Chapter 88: Chapter 88: My House Is Pretty Big
First, they were taken to check into a luxury hotel.
It was very distinctive, with half the building extending over the sea.
Every room had glass walls where you could look out at the ocean, giving people the feeling of embracing the sea.
Tomorrow would be the opening ceremony of the Tianhai Alliance Grand Competition, along with the drawing of lots.
After that, the competitions would begin.
Gu You pondered, 'For the blacksmith competition, I'll be representing the East Sea Blacksmith Association — that's unavoidable, because the Tianhai competition has restrictions on certain events. Representing myself alone is almost impossible.'
He'd already looked into it earlier.
Different ages were divided into different groups.
Gu You's age only qualified him for the youth division.
So, he could only enter the youth blacksmith competition.
The first round was called the screening test — they would perform a Hundred Refinements.
As for which rare metal they'd work with, no one knew, because it was kept strictly confidential.
After the first round, the top 64 contestants would advance to the second round.
The second round was free-form: everyone received the same metal, and how far you could refine it determined your score.
The third round was to use the refined metal from round two to craft a specified item.
Just three stages.
It sounded simple, but to get a good ranking required something truly extraordinary.
…
The day of the competition arrived.
Early in the morning, the representative teams from various cities and schools were already lined up neatly at the stadium.
The opening ceremony was held at Tianhai Stadium, a massive arena that could seat 80,000 people — the largest in the entire Tianhai Alliance.
For the eastern economic region, the Tianhai Alliance Grand Competition was the grandest event, drawing attention from across the Federation.
Every year, new outstanding talents emerged from it.
In fact, the original purpose of the Tianhai Grand Competition was to select and nurture top talents for the alliance, to cultivate future pillars of strength.
The Federation was full of competing factions, and the Tianhai Alliance was itself a powerful force — especially economically, ranking among the major provincial giants.
But what frustrated the alliance was that, since the entire eastern coast had developed relatively late, economic growth was easy, but building deep cultural and talent foundations was not something that could happen overnight.
Many inland cities had great families with a thousand or even ten thousand years of history.
The talents they nurtured had been polished through centuries, with immense heritage and deep roots.
As a result, the Tianhai Alliance was chronically short on elite talents, always lagging behind in key areas.
To the inland cities and even some federal leaders, the Tianhai Alliance was just an economic contributor — nothing more, certainly not impressive, always hovering at a middling rank within the Federation.
Naturally, the leaders of the Tianhai Alliance were unwilling to accept this.
About two hundred years ago, they founded the Tianhai Alliance Grand Competition to select and encourage talents.
Not only did they offer generous prizes, but they also provided special awards to help these talents improve and advance, all to strengthen the alliance's foundation.
…
The vast stadium was packed with people as far as the eye could see.
Even though Gu You had seen much of the world, he couldn't help but sigh inwardly at the sheer sea of humanity.
Next up was the drawing of lots according to the different competitions.
But those tasks were for the teachers.
There was also a big opening performance later — which Gu You had no interest in.
"I'm so hungry, does anyone have food?"
Just as Gu You was thinking, a voice suddenly sounded beside him.
He turned his head and saw a chubby boy weaving through the crowd, eagerly asking passersby.
"Heh! Another foodie," Gu Yue noticed the figure too and commented absentmindedly to Gu You.
"Why are you looking at me? I'm not fat! Different body types, okay? I actually need nutrition. He's just a pure natural eating machine!" Gu You rolled his eyes, too lazy to explain further.
"Hey, chubby! Here, take this."
Gu You called out to the boy and pulled a high-calorie energy bar from his storage soul guide, handing it over.
"Thanks, thanks!"
The chubby boy's eyes lit up at the sight of the bar.
He grabbed it eagerly, chewing and swallowing with satisfaction.
"Wow! So tasty! We don't have such good energy bars back home. Thank you, big brother!"
Gu You was quite pleased by the 'big brother' title.
"What's your name?"
The chubby boy said, "I'm Xu Lizhi, and my hobby is eating all kinds of delicious food!"
"Well, since you're calling me big brother, and you like eating, later I'll take you to eat your fill. Come to my hotel — it's pretty big. Just restocked yesterday with loads of seafood snacks," Gu You grinned.
Xu Lizhi's eyes sparkled as he swallowed hard.
"Wow, that sounds awesome! After the competition, can you take me? I can't wait already!"
"Of course. Give me your soul communicator number."
Gu You nodded seriously.
The two were exchanging numbers when a clear yet somewhat icy voice suddenly cut in.
"Little foodie, what are you doing here? Always just thinking about eating! It's almost our turn."
Gu Yue frowned slightly at the tone, lifting her gaze coldly.
'Hmm?'
Gu You saw a young girl approaching from behind.
She looked about the same age as Xu Lizhi, wearing the same green sports uniform.
But while the uniform looked bulky on Xu Lizhi, it fit her slender figure perfectly.
Her golden ponytail was tied neatly behind her head, and her blue eyes were strikingly beautiful, framed by long lashes.
Her fair, delicate skin seemed to glow like jelly under the sunlight.
When Xu Lizhi saw her, he jumped up like a mouse seeing a cat.
He said nervously, "Sister Xinglan, I'm sorry! But I was so hungry! You see, if I don't eat, I won't have energy, right?"
"Let's go."
The girl waved her hand.
She glanced casually at Gu You beside him and said with slight disdain, "Don't just take food from anyone. Don't you know how dangerous the world is these days? There are lots of bad people."
Gu You's eyebrow twitched.
'Did she just call me a bad person?'
'I was just trying to bring this little foodie back to my place to feed him!'
But Gu You also understood Ye Xinglan's personality — spoiled from a young age, the type who needed a real hard lesson to humble her.
"You little brat, show some respect! Do you even know who I am? And who are you compared to me?" Gu You barked.
Xu Lizhi's chubby face twitched.
Gu Yue's eyes flickered with embarrassment.
Thankfully, not many people nearby had heard.
The rest of the Zero Class were about ten meters away.
Otherwise, Gu You would definitely have become the laughingstock of the group.
And don't even mention Ye Xinglan…
