Douluo: My power increases in Two levels

Chapter 23: Chapter 23 - Banter at the Inn

Han Feng never expected the pink-haired girl in front of him to be so fierce. Even in his past life, women this aggressive were rare.

He glanced at her and frowned. Although he'd lived in the Douluo world for twelve years, he still couldn't bring himself to hit a girl. But as a dyed-in-the-wool straight guy, simply letting her off the hook wasn't in his nature either…

After some thought, Han Feng turned to the three bandits and said seriously, "Look, this girl might not look loaded, but trust me, anything you manage to snatch from her would be enough to keep you well-fed for half a year."

"How about this? Pretend I was never here. Go ahead—rob her. Just don't kill her, and I won't interfere. Sound good? "

He was totally deadpan. But the three bandits, already scared out of their minds, were too terrified to listen to his nonsense. All they could do was kowtow furiously, which left Han Feng exasperated—was he really that scary?

Before he could push the joke any further, the girl exploded. She jabbed a finger at him and shouted, "What's wrong with you!? Can't beat me in an argument, so you're trying to sic bandits on me!? "

Han Feng rolled his eyes and retorted, "You're a proper Grand Soul Master and still got held up by three normal guys. That's already embarrassing enough. And if I hadn't stepped in, you'd be lying dead on the road right now. And you're still mouthing off to the guy who saved your life? Who's being unreasonable here? "

Flushed red, the girl was momentarily at a loss for words.

Unfortunately, the three bandits did hear Han Feng mention she was a Soul Master. They instantly panicked and scrambled to her feet, crying and groveling. "Please, Miss! We didn't know who you were! Spare us; we'll never do it again! "

The girl wasn't in the mood. "Scram! "

To Han Feng's amazement, the three actually rolled away like their lives depended on it.

"Well, that's my cue. See you."

Like she wanted nothing to do with the bandits, Han Feng didn't want to get involved with her either. She screamed "spoiled noble lady" from head to toe, and he had zero patience for princess syndrome.

But when he turned to leave without a second thought, the girl grew even more agitated.

"Han Feng, was it? Just wait. I'll find out where you're from. I'll make your family pay for everything you've done to me today! I'll make you regret it! You'll be crying and begging for forgiveness! "

Any guy with even a little emotional intelligence would hear the tremble in her voice—half anger, half on the verge of tears. A few soft words and an apology might've actually smoothed things over—maybe even sparked something more.

Too bad Han Feng wasn't that kind of guy.

He took her threats seriously. And knowing she was from a powerful background, the thought that his loved ones might get caught in her crosshairs made his anger flare.

In a flash, he was in front of her, eyes cold, flame aura igniting. His killing intent crashed down like a wave.

"You want to die? " he whispered.

He wasn't bluffing. As the son of a Great Spirit Arena director, Han Feng had grown up around blood and battle. He might not have killed before, but the murderous aura he'd built was real. That alone was enough to terrify the girl.

She froze. She could feel it—Han Feng really might kill her. All because of a single threat.

In the shadows, two hidden guards silently began to move, closing in cautiously without revealing their presence.

Tears welled up in the girl's eyes. She wasn't expecting this at all. She'd just wanted an apology—she was a sheltered noble girl, used to getting her way. From the moment she left home, everything had gone wrong. She thought Han Feng would relent.

Instead, he threatened to kill her.

Overwhelmed by fear and frustration, her emotions finally broke loose.

"WAAAHHHHH!"

Tears streamed down her face like raindrops. She collapsed to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably.

The two guards froze in shock, nearly blowing their cover. Even Han Feng was momentarily stunned. He hadn't expected her to cry. But a girl's tears were like an instant guilt-trip bomb. Once they appeared, everything was your fault, no matter what.

Han Feng's rage stuttered and began to cool. The fire surrounding him receded. The two guards watching thought he was about to apologize…

But instead, Han Feng frowned and barked, "Why are you crying!? Don't bawl like a girl! "

"I am a girl! " she snapped back instinctively.

"…Tch."

That shut Han Feng up. She wasn't wrong.

He sighed and backed down, the hostility gone. "You threatened my family. If it were anyone else, you'd already be halfway to your grave."

She sniffled, pouted, and glared at him. "So now it's my fault? I wasn't really threatening you. Don't you know girls are delicate? You could've just apologized! Are you stupid!? "

"…Uh…"

Han Feng scratched his head, unsure how to respond. Eventually, he shrugged and muttered half-heartedly, "Alright, alright. I'm stupid. I'm sorry. I'm an idiot."

She was about to lecture him again when she saw him turn around to leave.

"Wait! Where are you going!? "

"Lady, I don't have time to babysit you. I'm headed to Soto City before it gets dark—I'm not sleeping in the woods."

Her ears perked up. "Wait! I'm going to Soto City too! "

She sprinted after him. Han Feng didn't respond, so she had to use a soul skill to keep up.

Thirty minutes later, she was panting beside him. Han Feng gave her a weary look. "Why are you following me? "

She glared. "Why were you running like a dog was chasing you!? "

"…Pretty sure you were the one chasing me."

That shut her up again. Worried she might cry again, Han Feng quickly changed the subject. "Let's just find a place to stay. I'm guessing the noble princess doesn't want to sleep on the street, right? "

She huffed but didn't argue, heading straight for the fanciest hotel in town.

Han Feng was about to part ways, but she grabbed him and dragged him inside.

At the front desk, she gave him a sharp look. "Just so you know, don't get any funny ideas! "

Han Feng rolled his eyes. She was beautiful, no doubt—clearly the type who'd grow up to ruin nations. But right now…

When their eyes met, her face flushed red. Before she could say anything, Han Feng looked at the clerk and said, "Two rooms, please."

Her expression instantly flipped. "What's that supposed to mean!? You don't think I'm attractive!? "

Her mood flipped like a switch—one second shy and blushing, the next furious.

She could accuse him of being improper all she wanted—but how dare he treat her like she wasn't worth his time?

"One room," she snapped, slamming down a bag of gold soul coins. "Thanks."

Her eyes locked on the clerk's, full of stubborn fire.
