Douluo Dalu: Three-Headed Dragon King

Chapter 154: Old Friends Sever Ties, The Platinum Bishop’s Recruitment

"Damn it!"

With a loud roar, Zhao Wuji flung his robe to the ground, rolled up his sleeves past his forearms, and strode directly toward Yu Xiaogang.

Today marked the opening ceremony of the Soul Master Tournament, and with only the match between Blue Tyrant Academy and Heaven Dou Imperial Second Team having taken place, many spectators had already left the arena. However, sensing Zhao Wuji's intense aura, countless eyes turned back to the participants' seating area.

"Yu Xiaogang, screw your mother!"

Zhao Wuji stormed over to a stunned Yu Xiaogang and bellowed, "You're just a mere rank 29 Grandmaster who can't even master your own cultivation, yet you dare to act high and mighty here?! You even stole my research and claimed it as your own? Let me tell you, if you don't make things right today, I'll make sure you leave this arena lying down!"

His voice was laced with soul power, shaking the stands and causing a wave of murmuring to erupt among the audience.

Even Emperor Xue Ye, seated in the VIP section's front row, wore a strange expression. 'So that's why this so-called "Master" could publish a theory on Martial Soul Evolution—it was plagiarized? If he really had the ability, why would he be known across the Soul Master world as a failure?'

Yu Xiaogang, pale and shaken, stepped back until he was up against the railing, stammering, "Wu... Wuji, let me explain. The Martial Soul Evolution Theory... it was inspired by you, but the conclusions were still my own..."

Before he could finish, Zhao Wuji kicked him squarely in the chest, launching him from the seats down onto the dueling platform with a heavy thud.

The Great Soul Arena of Heaven Dou City was an imposing structure; even the lowest spectator row stood several meters above the main stage. Yu Xiaogang, weak in physique, groaned in pain, uncertain how badly he was hurt.

"I heard you with my own ears repeating the theory I developed! And now you dare deny it?" Zhao Wuji roared, leaping down from the stands to confront him once more.

"Wuji, we've been friends for years. Over a mere theory, do you really need to do this?" Flender appeared in a flash, wings spread wide, using his Owl Martial Soul to fly down and retrieve Yu Xiaogang, placing him by the healing soul masters on the sidelines.

Flender's Four-Eyed Owl was no ordinary soul; its twin sets of eyes gave it unmatched dynamic vision during high-speed flight, earning him his role in the famed Golden Iron Triangle as the "Winged Corner."

Standing proudly atop the railing, Flender adopted a composed stance. Zhao Wuji scowled, "Now you want to talk about being the bigger man? When this trash stole my theory, where was your righteous talk then?"

The crowd, sensing the drama between two Soul Saints, booed again.

Yu Xiaogang, ever obsessed with pride, clutched his face in despair. 'Zhao Wuji, you reckless brute, you actually struck me in front of all these people... After all these years, is this how I gain fame again?'

Even Tang San turned red with embarrassment. Ashamed of his "adopted father" being accused of academic theft, he didn't even check on Yu Xiaogang's injuries and instead quietly exited the arena.

Zhao Wuji was far from done. With countless spectators still watching, he continued to argue without shame.

"No more words. It's clear now—you never saw me as a brother. If that's the case, then from this day on, we're done. Our brotherhood is over!"

"Old Zhao, you—"

"Enough!!"

A thunderous voice cut through the chaos.

The Platinum Bishop, seated beside Emperor Xue Ye, could no longer watch the farce unfold. With a single step, he appeared next to Zhao Wuji.

Tall and imposing in his crimson robe, the Platinum Bishop looked like a red tower standing beside the stocky Zhao Wuji.

He glared coldly. "Immovable King Zhao Wuji, are you saying the Martial Soul Evolution Theory that Yu Xiaogang published was actually your work?"

Platinum Bishops of Spirit Hall all possessed Soul Douluo-level strength. Only now did Zhao Wuji remember he was still a wanted man to Spirit Hall, and his heart sank. But he forced composure and replied, "Yes. I was the one who first discovered it through my student, Tang San."

The Bishop's voice grew colder. "Zhao Wuji, you killed people in public twenty years ago and are still on Spirit Hall's wanted list. How dare you show yourself here? Are you tired of living?"

"I—"

He raised a hand, cutting him off. "If you're willing to join Spirit Hall, we'll pardon your crimes. And if you truly have research talent, you'll receive significant resources and support from Spirit City."

The crowd went silent.

Even Flender and Yu Xiaogang were stunned.

From the VIP box, Emperor Xue Ye's face twisted with regret. 'Damn that Salas, always scheming. He's recruiting Zhao Wuji right under my nose! If Spirit Hall gains the Martial Soul Evolution knowledge, what happens to my hopes for the Heaven Dou Royal family's bloodline?'

With the opening ceremony officially over, and the conflict resolved, Bishop Salas said nothing further. He simply took Zhao Wuji and left, leaving Emperor Xue Ye to stew in frustration.

As the sky turned red with dusk, Flender escorted the now-healed Yu Xiaogang back to Blue Tyrant Academy.

Just as they gathered the team for a debriefing, Yu Tianming entered the meeting room with Xue Qinghe in tow.

Though Yu Tianming wore his usual calm smile, the solemn look in Xue Qinghe's eyes caused a ripple of unease among the team. Could it be the Tournament Committee had decided to punish them?

Tang San, who had drained his opponents' life force, and Flender, who had caused a scene, both grew uneasy.

Sensing the tension, Yu Tianming smiled playfully. "Relax. You haven't broken any rules. I'm only here to inform you—your next opponent in the qualifiers is very strong. You won't win. I recommend forfeiting to conserve your strength. As long as you place in the top five, you'll move on to the promotion round."

The team exchanged bewildered glances. With Tang San on their side, how could any team be stronger? They'd just stomped Heaven Dou's second team, after all.

Xue Qinghe followed up solemnly. "Your next match is against the Elephant Armored Academy, founded by the sixth-ranked sect of the Seven Great Clans—Elephant Armored Sect. All seven participants are direct disciples, and three have already reached rank 40. Do you think you can defeat them?"

Tang San's expression immediately darkened.

After learning of his heritage as a Clear Sky Sect heir, he had done his homework on the Seven Great Sects. Just like the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect was the strongest support sect, the Elephant Armored Sect was the most fearsome defense sect.

Their inherited martial soul was the Diamond Mammoth—a powerhouse focused entirely on brute strength and impenetrable defense. Without a Titled Douluo of their own, they were "only" ranked sixth. But that didn't make them any less terrifying.

Tang San's Blue Silver Grass needed to pierce skin to be effective, and their most explosive attacker, Ma Hongjun, didn't even have a third soul ring yet. In short, no one could breach the Elephant Sect's defenses.

Seeing the mood drop, Xue Qinghe sighed, "Those seven Elephant disciples take up half the stage. There'll be nowhere to dodge. Forfeiting means losing one point, but it preserves your strength for future matches..."

"No!" Yu Xiaogang cried. "There are other strong teams ahead. If we want to win, we have to test ourselves against the toughest!"

After losing face earlier, he now pinned his hopes on Tang San proving the value of his theories.

Flender frowned. "Little Gang, don't lose sight of strategy. If they get hurt now, they'll be worthless later."

The team fell into heated discussion.

Growing impatient, Yu Tianming looked to Tang San. "You're the captain. You decide—fight or forfeit?"

Tang San glanced at his anxious master. A sharp gleam flashed in his eyes, followed by a confident smile. "We'll fight. Victory is our goal—but more than that, we're here to improve through real combat. Retreating now would crush our morale."

Flender panicked. "You're being reckless! They've got three Soul Ancestors. You're all just Soul Elders. You can't win!"

But Yu Xiaogang's expression turned serious. "Tang San, you've always been steady and mature. Have you come up with a plan?"

Tang San nodded. "I have an idea... though not a guaranteed victory."

Flender asked, "What plan could possibly beat the Elephant Sect?"

A flicker of red crossed Tang San's eyes. His lips curled into a sly smile. "Today's match pushed me to rank 40. If I can obtain my fourth soul ring in two days—and break even a tiny part of their defense—I can win."

"Forty?!"

The room erupted in shock.

He had only reached rank 30 at age thirteen. A year later, he was now rank 40? That growth was monstrous.

Trying to justify it, Tang San said, "Maybe it was Master's guidance—choosing the right soul rings helped me unleash Blue Silver Grass's potential and made all my hard work pay off."

Yu Xiaogang scratched his head and mused, "Time to write 'Core Competency #12: Accumulation Explodes.'"

Dai Mubai was thrilled. "Captain, what are we waiting for? Go get that soul ring!"

Having once resisted Tang San's authority, he was now fully convinced and eager to rely on him to defeat his own brother, Davis.

Tang San nodded and turned to Flender. "The closest place is Sunset Forest. I'll need your help, Teacher."

Flender smirked. "Of course. Let's just hope we find something worthwhile in three days."

As the two of them departed, Yu Tianming stood behind with a knowing, amused smile.
