Douluo Dalu: Starting Evolution as the Man-Faced Demon Spider

Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Baishui City

"Looking for my companions?"

The human Spirit Ancestor tensed up the moment he heard those words.

Did they really make too much noise?

Had they accidentally disturbed one of the terrifying beasts of the Star Dou Forest?

His expression turned hesitant, and he seemed to struggle internally.

If he led this mysterious entity to his companions, the Spirit Hall would never forgive him.

But if he refused…

"Take me there."

That mysterious voice echoed in his mind again.

His body shuddered, and cold sweat poured down his face like he had just walked through a rainstorm.

How could he dare to refuse?

"Y-yes! Lord, please spare me! I-I'll take you there immediately!"

Without hesitation, he scrambled to his feet, hurrying ahead like a terrified servant.

He led the way toward the edge of the marsh, while Fang Chang followed closely behind in his stealth mode, maintaining a five-to-six-meter distance.

Driven by pure survival instinct, the heavily injured Spirit Ancestor actually picked up his pace—so much so that even Fang Chang almost struggled to keep up.

For someone so injured, he didn't seem injured at all.

They traveled for about half an hour before arriving at a cave near the heart of this region.

Inside, there were half-burned piles of firewood and scattered tools left behind by humans—clear evidence that this had been a hideout for human Spirit Masters.

Fang Chang surveyed the empty cave and quickly confirmed—

This guy wasn't trying to trick him.

But the Spirit Ancestor himself seemed to be getting more and more nervous.

When he left, this place had been full of people.

Now, it was completely deserted.

The traces left behind suggested his companions had been gone for a while.

Had they abandoned him?

Or worse—

Would this mysterious entity now turn its wrath on him?

"M-my Lord… my companions seem to have left… P-please allow me to search for them!"

His voice trembled, speaking to what seemed like empty air—the sight was almost comical.

"Hurry up."

Fang Chang's telepathic voice resounded again.

The Spirit Ancestor rushed outside.

He placed his thumb and middle finger together and let out a sharp whistle that echoed through the dense forest.

The sound bounced off the trees, spreading far and wide.

But—

No response came.

Still unwilling to accept it, he whistled again.

No reply.

At this point, he finally gave up.

Defeated, he returned to the cave and bowed toward the empty air, stammering:

"L-Lord, it s-seems my companions have truly left… B-but please don't be upset! I-I can take you to other places to search!"

"Go."

Fang Chang's command echoed once more.

The Spirit Ancestor stumbled out of the cave, hastily chose a direction, and ran north.

Fang Chang calmly followed, his spider legs moving swiftly yet silently behind him.

This path seemed to lead toward the outermost region of the Star Dou Forest—the area beyond the fourth ring.

After about two more hours, the two arrived at a river about ten meters wide—one of the boundaries of the outer Star Dou Forest.

But something was different—

A small bridge had been built over the river.

The Spirit Ancestor examined the river for a moment, then hurried across the bridge, moving further north into an open field.

Here, several tents had been left behind, still standing under the night sky.

Inside, half-eaten dry rations and scattered supplies remained.

It looked like whoever had been here had left in a hurry.

The Spirit Ancestor grew even more anxious.

His face fell as he turned around, speaking in a hushed, trembling voice like a palace eunuch awaiting punishment from the emperor.

"M-My Lord… it appears they've all left…"

"I… I think they might have returned to Baishui City."

Baishui City…

A human settlement?

Fang Chang pondered this.

He had been in this world for so long, yet he had never stepped foot in a human city.

He had only known the Star Dou Forest.

But he had always been curious about human civilization.

Now, with his current strength and his stealth abilities, he finally had the chance to see for himself.

More importantly—

Tang San and his team should still be training with Grandmaster.

They were preparing for the Spirit Master Tournament.

Before the competition, they would enhance their abilities by consuming the Immortal Herbs from the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well.

If they obtained those herbs, their growth would be unstoppable.

But—

What if he got there first?

If he emptied the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well before Tang San arrived, he would effectively steal their greatest opportunity and limit their future potential.

His eyes flashed with determination.

"Take me to Baishui City."

The Spirit Ancestor panicked even more.

He still had no idea what this mysterious being wanted.

But he could tell—it wouldn't be anything good for humans.

Was this entity planning to destroy Baishui City as a warning to the Spirit Hall?

He swallowed hard.

He didn't dare to think any further.

"You refuse?"

That chilling voice in his mind made his scalp go numb.

After a moment of hesitation—

He nodded.

Without a word, he turned and continued walking northeast toward Baishui City.

After a long journey, they arrived at the forest's outermost entrance.

Several Spirit Masters guarded the area, but they were only Rank 20 to 30 level.

When they saw the Spirit Ancestor returning from the forest, they bowed respectfully and stepped aside, allowing him through.

Looking at the city looming ahead, the Spirit Ancestor's emotions were complicated.

But in the end, he stepped forward.

Fang Chang seized the opportunity, sneaking past the guards and into the city.

About a minute later, the guards resumed their posts at the entrance.

By then, Fang Chang was long gone.

Baishui City was less than five kilometers from the Star Dou Forest.

As soon as Fang Chang entered, he dragged the Spirit Ancestor into a secluded alley—

And pierced his chest with a spider leg.

Only one person knew he had left the Star Dou Forest.

If this Spirit Ancestor was allowed to live, he would report everything to the Spirit Hall.

It was safer to kill him.

By the time Fang Chang finished, dawn was breaking.

His stealth ability was about to wear off.

He quickly hid inside an abandoned building.

What he didn't know was—

Just one day before he entered Baishui City, the Spirit Hall had officially announced the end of the Soul Hunting Tournament.

Many high-ranking figures had just left the city.

But—

At sunrise, a team of three powerful Spirit Douluo entered the Star Dou Forest.

Their mission?

To capture the mutated Man-Faced Demon Spider… alive.
