Douluo Dalu: Three-Headed Dragon King

Chapter 189: Tang Hao: My Wife’s Been Revived

Tang San sprinted wildly, following the thread of spiritual connection. After running for nearly an hour, he passed between two colossal ancient trees—so large they would require several men to encircle—and arrived before a unique plant.

It was a massive organism, a dense network of vines fused together. Each vine was as thick as a grown man's waist, shimmering with a crystalline azure glow under the sunlight. The tangled vines formed a tower-like shape that rose ten meters into the air, standing alone amidst the lush Blue Silver Grass like a lonely lighthouse in a sea of green.

This peculiar plant gently swayed, and from the mass of vines two meters above the ground, a hazy human face emerged. It stared at Tang San in shock, radiating a powerful aura that left no doubt—it was an exceptionally strong plant-type soul beast.

"Was it you who called me?" Tang San's gaze burned as he locked onto the massive vine tower. Although the surrounding Blue Silver Grass brimmed with hatred, he sensed no killing intent from this creature.

"Yes, it was I who summoned you. Human, you carry the bloodline of the Empress, and yet your Blue Silver Grass reeks of wickedness. What is the meaning of this?" The vine-woven face moved subtly, its mouth opening to speak with a distinctly human-like expression.

This wasn't spiritual transmission—it was actual spoken language.

Tang San was stunned. He had never heard of a plant-type soul beast capable of speech. Even Grandmaster had said that plant-type beasts were notoriously difficult to cultivate. Yet here it was, speaking plainly before him.

He recalled the changes to his martial soul after attaching spirit rings and quickly replied, "I'm not sure either. It might be because I absorbed five poisonous soul beasts, which may have altered my martial soul's nature."

He left out the part about absorbing life force from both soul beasts and soul masters, the real reason his Blue Silver Grass exuded such malevolence.

The Blue Silver King furrowed its vine-brows but didn't dwell on the evil aura. Instead, it asked, "Do you know where the Empress is now?"

Not long ago, Yu Tianming had rebuilt the cycle of earth, water, fire, and wind, releasing the Blue Silver Empress from the water world. The Blue Silver King had sensed her long-lost aura, but she had only just begun recovering and her precise location remained unknown.

Tang San hesitated, weighing the pros and cons, then chose to answer honestly. "I don't know where my mother went. I came here to ask for your help."

The Blue Silver King sighed softly. "That's fine. Even if I don't know where the Empress is, I will still do everything in my power to assist you. You may have strayed from the right path, but as one of the Empress's subjects, I will help you recover. Ask what you wish."

"I carry the bloodline of the Blue Silver Empress, but my awakened martial soul is ordinary Blue Silver Grass. It has no special abilities, only some potential for evolution."

"In the past, your Blue Silver Empress soul was no different from common Blue Silver Grass because your bloodline had not truly awakened. As the Empress's child, I will help you awaken it further."

"Why are you doing this? Why are you so powerful, and still willing to help me? Is this second awakening meant to strengthen my bloodline again?"

The vines curved into a gentle smile. "I am the King of Blue Silver Grass. To reach the level of the Blue Silver Emperor, I would still need to cultivate for another fifteen thousand years. In this world, there is only ever one true Blue Silver Emperor. The title passes only when the previous one dies. As the Empress's subject, it is my duty to help her child."

Before Tang San could reply, the Blue Silver King continued. "This awakening will stimulate the royal bloodline within you. But since the Empress still lives, I cannot offer my body as a sacrifice to make you the new Blue Silver Emperor. I can only help pull you back onto the right path and enhance your potential."

In response, the surrounding Blue Silver Grass rippled like waves, as if echoing the King's words.

The King's voice turned solemn. "Helping you awaken will cost me tens of thousands of years of cultivation. This is the duty of a loyal subject. As the heir of the Empress, are you willing to forever protect your people?"

Without hesitation, Tang San looked into the King's eyes and nodded firmly. "I am."

The King closed its eyes, and a colossal aura erupted from its towering form. Countless glowing blue motes poured from its body like a sea of starlight, surging toward Tang San.

As they enveloped him, Tang San's spirit rings manifested one by one.

Mandala Snake, Vampire Bat, Human-Faced Demon Spider, Soul-Eating Demon Spider, Iron-Back Centipede. Yellow, yellow, purple, purple, black. Five rings, all from vicious creatures, each one brimming with malice. But now, those blue motes flowed into them, tinting them with a peaceful azure glow.

At the same time, Tang San's Blue Silver Grass martial soul materialized. The black-red vines writhed menacingly, spikes glistening with a sinister sheen. But under the influence of the blue light, the sickly sweetness vanished. The vines grew more supple, their hue shifting gradually from black-red to translucent amethyst, and even the jagged thorns became elegant and glassy.

The King's power transformed Tang San's martial soul entirely. The Blue Silver Grass became stronger, fuller, more vibrant. Tang San's closed eyes betrayed a serene contentment as his soul power surged rapidly.

After half an incense stick's time, the King's glow faded. Tang San's five spirit rings still appeared the same, but the violent energy within them had been purified, leaving no influence on his heart or mind.

More shocking was Tang San's physical transformation.

Previously, due to his father's bloodline and poor childhood nutrition, his appearance was average and unremarkable. But now, with the Blue Silver Empress bloodline fully awakened, his features subtly shifted. These minor changes made him dozens of times more attractive—some would even say beautiful.

The dark influence of animal-based martial souls had altered him. His expressions and movements now carried not just the grace of Blue Silver Grass, but also a hint of alluring charm.

"Child of the Empress, your martial soul has been completely purified. It is now a different Blue Silver King. You will no longer be affected by the vicious nature of your spirit rings. You can walk the path of a good person again," the King said softly to the dazed Tang San.

Bathed in that glowing sea, Tang San felt as if he were back in his mother's embrace. When he opened his eyes, tears blurred his vision—he, who had never known motherly love in either lifetime, was overwhelmed.

"Thank you…"

His voice was no longer shrill and sharp, but soft, with a gentle, feminine lilt—like a peerless beauty speaking tenderly.

He wasn't thanking the King for purifying his martial soul. He was grateful for the warmth, the maternal comfort he had never known.

"It's nothing, child. I serve the Empress, and you are her child. We're all family—there's no need to be so formal."

"Why do you sound so weak?" Tang San frowned at the King's fading voice.

"Your martial soul evolved and your level rose from 54 to 60—that rapid growth came at the cost of over thirty thousand years of my cultivation. I'm not dying, just temporarily weakened. We Blue Silver Grass live long lives. I'll recover eventually."

"That's good." Tang San lowered his gaze, then asked with a hint of doubt, "Can my martial soul evolve further, to reach the same level as my mother's?"

"In this world, there is only ever one Blue Silver Emperor. If I hadn't sensed the Empress recently, I could have sacrificed myself to awaken your royal bloodline. But now…" The King sighed heavily.

Tang San smiled warmly. "It's alright. Even if I can't become the Blue Silver Emperor, I'd feel guilty if you sacrificed yourself for me."

"…Such a good child…"

Tang San chuckled at the compliment. Instead of leaving, he summoned his martial soul. A small tuft of Blue Silver Grass emerged from his palm, its crystal spikes gleaming like amethyst. It looked nothing like its namesake.

"Lord Blue Silver King, you said you burned over thirty thousand years of cultivation. So now… you only have around fifty thousand years left?"

"That's right. I originally had eighty-five thousand years. Why do you ask, child?"

Tang San smiled faintly. His fourth and fifth spirit rings began to flicker. Soul-Devouring Thorns and Blue Silver Blood Armor activated. Instantly, the crystal vines turned blood-red, their spikes glowing menacingly.

"Blue Silver Bind."

"Forceful Drain."

Without warning, Tang San's martial soul surged forward like a giant serpent, launching a surprise attack. Before the weakened King could react, sharp spikes pierced its vine-flesh, sucking out its lifeforce.

The King's voice remained gentle. "Child, I purified your spirit rings. Why would you do this?"

"You can't help me evolve into the Blue Silver Emperor, so I'll find my own way." Tang San smiled coldly. "And now that you're not sacrificing yourself, I don't have to feel guilty."

The King's last strength surged. "Tang San! As long as the true Blue Silver Emperor lives, you'll never ascend! Your cruelty will be remembered by all Blue Silver Grass. You will face retribution!"

"I'll become the Blue Silver Emperor… in my own way."

Smiling, ignoring its cries, Tang San drained the last of its essence. The King's body withered into a black soul ring that floated above the Blue Silver Forest.

She calmly walked forward, summoned her martial soul to shield herself from the other grasses' attacks, and sat cross-legged atop the King's stone seat to absorb the ring.

Half an hour later, Tang San stood with her sixth spirit ring glowing softly. "Strange… the righteous Blue Silver King's resentment seems more intense than my other evil spirit rings…"

With that thought, she bent down and began dissecting the King's corpse piece by piece.

...

An hour later, Tang Hao stirred. Wiping the dirt from his face, he groaned weakly. "The loss of the soul bone aggravated my injuries. I only walked for half an incense stick before I passed out…"

He looked around at the sky, summoned the Clear Sky Hammer, and used it to lift his crippled body. Though slow, his survival instinct pushed him forward without pause.

Before long, he encountered a stunning woman with flowing blue hair. Her every step was light as wind. She exuded quiet strength, her presence like a calming breeze in a storm.

Staring in disbelief, Tang Hao muttered,

"My wife… has been revived?"
