Chapter 174: 170. Keep The Boundaries
The Pope's hall was quiet.
Ling Yuan Douluo led Qian Renjue toward inside
At the broad round table, the other elders had already left, leaving only Bibi Dong behind.
Ling Yuan Douluo stayed outside.
Qian Renjue walked quickly toward Bibi Dong, who was resting at the table.
His footsteps slowed, becoming lighter.
"Jue?"
Bibi Dong was incredibly perceptive.
Hearing the faint sound of footsteps, she lifted her tired yet beautiful face.
Her phoenix eyes were lazy, softened with warmth when she looked at her son
"Mom, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell again?"
Qian Renjue frowned and walked behind her, placing his hands gently on the sides of her head.
"It's nothing, I'm just tired."
Bibi Dong smiled and leaned back, enjoying his massage
"…"
Qian Renjue's movements became even more gentle.
Recently, Bibi Dong had often not been spending the night in her bed, appearing in the mornings with her soul power depleted, and sometimes got light injuries.
Her mood had also been unstable, and, she would often embrace Qian Renjue to rest
Qian Renjue wasn't sure which trial Bibi Dong was undergoing in the Rakshasa God Assessment, but he pondered quietly.
A faint layer of frost gathered on his hands, and cool wisps of energy flowed into her, bringing a refreshing clarity to Bibi Dong.
"…"
Neither mother nor son spoke.
Bibi Dong closed her eyes to rest, leaning against Qian Renjue's embrace.
As he inhaled the faint fragrance in the air, his gaze fell upon the table, his expression slightly stiffening.
Before Bibi Dong were two familiar portraits: one of a blue-haired, blue-eyed woman with a veil, standing on the shore of a lake, and the other of a woman with purple hair, green vertical pupils, and a green scale on her forehead, smiling on a swing with a snake tail coiled beneath her.
They were none other than Ye Lingling and Dugu Yan.
Qian Renjue stopped what he was doing.
Bibi Dong opened her eyes, noticing the paintings on the table, feeling slightly awkward.
She had been so tired that she forgot to put them away after reading the letters.
Feeling a bit guilty, she said, "Jue, I just couldn't resist; the letters were too thick."
She turned her face up and grasped the fabric of Qian Renjue's robe, her eyes showing a hint of apology.
"Heh, it's nothing. It's not like there's anything shameful about it," Qian Renjue chuckled, shaking his head.
He gently smoothed out her slightly furrowed brows, which looked fatigued from weariness.
This kind of thing had become so routine over the years that he didn't see the need to fuss about it.
"Hmm, I'm glad you're not upset," Bibi Dong exhaled in relief, smiling as she held his hand. She softly said, "Come sit up front. I can't see you well from here."
"Alright."
Qian Renjue nodded slightly and obediently moved to sit in front of Bibi Dong.
She removed her crown, patting the table next to her.
"Sit here and let Mom lean on you for a while."
"Okay."
Qian Renjue sat at the table, placing his knees flat.
Bibi Dong laid her head on his lap.
"Mom, if you need any help with something, just tell me," Qian Renjue said softly, stroking her hair.
"I remember sister still has a pill of 'Phantom Sugar Candy,' but she's not using it right now…"
"Don't worry, Jue, I'm just a little tired. There's no need for that."
Bibi Dong smiled faintly, appreciating his care and the comforting strokes on her head.
"Keep that for emergencies. Just stay with me."
"Okay."
Qian Renjue nodded and didn't insist further.
In the original timeline, Bibi Dong had passed the trial; there was no reason why she wouldn't succeed now.
"Did you call me here to talk about Yanyan and the others' letters?"
"Yes," Bibi Dong murmured as she lay on his lap, her delicate hand brushing the two portraits beside her.
"This little snake is the maid Xiao Xue found for you, right? And this veiled girl must be your fiancée. She looks nice."
"Yeah, they both look fine."
Qian Renjue nodded, gazing at Ye Lingling's portrait.
However, something was missing; her eyes were still lifeless.
"This Ye family girl is quite stubborn. For the past two years, she's been borrowing someone else's letters to communicate with you," Bibi Dong teased, tightening her grip on his waist.
"And she hasn't even bothered to learn your preferences."
Dugu Yan had already secretly informed Qian Renjue about this when she became his maid.
"Maybe because I didn't reply back then, she's still hesitant," Qian Renjue said, understanding Ye Lingling's cautious approach.
"Well, this time, you should meet her," Bibi Dong whispered.
"Yeah, I'll go meet her. Otherwise, it seems rude, and Grandpa has been urging me," Qian Renjue said with a helpless smile.
Qian Daoliu had been pushing for him to marry, even suggesting finding someone older to give him a great-grandchild.
As Qian Renjue's strength grew, so did Qian Daoliu's eagerness to see the Qian family line continue.
"He can worry all he wants," Bibi Dong said, frowning slightly. "But when you meet her, make sure not to do anything inappropriate."
"Mom, she's only eleven!" Qian Renjue exclaimed, rolling his eyes as his voice raised a little.
"Haha, Mom's just worried about you," Bibi Dong chuckled, reminding him, "When you're in the Star Dou Great Forest, don't go too deep. Listen to Ling Yuan."
"Don't worry, Mom, I've been there before."
Qian Renjue nodded.
At fourteen years old, he was already a sixty-third-level Soul Emperor.
When he acquired his sixth soul ring, several Red-Robed Cardinals had accompanied him. The Star Dou Great Forest was no stranger to him.
"One more thing: Don't stay out too long, or Mom will start missing you and lose appetite."
Bibi Dong gazed up at him, her tone resentful.
"Of course. Once I'm done, I'll come back as soon as possible. I'll keep in touch with you when I leave the Star Dou Forest, and sister in Heaven Dou City," Qian Renjue promised, gently caressing her warm cheek.
"Good."
"I'm letting you go out to gain experience, not to make me worry," Bibi Dong said, knowing that Qian Renjue would eventually need to venture out on his own, becoming a leader on his own
"I understand," Qian Renjue replied.
His main goal was to find the Blue Silver Forest and help the Blue Silver Emperor recover her strength
"All right, take the portraits with you. I need to handle some matters now," Bibi Dong said reluctantly as she sat up.
Qian Renjue waved his hand, making the items on the table disappear, and handed Bibi Dong her crown. He smiled and said, "Mom, why don't you teach me how to handle the affairs of the Spirit Hall?"
"Oh? Sure," Bibi Dong raised her eyebrows, smiling brightly. She linked her arm with Qian Renjue's as they walked out of the Pope's hall.
"Then Jue helps mom with writing"
"Mm."
