Douluo Dalu : Body martial spirit

Chapter 31: Bronze Soul Battle Emblem

Just as Yang Xiong said, it's rare for a Soul Master to have their first two soul skills be amplification types. These kinds of amplification skills offer a clear advantage in Soul Battles, especially for someone like Hu Yanmeng, who had already reached level 28 but lacked the explosive power of group attack or defense-type soul skills in team fights.

Hu Yanmeng's face darkened. "What do you know? That guy only won because he could fly. Otherwise, he's inferior to me in every way."

Yang Xiong nodded. "I see. He probably just wore you down little by little. No wonder you lost."

Hu Yanmeng shouted angrily, "Enough talk! Let me see just how strong you really are!"

Yang Xiong shook his head. "Your weaknesses are still too obvious. Even if you try to make up for them, your body is too large and not agile enough. I could wear you down too, but I'd rather test how strong you really are."

Hu Yanmeng suddenly burst into laughter. "You shouldn't waste time talking to me. Although using soul skills consumes my soul power, the Diamond Mammoth not only has outstanding defense but also the best recovery ability among all Soul Masters."

Yang Xiong looked closely and saw that the five bloody wounds on Hu Yanmeng's shoulder had stopped bleeding and were even starting to heal.

Yang Xiong smiled. "I was just toying with you. Did you forget? I haven't even used any soul skills yet. My energy and stamina consumption are far less than yours. And who said what you just saw was my full strength?"

Hu Yanmeng was startled, but before he could react, Yang Xiong pounced like a fierce tiger. Even though Hu Yanmeng fought back with all his might, the difference in speed and agility was too great.

After throwing a series of punches, Yang Xiong suddenly used his elbow to block Hu Yanmeng's fist and then landed a heavy punch right on Hu Yanmeng's shoulder wound. Despite the defense-enhancing soul skill, the old injury tore open again.

Hu Yanmeng grimaced in pain, clenched his teeth, and tried to smash both fists down on Yang Xiong's head.

But Yang Xiong revealed a strange smile, his hands lightning-fast as he grabbed Hu Yanmeng's right arm. Instead of stopping the attack, he shifted his body and used Hu Yanmeng's force to throw him over his shoulder.

Hu Yanmeng was slammed to the ground with a loud crash. The entire arena shook slightly, and his own full-force attack seemed to backfire completely. He was left dazed and disoriented from the slam.

Before he could recover, Yang Xiong had already gripped his neck. Blood even began to drip from it. Clearly, if Yang Xiong applied even a bit more force, he could break his neck.

Only after this swift reversal did the referee react. "Congratulations to the contestant 'Dominating the World' for winning this Soul Battle!"

The entire venue erupted again. A dramatic reversal like this, especially when one side seemed far weaker, was even more thrilling to watch.

Yang Xiong simply shook his head and walked off the stage.

Originally, Yang Xiong had joined the Soul Battle competitions to gain experience and sharpen his combat instincts by fighting different opponents. Unfortunately, these high-level Soul Masters in the battle arena couldn't put much pressure on him.

Take Hu Yanmeng for example. Although he had impressive strength and some battle experience, with decent flexibility for his size, his massive build was ultimately a limitation. His speed and agility were far behind Yang Xiong's, and even his strength wasn't on par. If Yang Xiong had been focused solely on winning, he could've ended the fight in under a minute, possibly even killed him.

Over the following days, Yang Xiong participated in several more battles. But each one ended easily, requiring little effort on his part.

He even faced the opponent who had previously defeated Hu Yanmeng, a level 29 Soul Master with the Fire Eagle martial soul. This opponent could fly, moved at incredible speed, had fire attributes, and decent strength. Among Soul Masters, he was nearly unbeatable.

But Yang Xiong stood firm like a mountain, only counterattacking when attacked. His reflexes were faster, and flying consumed the opponent's soul power. In the end, it was Yang Xiong who gradually exhausted him.

This ended up being Yang Xiong's longest battle, lasting nearly an hour. He had intentionally prolonged it to experience what it was like fighting a flying Soul Master. Otherwise, he could've ended it with his first counterattack.

After thirteen consecutive days of battles, Yang Xiong achieved thirteen wins and was awarded the Bronze Soul Battle Emblem.

However, he didn't plan to continue. These battles offered too little pressure and did little to improve his actual combat experience.

More importantly, Yang Xiong had already found the information he wanted in Heaven Dou City. Now it was time for the next phase of his training, the kind where real blood would be shed.

Early that morning, Yang Xiong left Heaven Dou City alone. His destination: the Sunset Forest.

The Sunset Forest was just over 100 kilometers from Heaven Dou City. It was one of the most famous soul beast forests on the entire Douluo Continent, home to a wide variety of soul beasts, including many that were over ten thousand years old. It was the perfect place for real training, and a real challenge.

Yang Xiong knew very well that without facing danger, blood, and pressure, a Soul Master's growth would always be limited.

As for safety, he wasn't too worried. First, he was an inner disciple of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, so ordinary people wouldn't dare provoke him.

Second, he had two life-saving soul skills. Even if he encountered a higher-level Soul Master, he could escape quickly.

Besides, Soul Masters valued their lives. No one would easily provoke a disciple of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect without a good reason. Doing so could bring destruction upon their family or sect. That was the deterrent power of one of the Three Upper Sects, especially in the Heaven Dou Empire.

After walking for almost half a day, Yang Xiong finally arrived at the outer area of Sunset Forest, near a small Soul Hunting town.

This place had all kinds of merchants selling supplies needed for forest survival, as well as many mercenaries who specialized in helping people hunt soul rings.

Yang Xiong had already prepared everything. His soul tool was packed full, after all, his years of studying weren't for nothing. Books had detailed the survival rules of soul beast forests.

When a mercenary saw Yang Xiong walking alone, he tried to approach and strike up a conversation, but was quickly stopped by someone nearby with a stern look.

Yang Xiong ignored them and walked straight into the Sunset Forest.

The one who tried to approach was confused. "Boss, he's alone. Maybe it could've been a big job for us?"

The middle-aged leader responded seriously, "Don't drag me down with you. Judging by his outfit, he's from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. No wonder someone from one of the Three Upper Sects dares to enter Sunset Forest at such a young age."

Everyone around went pale with fear. In the Soul Master world, the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect was an unshakable mountain.

Everyone knew why someone would enter Sunset Forest. What came next was simply a matter of choosing the right method and time.
