spirit wasn't wrong. Though Bai Xu had joined the Spirit Pagoda, as Leng Jiuming had said, the current Spirit Pagoda was little more than a machine serving the Qiangu Family.
To gain their resources, one either had to serve them like a dog or, like Gu Yue in the original story, become part of the Qiangu Family.
The Tang Sect and Shrek Academy were no different—they subjected recruits to long periods of observation and training to ensure loyalty. Bai Xu was confident he could fake it, but the techniques and combat skills he used were clearly not derived from martial souls. His entire being was shrouded in mystery.
Strangers might not notice, but anyone who looked deeper would quickly realize Bai Xu's uniqueness.
His abilities were too powerful—enough to shift the balance between ordinary humans and soul masters. If a normal person could cultivate Bai Xu's methods, they could achieve strength comparable to, or even surpassing, that of martial souls.
What would happen then?
Who would willingly remain ordinary? Could soul masters still lord over commoners? The entire nation would rise in rebellion—how would the Federation respond?
Anyone would shout: Are kings and nobles truly born superior?
Bai Xu had enough political sense to see this. But these reasons still weren't enough for him to take the risk of allying with the soul beasts.
"If I have no resources, I'll just cultivate slower. I'll still grow strong eventually. Don't underestimate yourself—you helped me embark on this path, and I will repay this debt in the future!" Bai Xu gently stroked the hazy mist, making his decision.
But after a moment of silence, the World Spirit spoke again: "But I may not last until that day. Once Tang Hao finishes devouring me, I will vanish, and you will be exposed to his gaze. I cannot predict when that day will come..."
"Three years... five years... or perhaps just one?"
???!!!
Bai Xu was stunned. He smacked the mist and snapped, "You—! I ought to strangle you! Why didn't you say this earlier?!"
His breathing turned ragged, his heart pounding. Forcing himself to calm down, he sat on his bed and racked his brain, trying to recall the original story's plot.
Tang Hao rarely appeared during Tang Wulin's growth—A'yin had given some opportunities, but Tang Hao only showed up at the end when the Abyss Sage King invaded, summoned by Tang San. After smiting the enemy with a single hammer and fusing with the Abyss Plane, he fell into slumber.
"I can't remember clearly, but at the very least, he shouldn't act before Tang Wulin reaches adulthood..." After careful consideration, Bai Xu said, "Go contact the Silver Dragon King in secret. Only after negotiating with her can we meet. I'll lay out my terms—if she refuses, we go our separate ways."
A sense of urgency gripped Bai Xu. Time was no longer a luxury—it felt like a death sentence loomed over him. How could he sleep soundly now?
"Understood. I'll go at once."
Fortunately, Gu Yue was also staying at the Spirit Pagoda that night, so the distance wasn't an issue for the World Spirit's influence.
---
Late at night, in Gu Yue's room...
She finally sensed the World Spirit's presence again. As its aura manifested, her violet eyes illuminated the darkness.
"World Spirit, show yourself!" Her tone was imperious, befitting a god-king.
"Beast Monarch... Silver Half of the Dragon God..."
"It is I!"
"I have chosen an heir, one who shall bear the hopes of Douluo Continent. His rise shall light the path forward..."
Gu Yue frowned, unsure why the World Spirit was telling her this.
"Yet I am nearing my end. The plane has been usurped, the soul beasts driven to extinction, while humanity prospers. Soon, there will be no place left for your kind!"
!!!
The words were blunt. Space around Gu Yue rippled as several figures emerged—the Beast Kings, their faces filled with shock as they bowed to their sovereign.
"The World Spirit is dying? Who did this? The Divine Realm?" Gu Yue's voice trembled.
The World Spirit avoided a direct answer, continuing mysteriously: "I cannot bear to see the soul beasts meet such an end, so I come to warn you. My chosen heir... is your final hope."
"You want me to seek him out?"
"No. He has come himself... but he distrusts your faction. He wishes for me to witness a Soul Contract, ensuring cooperation."
The Beast Kings exchanged uneasy glances. Something felt off.
Gu Yue hesitated as she read the contract's terms: Neither party shall harm the other, lest their soul be condemned to eternal torment.
Could she agree?
This clause didn't seem threatening to the soul beasts...
The misty voice spoke again: "You are injured and have reincarnated to integrate into human society. This pact shall last only until one of you reaches Titled Douluo. After that, it shall dissolve."
Gu Yue pondered. "Until Titled Douluo... meaning he also needs time to grow. An ally is better than an enemy... and I wish to see this 'heir' the World Spirit has chosen."
But she didn't voice her thoughts. Instead, she glanced at Di Tian, silently seeking his opinion.
Di Tian stepped forward. "Your Majesty, we believe this is acceptable! The terms do not harm our interests, and the situation is dire. If the World Spirit perishes, the Divine Realm will not spare us..."
The other Beast Kings nodded in agreement. At the brink of annihilation, none could afford to stand aside. The Divine Realm had already made its move—could they remain hidden in the Star Dou Forest forever?
"My heir possesses foresight beyond time. Your actions now are laid bare before him... The heavens crumble, causality frays. Douluo is veiled by the Divine Realm, plundered at will..."
Meanwhile, Bai Xu, watching through the World Spirit's perspective: 'Stop exaggerating! I just read the novel—I can't actually see the future!'
The Beast Kings, however, were convinced the heir must be some hidden deity. Their faces brightened—they had gained a powerful ally!
Even Gu Yue was intrigued. Though she suspected the World Spirit was embellishing, she still signed the Soul Contract. Simultaneously, Bai Xu did the same.
A brilliant light erupted—the pact was sealed. The oathbreaker shall suffer the penalty of swallowing rocks... Ahem.
A mysterious passage materialized in the room. A shadowy figure strode forth as if from the end of time, its presence exuding overwhelming majesty.
But when the light faded... out stepped a child Gu Yue's age.
He awkwardly held a handful of dirt and grinned under their stunned gazes. "Long time no see, Gu Yue!"
Gu Yue's composure shattered. "It's YOU?! World Spirit, EXPLAIN YOURSELF!"
Her violet eyes blazed with draconic fury, a sonic boom nearly knocking Bai Xu off his feet. But the World Spirit was already gone—exhausted, it had retreated into Bai Xu's martial soul to slumber.
Now, it was just Bai Xu... and a room full of furious Beast Kings.
Clearing his throat, Bai Xu struck a sage-like pose, hands clasped behind his back. "Indeed. I am the one who seeks alliance with you!"
Di Tian's voice was icy. "You? A mere three-ringed brat?"
"True, my current strength is no match for yours. Fairness dictates I have no right to propose an alliance. But... I know things you do not."
"Speak!"
"First, the World Spirit is being devoured. Do you know by whom?"
Gu Yue's eyes narrowed. "Enough games. Out with it!"
"Tang Hao. Have you heard of him?"
"Tang..." Di Tian's expression darkened. "You mean the father of that god from twenty thousand years ago?"
Bai Xu nodded. "Exactly. Tang San, the Sea God and Asura God, Dual God-King—his father, Tang Hao."
The Beast Kings paled. Even Xiong Jun's defiant growl died in his throat.
The father of a God-King—who would dare oppose him?
"He is consuming the World Spirit. If he succeeds... what do you think will happen to you?" Bai Xu's words forced them to confront the grim reality.
The Beast Kings' faces twisted in despair.
"Annihilation?" Bai Xu voiced their fears.
But then he shook his head. "No. He'll let you thrive... let you roam free."
The soul beasts were baffled. Would the Divine Realm truly grant them freedom?
"Because no matter how much you grow, you will never surpass humanity. There may no longer be a 'Silver Dragon King Gu Yue'—only a 'Gu Yue of the Divine Realm.' He will subtly reshape you, making you coexist with humans. Eventually, you'll willingly offer soul rings, grateful for the 'privilege.' The soul beasts must not die—for if you perish, so too will the soul masters. Is this the future you want, Silver Dragon King? It sounds pleasant, doesn't it? Perhaps the Divine Realm will even graciously grant you a God-King's throne."
Gu Yue's brow furrowed in displeasure, as if Bai Xu's words were a prophecy.
His insight was sharp, but she challenged him: "How can you be certain of the future? Are soul beasts doomed to inferiority?"
"The moment you underestimated human emotions and walked among them, the outcome was decided, Gu Yue." Bai Xu's words struck like a blade.
"If soul beasts could surpass humans, Tang Wulin would be standing here today, proposing an alliance to me."
