Douluo Dalu: Three-Headed Dragon King

Chapter 159: Jiangzhu, You're Beyond Saving

In the dim dormitory room, two familiar figures—one tall, one short—walked over to where Tang San was lying.

Hearing their footsteps, Tang San quickly wiped his face with his hand, concealing the traces of tears at the corners of his eyes. He didn't want anyone to know about his physical impairment.

"Captain, are you feeling unwell? Should we call a healing-type soul master to take a look?" Despite his usually proud and rebellious demeanor, Dai Mubai was unexpectedly gentle toward the extraordinarily powerful Tang San.

Following behind, Ma Hongjun chimed in like an echo, "Third Brother, you left the Great Spirit Arena so early today. Boss Dai and I were really worried. If you're not feeling well, you should tell us. Don't keep everything bottled up inside."

A healing soul master? Perhaps… maybe they could fix him. That sudden thought jolted Tang San. He lowered the hand covering his eyes. In his excitement, his Purple Demon Eye activated automatically, and the sudden burst of purple light made Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun instinctively shield their eyes.

"Mubai, I really don't feel right. Do you know where Jiangzhu is? I might need her help."

To Tang San, Jiangzhu was a specialized healing-type soul master—able to treat even conditions that regular doctors found impossible. If anyone could heal damaged meridians, surely it would be her.

Dai Mubai, unfazed by Tang San calling him by name, chuckled, "Captain, Jiangzhu's talent may be average, but she trains hard. It's still early evening, so she's probably meditating at the lakeside pavilion."

"Thanks, Mubai."

Tang San threw off his blanket, shoved his feet into his shoes, and rushed out of the dormitory.

"Boss Dai," Ma Hongjun asked while adjusting his rooster crest hair, "what's up with Tang San? The opponents didn't even hurt him in today's match. How did he get injured?"

"Who knows?" Dai Mubai replied calmly. "As long as he gets us to the finals, that's all that matters. If we can beat the Star Luo team, you'll be my right-hand man."

"Thanks, Boss. Once I get my third ring, I'll dominate the skies. When I control the air, no one can touch us—we're a lock for the finals."

In the lakeside pavilion of Blue Tyrant Academy, Jiangzhu sat cross-legged on a delicate cushion with her eyes closed in meditation. Her healing staff rested across her lap, and a gentle green glow flickered and pulsed around her body.

As a civilian and a support-type soul master, she had reached Soul Ancestor rank by the age of twenty through sheer hard work and dedication.

Hearing approaching footsteps, Jiangzhu ended her meditation and slowly opened her eyes.

"Captain, is something wrong for you to come find me at this hour?"

"Jiangzhu, my body feels off. You're a specialist in healing—can you take a look and see what's wrong?" Tang San stood firmly, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.

"Captain, my healing abilities only work on physical and internal injuries. I can't do much for illnesses or poisonings," Jiangzhu replied, troubled by his request.

But Tang San smiled with sudden excitement, replying eagerly, "Then you're exactly what I need."

Jiangzhu said nothing more. She lifted her healing staff, and her three soul rings—two yellow and one purple—shone brightly beneath her feet.

"First soul skill: Healing Halo. Second soul skill: Healing Array. Third soul skill: Divine Restoration."

She unleashed all three skills at once. Radiant green light filled the entire pavilion.

When the light faded, Tang San stood there, his expression dark and eyes bloodshot, filled with a barely restrained frenzy.

"This was clearly a physical injury... so why? Why didn't any of the healing skills work?"

Jiangzhu swallowed nervously. She could already tell what was wrong, and she thought to herself, 'Captain Tang's always been known for brutality. If he finds out I've figured out the extent of his injuries, will he lash out?'

After a long silence, Jiangzhu couldn't suppress her conscience. She spoke in a quiet, trembling voice, "Captain, some of your meridians and internal tissues have been damaged. Not severely—but the damage is complicated. It's not that I'm incapable… it's just that you're beyond saving. Even the most powerful healing soul master couldn't fix you."

As her words landed, Tang San's expression grew darker. A faint killing intent filled the pavilion.

Jiangzhu shivered violently, her voice trembling, "C-Captain, while I can't heal you, there may still be one last hope..."

"Speak."

"The Nine-Heart Begonia. That martial soul is a miracle. It only has one healing skill, no matter how many soul rings it gains, but that one skill is unbelievably powerful—it can even regenerate limbs. It could definitely heal your injuries."

At that, Tang San immediately thought of Ye Lingling from Heaven Dou's main team. His previously lifeless eyes lit up with hope. With a target in mind, the malice in his eyes vanished, replaced by calm determination. His tone softened.

"Jiangzhu, I hope you'll keep today's matter to yourself. Understand?"

Jiangzhu nodded hurriedly, "Captain, Heaven Dou's main team has been seeded into the finals. The Nine-Heart Begonia user is probably already at Spirit City. We'll likely encounter her during the final tournament."

"Thank you. I will see Ye Lingling in the finals…"

A month later, the Heaven Dou City preliminaries neared their end. Twenty-eight matches had been held—twenty-six already completed, with just two remaining.

The top teams were as follows:

1st - Thunderclap Academy: undefeated in 26 matches, led by level-60 Yu Tianheng.

2nd - Tie between Blazing Academy and Tianshui Academy: 25 wins, 1 loss (both lost to Thunderclap).

4th - Blue Tyrant Academy: 24 wins, 2 losses (defeated by Thunderclap and Divine Wind Academy).

5th - Divine Wind Academy: 23 wins, 3 losses (lost to Thunderclap, Tianshui, and Blazing due to Feng Xiaotian throwing the match).

These five teams had essentially locked in the five qualifying spots. As for Elephant Armor Academy, backed by the Elephant Armor Clan? Their deliberate losses to the other elemental academies cost them a place in the finals.

Today, Blue Tyrant Academy would face Blazing Academy.

"Round one, central arena: Blue Tyrant Academy versus Blazing Academy!" the announcer shouted as both teams marched into the arena.

The stands erupted into thunderous noise—some cheering for Blazing, others cursing Tang San's brutality. But with nerves of steel, Tang San ignored the taunts, his eyes gleaming as he observed the slowly approaching opponents.

Blue Tyrant's lineup: Tang San, Dai Mubai, Huang Yuan, Jing Ling, Xiao Wu, Ning Rongrong, Oscar.

Blazing Academy's team looked to be in their early twenties.

Leading them was Huo Wushuang—average-looking and medium-built, but with intense eyes. His martial soul, the Fire Horned Tyrant Dragon, was similar to Liu Erlong's Fire Dragon—though his leaned heavily into explosive power.

With a soul power of 42, Huo Wushuang's frontal combat ability was formidable. Dai Mubai, without Qirong Tongtian Chrysanthemum buffs, was physically slightly weaker than him.

Beside him was a level-38 fire-leopard-type power soul master—stronger than Huang Yuan, whose martial soul was the Lone Wolf.

Following them were twin brothers, Huo Yun and Huo Yu—both with Fire Crane martial souls and level 39 soul power. Like Ma Hongjun, they were agility-based fire attackers. The last three were Huo Wu and two burly men who, though appearing like power types, were actually support-type soul masters with Fire Star martial souls.

The referee stepped forward. "Both sides, line up and bow."

The 14 contestants lined up in two rows and bowed. Dai Mubai locked eyes with Huo Wushuang, while Tang San naturally faced off with Huo Wu. Sparks flew before the match even began.

"You may release your martial souls!" the referee called out again.

In a flash, soul rings erupted into view—both teams boasting optimal configurations. Coincidentally, both had two Soul Ancestors and five Soul Elders. Blazing had a slight edge in raw power. More critically, all seven of their members were fire-element soul masters, raising the arena's temperature with their combined presence.

"Begin!" the referee commanded.

Dai Mubai lunged forward, shaking the ground. Huang Yuan followed closely, forming a tiger-and-wolf duo against Blazing's Fire Dragon and Fire Leopard.

Blazing didn't lag behind.

A resounding dragon roar burst from Huo Wushuang's mouth as his martial soul activated. His body swelled, skin coated in red-hot scales, a single white horn sprouting on his head, a flaming tail emerging behind. His form mirrored Liu Erlong's transformation.

The two support soul masters generated orbs of fire that infused into their teammates, intensifying the flames on each.

From the get-go, Blue Tyrant was on the back foot. Though Dai Mubai and Huang Yuan held the front line, scorch marks and burnt fur hinted at their struggle. Jing Ling and Xiao Wu, powered by flying mushroom sausages, struggled to fend off the fire crane twins.

Both teams had similar formations—one control, two power, two agility, two support—making for an exciting and balanced showdown that kept the audience cheering.

Just as the battle began to stall, Ning Rongrong finally made her move.

With her martial soul now evolved into the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda, her buffs were stronger and more energy-efficient. In an instant, light surged into her teammates.

Bolstered by the sudden enhancements, Blue Tyrant rebounded. Their full strength forced Blazing Academy into retreat.

Then Tang San, who had been watching until now, struck.

Thick, blackish-red Blue Silver Grass, covered in barbed thorns, surged forward like writhing worms toward the enemy.

The crowd exploded in fury.

"What kind of disgusting plant is that? It looks like literal crap!"

"That guy Tang San is a savage! If someone doesn't dodge in time, Blazing Academy will be in deep trouble."

"Monsters like him should be arrested by Spirit Hall! How is he even allowed in the tournament?"

But Huo Wu was prepared. Seeing Tang San move, she calmly raised both hands. Two orange flames flared in her palms, growing over a meter tall.

This was a signal.

Blazing Academy's two support soul masters lit up with fire and poured their third soul skills into Huo Wu alone. The orbs of fire fused into her, and the flames in her hands grew brighter—turning from orange, to blue, to dazzling white.

"Fiery—Dance—of—the—Sun!"

A massive white fireball formed above Huo Wu's head, blazing like a second sun.

From the VIP booth, Ning Fengzhi's expression shifted slightly. "Such controlled heat with no external overflow... This little girl's martial soul control is terrifying. She's condensed three people's soul power into one move. Blue Tyrant is in trouble."

Tang San's face darkened. His Blue Silver Grass was especially weak to fire, and even before Huo Wu's skill hit, he could feel immense pressure. He quickly increased the vines' movement speed.

But it was too late.

The massive white fireball crashed toward the densest cluster of vines—directly where Tang San stood.

From below, the referee cried out, "Soul Master tournament rules forbid killing!!"
