Chapter 36: The First Grade Zero Class is Established

After breakfast, we went to class. The students were notified that the first-grade classes would hold a grade meeting on the playground.

Although Xie Xie's arm was injured, his condition had stabilized, and he still had to attend class.

Wu Changkong, still stern as ever, led the students of the first-grade Class 5 to the playground to gather.

The current first-grade Class 5 was completely different from before. As they arrived on the playground, gazes from the other first-grade classes instantly focused on them.

Most of those eyes landed on Tang Wulin, Xie Xie, and Gu Yue. As for Nan Fusheng—he received only some attention. After all, in the previous Class 1 battle, Nan Fusheng had been a small, transparent support-type figure.

Soon, all five first-grade classes were assembled. Nan Fusheng noticed that Zhang Yangzi was absent from Class 1. Clearly, with both legs broken, he had a more serious injury. Wang Jinxi, like Xie Xie, wore a bandage on his hand.

At the front of the team, not only was the director of teaching, Long Hengxu, present, but even Dean Yu Zhen had come in person.

Long Hengxu gestured to Dean Yu Zhen and then raised his voice: "Today, we've gathered everyone to hold a temporary first-grade class meeting. There are two main announcements.

"First, due to the special situation of this year's first grade, the winning class will no longer participate in further promotion matches. The first-grade rankings will be adjusted according to the promotion rules. That is: the original Class 5 will now become first-grade Class 1, and the rest will adjust accordingly."

Not allowed to continue the promotion competition? The newly ranked Class 1 immediately started murmuring. Not being able to continue meant that the rewards from cross-level challenges were now unavailable!

Long Hengxu continued: "In light of the outstanding performance by the new first-grade Class 1 in this promotion round, the entire class will be rewarded with one A Meal every day for the rest of the semester."

As soon as these words landed, the murmurs turned into full-blown cheers. What was the concept of an A Meal? A high-grade nourishing meal! Not only was the flavor excellent, but it greatly benefited cultivation. Most families couldn't afford it. A semester of free A Meals for an entire class? That was a massive reward.

Ye Yingluo, now the head teacher of first-grade Class 2, looked particularly sour. Clearly, his mood wasn't great.

"Quiet!" Long Hengxu barked.

The playground fell silent again.

Long Hengxu continued: "Due to the excellent performance by some of this year's students, the academy's board has decided to establish a pilot class in the first grade, selecting the very best to join.

"It will tentatively be called First-Grade Class Zero, and Wu Changkong will serve as the head teacher. Students for Class Zero will be chosen from the current classes. The current seven selected students are:

"From the new Class 1: Tang Wulin, Xie Xie, Gu Yue, and Nan Fusheng.

"From Class 2: Zhang Yangzi, Wang Jinxi, and Wei Xiaofeng.

"In the future, students who perform just as outstandingly may also be invited to join Class Zero."

Class Zero?

What in the world was that?

All the students stared in surprise. In Donghai Academy's history, there had never been such a class! And with Wu Changkong as the instructor—what did this mean?

Tang Wulin and the others were stunned (Nan Fusheng pretended to be surprised), and over in Class 2, Wang Jinxi and Wei Xiaofeng were just as shocked. Both looked over at Tang Wulin's group.

Wei Xiaofeng's eyes were full of hatred and bitterness, while Wang Jinxi's expression was more complicated—his eyes remained locked on Tang Wulin.

Wu Changkong's face showed no emotion. In truth, he had been informed immediately after the board's decision the night before.

Originally, only six members were to be included in Class Zero. Nan Fusheng was not on the list. After all, his combat performance had not been remarkable—truthfully, even letting someone like Wang Billy in would have been more convincing.

But it was Wu Changkong and Dean Yu Zhen who insisted on including Nan Fusheng. Their reasoning: the four students from the former Class 5 were a cohesive team—they enter together, or not at all.

Dean Yu Zhen was troubled. He asked Wu Changkong to give him a more convincing reason—otherwise, it would be hard to persuade the rest of the faculty.

Wu Changkong gave only one sentence: "Even I cannot fully comprehend that child's spirit skill. His spirit still holds great developmental potential."

Dean Yu Zhen was speechless. He knew exactly what kind of person Wu Changkong was. If even he had such confidence in Nan Fusheng—what else could be said? Since Wu Changkong would be leading Class Zero, they had no choice but to agree. After all, it was only one more student.

Even Wu Changkong himself hadn't realized why he did it. Did he really believe Nan Fusheng had that much potential?

At that very moment, hidden within Wu Changkong's own sea of spirit and martial soul, three Time Worms were emitting a soft white light.

They released a subtle frequency—one he couldn't detect—that was slowly influencing his thinking.

Long Hengxu resumed: "Aside from these two announcements, there's also a disciplinary decision.

"In the promotion match between Class 1 and Class 2 yesterday, students from both sides failed to uphold the principle of friendship first, competition second. Four students were seriously injured.

"Thus, all eight participating students will receive an official warning.

"In addition, all potential rewards they could have earned through the competition will be revoked, as a warning to others."

Revoking rewards? That wasn't a real punishment anyway—it seemed there were no actual bonuses for same-grade matches. This announcement was harsh in tone but not in effect.

"Dean, would you like to say a few words?" Long Hengxu turned to Yu Zhen.

Yu Zhen nodded and addressed the crowd loudly:

"Students, I believe you're all wondering why Class Zero was established.

"That's because the students around you who were chosen have already far surpassed the average level of this grade. Continuing to train them at the same pace would only waste their potential.

"This should inspire you all—if you want to stand out, you must work even harder.

"I hope that more of you will join Class Zero in the future and become the finest talents of Donghai Academy."

He concluded, "All students are dismissed. Head teachers, please lead your classes back. For now, Director Long Hengxu will temporarily serve as the head teacher of Class 1 until a new appointment is made.

"Teacher Wu Changkong and the selected students of Class Zero—please remain."

Amid surprise, envy, jealousy, and resentment, the five classes returned to their classrooms. Only the dean, several teachers, and the newly established First-Grade Class Zero remained on the playground.

"Children, all of you come here." Yu Zhen beckoned with a wave of his hand.
