Chapter 32: Chapter 32 - Earn Your Strength
When Han Feng woke up, it was already the next morning. His spirit power had been drained, leaving his mind hazy. He shook his head hard to clear the fog.
"Yo! You're awake!"
A cheerful voice rang out beside him. Han Feng blinked and turned to see Dai Mubai, the blond youth, smiling at him. Han Feng frowned in confusion. "Where am I? And why are you here? "
Dai Mubai chuckled. "You forgot? Yesterday you sparred with Teacher Zhao and passed out. After that, Tang San had his turn and also passed. You both passed the entrance test. This is your dorm now. And I'm here because... We're roommates! "
Hearing this, Han Feng's eyes lit up. He leapt out of bed, grabbed Dai Mubai's shoulders, and asked urgently, "Tang San fought Zhao Wuji? How did it go? Did Zhao Wuji knock him out!? "
Dai Mubai thought Han Feng was just comparing who was stronger, so he didn't overthink it. But as soon as Tang San was mentioned, a sour look flickered across his handsome face.
"What's wrong? "Han Feng asked.
"Eh... Nothing much. Just a word of advice: if you value your peace, don't provoke Tang San. Oh—and definitely don't provoke Xiao Wu either. Tang San's... dangerous." Dai Mubai gave an awkward laugh.
Seeing Han Feng still confused, Dai Mubai explained, "Han Feng, you're a beast. You're the only person I've ever seen who could go toe-to-toe with Teacher Zhao at rank 30 and even leave a scratch on his face! "
Han Feng waved it off. "Come on, if Zhao Wuji hadn't held back, I'd be dead by now."
Dai Mubai nodded in agreement. "But Tang San's different. That guy's like a walking trap. He fought with poison, hidden weapons, and some weird footwork. He lasted a full incense stick of time against Teacher Zhao—and even managed to swell his face up with some kind of 'Dragon Beard Needle'! And Zhao Wuji was using soul skills! "
Han Feng didn't seem impressed—he already knew about Tang San's techniques. What he wanted to know was whether Tang San had passed out.
"Yeah, he passed out at the end too," Dai Mubai confirmed. "But still, it's better not to make that guy angry."
That was all Han Feng needed to hear. Knowing Tang San also passed out? Satisfying!
"Hahaha!"
Han Feng laughed heartily, leaving Dai Mubai bewildered. Realizing he'd gone too far, Han Feng quickly covered up, "Ah, nothing! I mean, Tang San doesn't seem like a bad guy. His techniques may be sneaky, but he's still a fellow student. Shouldn't we be happy for each other's strength? "
It was total nonsense, but to Dai Mubai, it sounded noble. He was quietly impressed by Han Feng's open-mindedness.
"You're right. Tang San's not bad. We should focus on helping Shrek thrive! " he agreed, throwing an arm around Han Feng's shoulder. In that moment, he already saw Han Feng as a true friend.
But then, Dai Mubai suddenly grew serious again. "First things first, though—we need to get to the cafeteria! "
"Huh?"
"You'll see! "
Without further explanation, Dai Mubai grabbed Han Feng and sprinted out. Han Feng barely had time to yell, "I haven't even brushed my teeth! "
Despite Dai Mubai's best efforts, they arrived too late. The cafeteria was already empty. Face grim, Dai Mubai let go of Han Feng and yanked out a chubby figure from the crowd.
"You fat bastard! Did you eat everyone's breakfast again!? "
The red-haired, chubby culprit gave an awkward grin, clearly familiar with this scenario. "I couldn't help it... I just couldn't..."
Dai Mubai snorted coldly, letting go of the glutton. "This guy's Ma Hongjun. His martial soul is the Evil Fire Phoenix. Aside from some unmentionable side effects, he's got one hell of an appetite. Guess we're on our own for breakfast."
Han Feng waved it off, not bothered at all. In fact, he wasn't even listening—he was too mesmerized by Ma Hongjun's... roundness. His body was so perfectly plump, so evenly distributed, that Han Feng couldn't help but reach out and press his belly, sending waves through the layers of soft flesh.
In Han Feng's eyes: Perfection!
Both Ma Hongjun and Dai Mubai were stunned. They thought Han Feng was excited because of the "phoenix" part. Ma Hongjun even looked angry—until Dai Mubai whispered something in his ear that changed his mind. He gave up arguing.
Half a minute later, Han Feng looked at Ma Hongjun admiringly and said, "Fatty... You're so round! Earn Your Strength"
Pfft!
Dai Mubai nearly choked. Ma Hongjun's face turned dark—he had a nagging feeling that Han Feng was treating his muscles like some sort of toy.
"Cough! Han Feng, there won't be any classes today. Once the dean finishes speaking, let's go into town and grab something to eat," Dai Mubai said.
Han Feng nodded. "Can't fight hunger."
About ten minutes later, everyone gathered. Zhu Zhuqing remained cold and distant as usual. Xiao Wu whispered with Tang San. Han Feng and Dai Mubai lounged casually, while Oscar, having realized all the school beauties were already "taken," didn't bother shaving and was chatting with Ma Hongjun.
When Ning Rongrong entered, she glanced at Han Feng, visibly relieved he was okay—but she didn't approach. Instead, she gave him a hard glare and sat beside Zhu Zhuqing.
Then Flender arrived. Han Feng had a strange feeling—when Flender looked at him and Tang San, his expression seemed... peculiar?
Han Feng didn't dwell on it. Maybe it was just because he'd made Zhao Wuji lose face.
As Dai Mubai had said, there were no classes on the first day. Flender simply told the five new students to pay 100 gold spirit coins in tuition and told Ning Rongrong and Oscar to run laps. Then he left.
After paying, Dai Mubai dragged Han Feng to the city to eat—just the two of them. Xiao Wu and Tang San clearly wouldn't tag along, and Zhu Zhuqing was even more unlikely. Oscar was off running, and Ma Hongjun... probably had another Evil Fire "issue" to deal with.
Han Feng said he'd brush his teeth first, but when he and Dai Mubai returned, they found someone unexpected waiting.
"Aren't you supposed to be running? "Han Feng frowned at the pink-haired girl in front of him. Remembering the original story, he already felt annoyed.
Dai Mubai stayed quiet, though clearly displeased that Ning Rongrong was ignoring orders.
The pink-haired girl smiled sweetly. "Running is so tiring. You're heading into town, right? I want to come too! I haven't eaten either—I want jade yams and candied hawthorns! "
"You should be running," Han Feng replied coldly.
Ning Rongrong pouted, clearly unhappy. But knowing Han Feng's personality, she didn't give up. She tried pushing him forward and whined, "Come on! Having breakfast with a beautiful girl like me is every guy's dream! Can't you spoil me just a little? "
But when she pushed, Han Feng didn't budge. Looking up, she saw his expression had turned icy.
Dai Mubai's instincts screamed trouble.
And sure enough, Han Feng said flatly, "You should be running. As a support-type soul master, you should understand—physical strength is crucial."
"Can't you protect me? "Ning Rongrong asked softly.
Han Feng didn't waver. "I can protect you for a day, a year—but not a lifetime. You need to be able to protect yourself."
Ning Rongrong's lips trembled. "Is that really... impossible? "
"Of course it is," Han Feng answered bluntly. Even couples couldn't guarantee lifelong protection—just look at Han Dang and Zhang Lingling.
Ning Rongrong flinched, her arms falling limp, eyes turning red as tears streamed down her cheeks.
But this time, Han Feng didn't back down. He quoted Flender from the original novel:
"Have you not realized that you're the weakest one in the whole academy?
Dai Mubai—37th rank at 15!
Ma Hongjun—his martial soul even surpasses the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda!
Oscar—29th-ranked food-type auxiliary master at just 13!
Tang San and Xiao Wu—the same age as you but three ranks ahead.
Zhu Zhuqing—close in rank but with the heart of a true warrior.
What right do you have to slack off? "
But Ning Rongrong couldn't hear it anymore. She glared at Han Feng through tears and shouted, "Fine! I'll run! I'll protect myself! I never want your protection again! "
With that, she turned and ran, leaving a trail of tears behind her.
Han Feng watched her go with a faint smile—he'd done it. He'd snapped her out of it.
"Let's go eat, Mubai."
Dai Mubai stood stunned. As a bystander, he'd seen the whole exchange—but he never imagined such an unyielding, iron-hearted man could actually exist.
