Douluo Dalu: The World Suppressing Douluo

Chapter 4: Innate Full Soul Power and Useless Martial Soul

Looking at Lin Ye and Tang San, Su Yuntao felt a bit of anticipation in his heart.

However, as a respected Battle Spirit Grandmaster, Su Yuntao maintained a calm expression, hands behind his back, and spoke in an even tone to the children who had been frightened into sitting on the ground.

"Didn't I tell you already? There's nothing to be afraid of. This is a normal phenomenon when a Beast Martial Soul manifests. If any of you become Beast Martial Soul Spirit Masters in the future, you will also have similar abilities."

Hearing Su Yuntao's words and thinking about the many strange and legendary Martial Souls, the children finally regained their composure and cautiously stood back up.

However, Lin Ye couldn't help but feel a bit speechless at Su Yuntao's explanation.

He wouldn't deny that the Beast transformation displayed by Su Yuntao might indeed be related to the Wolf Martial Soul he mentioned earlier. However, the mere change in physical appearance wasn't what had caused the fear. The real shock had come from Su Yuntao's roar and the strange energy that surged through the area.

Surely that wasn't a natural effect of having a Beast Martial Soul, right?

Having cultivated the Nine Yang Divine Skill, Lin Ye felt that a Spirit Master's spirit power should be similar to his own inner energy (Qi). There was no way such an energy surge could happen without reason.

Su Yuntao was clearly hiding something. But why did he roar like that? Was it a test?

A light flashed in Lin Ye's mind.

He glanced at Su Yuntao and noticed that his gaze toward him and Tang San had been different from how he looked at the other children. There was an unmistakable glint of satisfaction and approval.

Lin Ye felt more confident in his guess.

"Alright, let's begin the Martial Soul awakening."

As Lin Ye speculated in his mind, Su Yuntao spoke up after confirming that the children had calmed down.

"You, step forward."

Su Yuntao gestured toward the first boy on the left, motioning for him to walk into the hexagram formation made of six black stones in front of him.

Though hesitant and a bit scared, the boy cautiously stepped into the hexagram.

Once the boy was in place, Su Yuntao swiftly began to move his hands, sending out six green streaks of light that shot into the six black stones on the ground.

Suddenly, countless golden light particles erupted from the stones and surged into the boy's body, filling the hexagram.

"Close your eyes and sense the Martial Soul within you."

Following Su Yuntao's instruction, the boy obediently closed his eyes as though trying to feel something within him.

Time passed slowly as everyone watched in curiosity.

After several seconds, the golden light particles entering the boy's body began to dwindle, and Su Yuntao's voice cut through the silence.

"Summon your Martial Soul!"

Startled awake, the boy suddenly opened his eyes. His right hand stretched out instinctively, and in his palm, a small sickle—seemingly hovering between reality and illusion—appeared.

"A sickle? An Instrument Martial Soul, huh... Barely has some attack power," Su Yuntao muttered with a slight frown. Still, he reached for the deep blue crystal ball on the nearby table and handed it to the boy.

"Place your hand on it. Let's test your spirit power."

Obediently, the boy placed his left hand on the crystal ball. However, nothing happened.

"No spirit power. You don't have the qualifications to become a Spirit Master," Su Yuntao sighed, his tone tinged with disappointment.

"I... I can't become a Spirit Master?" the boy muttered, his face falling as he trudged out of the Martial Soul Hall, crestfallen.

Watching the boy's departing figure, Su Yuntao shook his head sympathetically.

It was difficult for ordinary people to awaken a strong Martial Soul in the Douluo Continent. Having overseen numerous awakenings, Su Yuntao was already accustomed to this outcome.

"Next."

——

After the first boy, several others stepped forward for their awakenings.

From sickles to wooden staffs, hoes, and pitchforks—mostly tools used for farming—one child even awakened the Blue Silver Grass, which Su Yuntao disdainfully labeled as a "useless Martial Soul."

Having witnessed five or six awakenings, Lin Ye quickly grasped the prerequisites for becoming a Spirit Master.

Awakening a Martial Soul was only the first step. Afterward, one had to touch the blue crystal ball. Only if the ball emitted light would one be deemed qualified to become a Spirit Master.

'But how did the crystal ball light up?'

According to Su Yuntao, Lin Ye understood that it depended on whether the individual had spirit power.

Martial Souls, it seemed, varied in strength. The other children in the village had awakened weak Martial Souls—mostly farming tools or the Blue Silver Grass—so they couldn't generate spirit power. Only strong Martial Souls could produce spirit power and qualify someone to become a Spirit Master.

Yet, spirit power appeared to be tied too closely to the Martial Soul. It was far too limiting.

From what Lin Ye had learned, spirit power seemed to share similar effects to his own Nine Yang True Qi. Could his True Qi be considered a form of spirit power? Or even replace it?

This thought sparked curiosity in Lin Ye.

"Next!"

When the third-to-last child left the hall dejectedly, it was finally Tang San's turn. Su Yuntao couldn't help but feel a flicker of anticipation.

Out of all the children, only Tang San and Lin Ye had reacted differently to the earlier test. These two seemed the most likely to possess the qualifications of a Spirit Master.

"Step forward," Su Yuntao instructed.

Tang San took a step forward and entered the hexagram formation.

Su Yuntao quickly dispelled his stray thoughts and began to move his hands, channeling green light into the black stones.

As before, countless golden particles erupted from the stones and surged into Tang San's body.

"There's hope..." Su Yuntao thought as he watched the scene unfold. Unlike the others, the golden particles continued to flow into Tang San for over a minute without stopping. Su Yuntao's anticipation only grew.

Finally, the golden light began to fade. "Summon your Martial Soul!" Su Yuntao urged, his voice tinged with impatience.

Tang San paused briefly, then extended his left hand.

With a flash of light, a small, glowing blue plant appeared in Tang San's palm, gently swaying.

"What? Blue Silver Grass?"

Su Yuntao was in utter disbelief.

How could this child, who had absorbed spirit energy for so long, have awakened such a useless Martial Soul?

Despite his reluctance to accept it, the evidence was right before him. Su Yuntao felt deeply disappointed.

"Test your spirit power."

Sighing, Su Yuntao handed the crystal ball to Tang San.

Tang San placed his right hand on the crystal ball.

Su Yuntao expected nothing, but suddenly, the crystal ball burst into brilliant light.

"What? How is this possible... Innate full spirit power?!" Su Yuntao's face turned pale in shock.
