Douluo: I'm Invincible

Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Enter

Chapter 43: Enter

Nan Fusheng wasn't sure how Gu Yue would react if she ever discovered Tang Wulin's true identity.

But if the Holy Spirit Church found out, Nan Fusheng could guarantee that their Demon King—whose cultivation was on the verge of breaking through to the god level—would absolutely lose control, and might even descend personally to kill Tang Wulin regardless of the consequences.

That said, Tang Wulin's identity could also be a bargaining chip. Nan Fusheng thought to himself that if he ever had to deal with the Holy Spirit Church in the future, this secret might earn him significant benefits.

"Alright, let's go," Long Hengxu's voice snapped the six students out of their thoughts. He smiled and said, "When I first came to the Eighteen Pillars, I had the same curiosity as you. But after coming here a few more times, the feeling faded. That said, the murals on each of the Eighteen Pillars are still worth appreciating."

Wu Zhangkong said, "Focus your minds. Once you enter the Soul Ascension Platform, you can only rely on yourselves."

Tang Wulin asked in surprise, "Teacher, you're not coming with us?"

Wu Zhangkong replied, "Only soul masters below the fourth ring can enter the primary Soul Ascension Platform."

Long Hengxu nodded. "But don't worry. We'll be monitoring you from the outside. If you encounter danger, you must retreat immediately and return. I'll explain the precautions shortly."

Under Long Hengxu and Wu Zhangkong's lead, the group entered an elevator. Strangely, it didn't ascend—it went downward.

That faint sense of weightlessness told them they were descending deep underground. But exactly how deep, they had no way of knowing.

The Spirit Transferring Pagoda truly lived up to its reputation as the number one organization on the continent. Its resources and power were unmatched. The cost of constructing something like this must have been astronomical.

There were no floor indicators in the elevator, but it took a full three minutes to stop.

When they stepped out, they found themselves in a wide hall with over a dozen staff members. Behind them were metal corridors.

Long Hengxu took out a strange-looking card and handed it to a staff member, who said nothing but gestured for them to follow and led them into one of the corridors.

They walked for dozens of meters before entering another elevator. This one descended again but stopped in just over ten seconds. When the doors opened, they were in a circular room.

The walls were still made of metal, but there was a ring of large soul-guide screens displaying various scenes. The main display showed a green landscape—dense forest and wild jungle.

The staff member turned to them and said, "There are six entry points into the primary Soul Ascension Platform. There's no time limit. If you're in danger, press your distress signal and you'll be pulled back immediately. Now, I'll explain some precautions."

"The Soul Ascension Platform was built by our Spirit Transferring Pagoda over a thousand years, using countless resources and knowledge. It's practically another world, constructed using advanced spatial technology.

So first of all, understand this—it's not purely virtual. It's half-virtual, half-real. The primary platform you'll be using today is mostly virtual, so your lives won't be in danger."

"Inside, you're free to do anything. But your core objective is one thing—survive. The longer you survive, the greater the benefits you'll earn."

"Second, don't think it's completely safe. While only your brainwaves are connected, major shocks can still endanger your neural pathways. If you ever feel like it's too much to bear, press the distress signal immediately and withdraw. Got it?"

"Yes!" Nan Fusheng and the others replied in unison.

The staff nodded. "You'll understand more once you experience it for yourselves. Since this is your first time, you likely won't last very long.

But it will definitely leave a strong impression. Kids, prepare yourselves mentally, and remember—don't panic, no matter what. Soul beasts aren't scary if you handle them well."

After the explanation, the six boys and girls were visibly eager to enter. Even Nan Fusheng couldn't help it. After all, a fully immersive virtual world was something he had never experienced in his past life—it was only something he'd heard about.

Brainwave connection? What could that possibly feel like?

The staff pressed a button, and six metal pods emerged from the wall. These horizontal chambers had grooves shaped to fit the human form—they looked somewhat like coffins.

"All of you, lie down inside."

The six students followed instructions and lay down. The cold metal beneath them made them tense up slightly.

Mechanical suction cups extended from inside the pods and affixed themselves to various parts of their bodies, forming a tight seal.

"It's about to begin. Just relax completely. The scan may feel uncomfortable, but bear with it—it'll pass quickly."

Those were the last words Nan Fusheng and the others heard. The pods slowly slid back into the wall, and darkness enveloped them.

Nan Fusheng felt waves of numbness sweep through his body, as though something invisible was flowing through him. His soul power and blood began to stir, resonating on their own.

The numbness intensified until he felt paralyzed.

He didn't know how long it lasted. Then, suddenly, his body jolted violently. He snapped out of a half-dreamlike state—and found himself surrounded by light.

The metal pod had disappeared, and the numbness had faded. On the back of his hand, a metal-like device had appeared—with a single bright red button.

A distress signal?

Where… is this?

Though he'd mentally prepared beforehand, he hadn't truly grasped the scale of what the Spirit Transferring Pagoda had created until this moment.

Around him were towering trees and thick bushes—no roads, no paths. It was as if he had been transported into a primeval forest.

What was even more astonishing was the vivid realism. He pinched his cheek and felt pain. Every sensation felt entirely real.

So this is the so-called virtual world?

After a brief shock, Nan Fusheng gradually calmed down. He'd only been curious about what such a virtual environment would be like. Now that he'd experienced it firsthand, his curiosity began to fade.

He glanced at his body—his clothes and pants were still there.

That makes sense. If they didn't include clothing, this platform wouldn't exactly be friendly for girls.

Raising his hands, he quietly examined his abilities. Good—his Stealing ability still worked, and he could still sense the Source Castle.

He didn't act recklessly. The staff had made it clear—this wasn't a safe place. Danger could strike at any time.

With that in mind, Nan Fusheng squatted down and began silently observing his surroundings. His spiritual power had reached the Spirit Realm, making his perception far more sensitive.

This was a land brimming with life. A real primeval forest! Could such a place still exist in the Federation?

Humans had deforested so much over the years that even the great Star Dou Forest—the once-largest forest on the continent—now retained less than one percent of its original area.

In his previous life, Nan Fusheng had lived in a small town and could only see forests like this on his mobile phone. Even in this life, this was his first time witnessing such scenery.

Snapping out of his reverie, he approached a large tree. Using the trunk and surrounding foliage for cover, he sat cross-legged and released his martial soul.

On the surface, it appeared he was cultivating. But in truth, Nan Fusheng had activated one of his soul abilities—Parasite's Perspective.

High in the tree above him, a tiny insect crawled along a branch. Once it reached the treetop, it stopped and began to observe the surroundings.
