Chapter 19: Chapter 19 - Farewell
Seeing the look on Qian Renxue's face shift, Han Feng quickly let out an awkward laugh and cried out in mock protest, "Qian Qian-jie! Don't say such weird stuff! I'm only eight and a half—I haven't even graduated from primary academy yet! Soul Master or not, I've got plenty of time to figure that out. What I really want to understand… is you! "
"I've already told you so much, but you haven't told me anything! That's not fair, is it? "
Faced with Han Feng's sudden 'accusation,' Qian Renxue had no time to linger in sadness—she instantly panicked.
Because Han Feng was right.
He had, in her view, completely opened up to her. Of course, she had no clue about the absurdity of things like twin martial souls—she simply believed he'd shown her everything.
And that made it even harder for her to lie now.
But if she really told him the truth—told him she was Qian Renxue, granddaughter of Qian Daoliu, daughter of the Pope of Spirit Hall, heir to the Elder Hall, and likely the future Empress of the Heaven Dou Empire… oh, and the inheritor of the Seraphim Martial Soul with innate rank 20 soul power...
If she dared say even a fraction of that, could Han Feng even process it?
Worse—what if he let a single word slip?
Qian Renxue had no doubt. Spirit Hall would stop at nothing to hunt Han Feng down. Their century-long plan allowed no room for error.
With that in mind, Qian Renxue could only sigh silently in her heart and apologize inwardly to Han Feng. Then, she spoke—barely convincing even herself.
"Unlike little Feng, I'm not the type to play mind games. I've been open and honest with you from the very start! "
Han Feng simply smiled at her in response, his small eyes locked onto her with an unblinking stare. Qian Renxue's pale face flushed with sudden embarrassment.
He didn't press further. He hadn't brought it up to expose her, anyway. He just wanted to pull her back from the brink of sadness.
Still, Qian Renxue couldn't help but feel a little guilty. After hesitating for quite a while, she let out a defeated sigh, gave a soft humph, and plucked a ring from her finger. Wrapping it in a golden thread, she placed it around Han Feng's neck.
"Don't say I don't care about you," she said. "This ring is a soul tool. Besides basic storage functions, it also lets me sense whether you're safe or not."
"Don't worry—it's not some creepy tracker. It just detects your life force."
"With this, I can always know if little Feng is in danger."
Han Feng's heart leapt with joy. He didn't care much for the safety-sensing feature—in his eyes, Qian Renxue had already peaked. Sure, she was a Soul Sect at just thirteen, but she probably wouldn't ever reach Soul King. Give it a few years, and he might be the one protecting her.
But that storage function? That was something else.
He'd had his eye on Han Dang's soul tool for a long time. If he weren't so young, he'd have already begged Zhang Lingling to use Han Dang's private funds to buy him one.
Qian Renxue continued, "Oh, and if you run into trouble you can't handle, just write me a letter."
"As for where to send it… just address it to the Heaven Dou Imperial Family."
She even winked playfully as she said it.
Han Feng froze for a second, then suddenly understood.
The Heaven Dou Royal Family… So that's who had been backing Qian Renxue all along. It explained everything—from how they could afford to use rare resources to forcibly create a Soul Sect to why she was so reluctant to reveal her identity and why she could casually gift someone a valuable soul tool.
What Han Feng didn't know was that at that very moment, Qian Renxue was silently resolving something in her heart:
Now that I've made this promise… even if it's just for Han Feng, I'll have to make Xue Qinghe "abdicate" sooner rather than later.
As for the risk of exposure?
Honestly, Qian Renxue wasn't even worried.
After all, how many people in the world truly understood the depth of Spirit Hall's power?
If Spirit Hall wanted, they could wipe out any of the Upper Three Sects at any time.
"…So, Qian Qian-jie, you're heading back now? "Han Feng asked hesitantly.
Qian Renxue's eyes flickered. She realized Han Feng had mistaken her for someone from the Heaven Dou royal family—but she didn't correct him. Instead, she nodded and said with a half-truth, "I've been away for too long. Grandpa must be worried."
"But your injuries…"
Before Han Feng could finish, Qian Renxue flicked him on the forehead and huffed, "What, you think you're the only one who can hide things? "
"Your big sister has plenty of tricks up her sleeve. Getting home like this is no big deal. Honestly, if you had tried to attack me earlier, I would've spanked you."
She lifted her slender palm, pretending to strike. Han Feng cooperatively covered his rear, making Qian Renxue burst into laughter.
"…But aren't you worried about me? "Han Feng muttered under his breath, a little reluctant to part ways. "I'm still just a kid. What if I run into a really strong soul beast? Some of them have eyeballs bigger than my whole head…"
Qian Renxue rolled her eyes at him, half exasperated, half amused—earlier, he had been ready to charge at a Sloth Giant Ape. And now he wants to play the helpless child?
"I'm not worried about you. You're a little trickster. Dumb soul beasts like those can't handle someone like you. And don't think I didn't notice—you've been leaving all kinds of markers along the way. Plus, that Hollow King's Flash just now? I'm sure your parents already found you. With them protecting you, do you really need me around? "
Han Feng blushed. He was just about to say something more, but Qian Renxue gently interrupted him.
She reached out, softly ruffling his hair. "Alright now. No banquet lasts forever. Your parents are almost here. I can't let them see me—and you're not allowed to tell them, either. This is our secret, okay? "
Han Feng's eyes lit up. So his parents were on the way! His own sensing range had its limits compared to Qian Renxue.
He no longer tried to stop her.
Qian Renxue unfurled her wings, preparing to leave—she had reverted to her true form now. If Han Dang or Zhang Lingling saw her, it could cause unnecessary trouble.
Just as she was about to take off, Han Feng shouted, "Qian Qian-jie! When will we meet again? "
Qian Renxue thought for a moment, then smiled. "Train hard. When you reach the Soul Emperor or Soul Sage realm… you'll see me again."
In her mind, by the time Han Feng became that strong, Spirit Hall's grand plan would be complete. She'd be free of her burdens.
Han Feng, on the other hand, thought, She's royalty. I'm just a nobody. Without strength, I have no right to stand beside her.
What Qian Renxue couldn't possibly imagine was that for Han Feng, reaching Soul Emperor or Soul Sage was no real challenge.
If anything, he'd achieve it far sooner than she expected.
"And remember," Qian Renxue said, grinning, "this is our secret. Not a word to anyone else! "
She winked again. Han Feng nodded solemnly.
Only then did she soar into the sky and disappear.
As she vanished, Han Feng suddenly felt a pang of loss.
He couldn't deny it—Qian Renxue was the first true friend he'd made in this world. She was stunningly beautiful… genuinely kind… and her status was far beyond anything he could imagine.
For a moment, he seriously considered giving up on trying altogether.
"Feng'er!"
While Han Feng was still zoning out, Han Dang and Zhang Lingling finally arrived—following the signals he had left behind.
Zhang Lingling immediately rushed forward and pulled him into a tight hug. Her beautiful face was streaked with tears. Her usual calm was nowhere to be found—only exhaustion.
Only she knew how agonizing the last day and night had been.
Han Dang also stepped forward, but unlike Zhang Lingling, he didn't hesitate to slap Han Feng hard across the face.
Zhang Lingling frowned but said nothing.
In their eyes, Han Feng had wandered off to the Star Dou Forest to play. If they didn't teach him a lesson now, who knew what danger he might get into next time?
Han Dang hadn't wanted to hit him either.
But the crisp smack left Han Feng feeling a little wronged. Still, he said nothing. There was no way to explain how he'd escaped the Fire Spirit Cat. Doing so would only make his parents more worried.
In the distance, the two bodyguards, Chen Sheng and Wu Fan, didn't react. It wasn't their kid. As far as they were concerned, finding him just meant they could clock out.
This wasn't the place to argue, either. Han Dang snorted coldly and barked, "I'll deal with you when we get home! "
With that, he gathered Han Feng and Zhang Lingling and—with Chen Sheng and Wu Fan protecting them—left the Star Dou Forest at speed.
As for Han Feng's second soul ring?
No one was in the mood for that now.
Han Dang might've scolded harshly, but he still loved Han Feng just as much as Zhang Lingling did. Along the way, he stayed close, eyes constantly scanning the surroundings, terrified Han Feng would disappear again.
Han Feng was deeply moved.
His heart warmed—and a trace of guilt followed soon after.
