Chapter 24 Ning Fengzhi, I'll Keep Trying
In a vast canyon crackling with lightning, perched above a lake, stood the Dragon Tomb. One after another, massive gray dragon statues rose in a circle, and at a glance, the entire area was crisscrossed with rivers.
In the center of that thick fog lay a blue palace, and only two people were inside: the clan master of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan and his second-in-command, Yu Yuanzhen and Yu Luomian.
"Big Brother, this time the fate of our Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan becoming the number-one sect depends entirely on you," Yu Luomian said respectfully.
"Now that Tang Chen has gone missing, I have no reason to fear that sickly old Tang Zhen. Our clan is determined to claim the title of the strongest sect," replied Yu Yuanzhen, who wore a gold-tinged red robe and exuded a forceful aura. He was seated in a stone chair that looked extremely sturdy; its armrests were shaped like dragons, and the seat was carved with dragon scales, giving it a majestic appearance.
His tone softened a bit. "How are the younger disciples' talents now?"
"The best we have in the second generation is only innate seventh-level soul power; not a single one has eighth-level innate power," Yu Luomian said with a bitter expression. Even with the clan's resources, reaching Titled Douluo would be very difficult for someone with seventh-level innate soul power.
Yu Yuanzhen sighed. He once had high hopes for his own son, Yu Xiaogang, but four years ago, Yu Xiaogang awakened a "pig" soul with half a rank of innate soul power. Despite pouring years of the clan's resources into him, he only advanced to the tenth rank, got a hundred-year soul ring, and the resulting soul skill turned out to be "farting." It was utterly humiliating. Had Yu Yuanzhen not been the clan master, who knew how many people would have ridiculed him for metaphorically wearing a green hat?
Nevertheless, Yu Yuanzhen's eyes sparkled with resolve. This time, the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan had to seize the top spot, thus expanding its power base and accumulating more resources for the future.
Two months later, the three top sects each set out for Wuhun City.
At Moon Pavilion.
In a lakeside courtyard with crystal-clear water, a graceful young woman stood. She wore a silver palace gown that fit her figure perfectly. Each motion of her hands was elegant and natural, as if every move radiated dignified nobility. Golden light glimmered in her palms.
Opposite her stood a young man with tightly closed eyes and a hardened expression. Cold air surged around him, but every time it touched the golden light in her hands, that frosty aura gradually disappeared.
They were Tang Yuehua and Tang Hao.
Over these two months, Tang Hao had stayed at Tang Yuehua's place. He was a rough man who wielded a giant hammer, a disciple of the Clear Sky Clan, and nothing like the noble disciples who studied music and etiquette here. All Tang Yuehua could do was use her noble domain to help Tang Hao suppress his murderous aura—until he could control it himself without leaking the slightest hint of it.
Tang Yuehua gazed at Tang Hao, lost in thought. Ever since her childhood, due to her inability to cultivate—even though she was the clan master's daughter—the clan's direct disciples had often bullied her. Every time, her older or younger brothers would avenge her, putting those bullies in their place. On top of that, Tang Hao was hailed as the Clear Sky Clan's greatest prodigy in a century, constantly breaking its records and now even possessing the Killing God Domain. To her, her "Brother Hao" was the perfect man, towering and peerless.
In these two months together, Tang Yuehua couldn't quite pinpoint when the seeds of her emotions began to grow.
When the golden light faded, Tang Yuehua let out a soft breath. Activating her noble ring still cost her soul power, and she had only rank 9, so she couldn't sustain it for long.
Tang Hao opened his eyes and smiled. "Thank you, Yuehua. After these two months, while I still can't fully master my murderous aura, at least I'm not as liable to lose control."
Tang Yuehua responded, "Brother Hao, you're only at the initial stage of suppressing your killing intent. It'll take at least a year or so to truly master it. Blame my low soul power—I can only maintain the noble ring for a few minutes each time."
"You can't be blamed. It's not your fault you can't cultivate." Tang Hao rose to his feet. "By my reckoning, we have a month left until the re-selection conference for the Seven Great Clans. Heaven Dou City is quite a distance from Wuhun City, so it's time I set out."
Tang Yuehua stood up as well. "Brother Hao, let me come along."
Tang Hao chuckled. "What would a little girl who can't cultivate do there? You're too weak to see anything of a soul master's fight anyway."
Tang Yuehua clung to his arm, pouting. "Brother Hao, please? I can still suppress your murderous aura if you lose control along the way."
Her soft figure brushed against Tang Hao's muscular arm. Hastily, he pulled away, sighing, "Alright, alright, you can come."
With only two days left before the re-selection of the Seven Great Clans, one carriage after another streamed into Wuhun City, practically without pause from dawn to dusk.
"Look—it's a carriage from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan!"
A voice shouted. The crowd turned to see three luxurious carriages, each driven by disciples of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan at the Soul Emperor rank.
Inside one carriage, Bibi Dong lifted the curtain, her big eyes taking in the ancient city. Tilting her head, she remarked, "So this is Wuhun City? It's not like our Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan—though it's also grand, it looks old somehow."
Ning Fengzhi, noticing Bibi Dong's demeanor, smiled and said, "Dong'er, would you like to go down and explore Wuhun City?"
Bibi Dong whipped around and nodded quickly. "Yes, I do!"
"In that case, I'll show you around," Ning Fengzhi answered, a flicker of cunning triumph hidden in his eyes.
But as soon as Bibi Dong hopped off the carriage, she dashed away to look around, not a care in the world.
"Dong'er, don't run off too far!" Ning Fengzhi called, hobbling after her with a cane in hand, looking flustered. He'd intended to walk hand in hand with Bibi Dong to cultivate their relationship, but she'd taken off at once. He'd suffered injuries in the past and wasn't able to move too vigorously. He regretted not disembarking earlier and, regardless of her opinion, taking her hand for "safety reasons."
In another carriage, the Sword and Bone Douluo watched and smiled wryly. They both knew Ning Fengzhi wanted to marry Bibi Dong and bind her to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan. This city tour was likely a ploy on his part, which seemed to have failed. Who would've guessed that, in the soul master world where Ning Fengzhi was famed as an "old fox," he'd be thwarted by an eleven- or twelve-year-old girl?
"Sword, doesn't our clan master look like a certain animal right now?"
"A dog."
The Sword and Bone Douluo couldn't help but laugh. They were likely the only people in the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan who dared joke about Ning Fengzhi so openly.
