DOULUO: THE DRAGON GOD WITH GACHA

Chapter 88: THE AGE OF TRIBULATIONS BEGIN

The tension in the Grand Council Hall was suffocating, every official, scientist, and military leader locked in uneasy silence. The implications of Elder Mu's words hung over them like a storm cloud, heavy with dread.

Then, he broke the silence.

"It's not like we don't have a way out."

Heads snapped toward him, eyes narrowing with confusion, skepticism, and desperate hope.

The Federation President, her silver eyes sharp as a blade, leaned forward. "Meaning?" Her voice was calm, but the weight behind it made the room feel colder.

Elder Mu let the question hang in the air for a moment before he flicked his fingers, shifting the massive holographic display above the council table. The wreckage of Federation warships vanished, replaced by an image of an ancient stone marked with a glowing flame symbol. Alongside it, data streams scrolled rapidly—energy readings, genetic analyses, and research reports.

"This," Elder Mu said, pointing to the rune-inscribed stone, "is a Rune."

Murmurs rippled through the chamber. Though many had already suspected the existence of such objects, the confirmation sent another wave of shock through the assembly.

Elder Mu continued, his tone measured but firm. "Runes manifest in spirit beasts that surpass one hundred thousand years of cultivation. However, they are not merely power sources. They are intrinsic to the spirit beast's very soul."

He paused, watching their reactions. Some officials leaned in with fascination, others recoiled with unease.

Grand Marshal Xu Tian's deep voice cut through the murmurs. "And what does that mean for us?"

Elder Mu's gaze was steady. "It means spirit beasts have gained an irreversible path to godhood. But that is not the only revelation."

He shifted the display once more, revealing footage from the Spirit Pagoda's secret research. The recording was grainy, but the scene it captured was unmistakable—a powerful Titled Douluo standing atop a floating research platform. His spirit soul, a massive Ten Thousand Year Spirit Dragon, hovered beside him, its scales shimmering with an otherworldly glow.

The moment the dragon's cultivation breached the hundred-thousand-year threshold, the sky above them darkened. A deafening crack of thunder split the heavens, and then—

Lightning descended like divine punishment.

The Titled Douluo and his spirit soul screamed as the tribulation struck them both. Their bodies flickered between solid and ethereal states, caught in a battle of sheer survival.

Officials gasped at the brutal display. Even the more seasoned military officers looked pale.

Elder Mu let the footage play a few seconds longer before pausing it, his voice grim.

"This is the new reality. Every spirit soul that reaches one hundred thousand years will undergo a Heavenly Tribulation."

The silence that followed was deafening.

Then, an elderly scientist, his voice shaking, whispered, "Are you saying that soul masters will now have to endure Heavenly Tribulations as well?"

Elder Mu nodded solemnly. "Yes. Since spirit souls are bound to their masters, the tribulation will not test only the spirit soul. It will test them both."

A ripple of panic spread across the room.

A high-ranking officer slammed his fist on the table. "That's suicide! Soul masters will be too afraid to cultivate if they know death awaits them at their next breakthrough!"

"Not necessarily," Elder Mu countered. "If they succeed, they will be reborn."

Confusion flickered across the officials' faces.

The President's silver eyes sharpened. "Elaborate."

Elder Mu gestured toward the frozen holographic image. "Look closely."

The footage resumed, fast-forwarding to the final moments of the tribulation. Just as the soul master and his spirit soul seemed on the verge of annihilation, a brilliant golden light erupted from within them. The raw energy of the Rune pulsed through the air.

Then, the storm ceased.

The soul master fell to one knee, his breath ragged, but his aura—

It surged.

The researchers in the room squinted at the data flashing on-screen. One of them gasped. "His power… it's rising!"

Another adjusted his glasses. "No. It's not just rising. It's evolving."

Elder Mu nodded. "Our findings confirm that those who pass the tribulation undergo a transformation. Their spirit power is purified, their bodies strengthened to near-divine levels. Their overall strength increases exponentially. That soul master, who was already a Titled Douluo, can now fight ten demi-god rank opponents simultaneously. He is still below the level of a true god, but…"

Grand Marshal Xu Tian exhaled sharply. "He's close."

"Yes," Elder Mu confirmed. "This process forges both the body and the soul. If a soul master can evolve all of their spirit souls through tribulation, then the pathway to godhood opens for them as well."

The implications hit the council like a tidal wave.

Some were awed. Some were terrified. Others saw opportunity.

A high-ranking officer frowned. "But what of those who fail?"

Elder Mu's expression darkened. "There is no second chance. Those who fail are erased—body and soul."

The weight of his words settled over the council like a suffocating shroud.

The President tapped her fingers against the table. "Then we must ask ourselves… should we encourage this?"

Silence.

The question was not one of morality. It was one of power.

If they promoted this new method, humanity's strongest soul masters could ascend beyond their wildest dreams. But the risk…

A military strategist spoke carefully. "If we openly promote this, we risk losing many of our best soul masters to failed tribulations. But if we suppress knowledge of it, those who discover it on their own might turn against us for keeping such a secret."

A scientist adjusted his glasses. "Not to mention the consequences of interfering with a divine process. If the heavens have set this as the new path forward, we may not have a choice in the matter."

Elder Mu nodded. "Exactly. This is no mere human decision. The heavens themselves have imposed this trial upon us. Whether we accept it or not, it is now part of our reality."

The President's gaze swept across the chamber, reading the silent debates playing out in their minds. Finally, she exhaled.

"Then we must prepare. If this tribulation is inevitable, we must understand it fully. We will need research teams, observation units, and—" she paused, her eyes narrowing, "—volunteers."

At that, murmurs spread through the room.

Volunteers?

Who would willingly risk complete annihilation?

But Elder Mu smiled faintly. "You will not need to search long."

As if on cue, a new transmission appeared on the holographic display. The council members turned toward the screen as a familiar name flashed across it.

It was from one of the Federation's top-ranked Titled Douluo, a legendary figure known for his pursuit of power.

His message was simple.

"I will take the trial."

The council chamber fell into absolute silence.

The age of tribulations had begun.
