Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Auspicious Fortune Follows
Of anyone else, they might never believe it — but there was one person Zhuo Shi could trust unconditionally: Gu You.
Zhuo Shi didn't fully understand what the reappearance of an Auspicious Beast would mean, but Gu You's presence meant he could achieve such a feat — a truly terrifying ability, turning virtual things into real, tangible objects.
Gu You's entire life force was evaporating. This kind of authority was naturally abnormal, but life energy wasn't infinite; even a planet's life energy could eventually be exhausted. He could either devour others' life to replenish it, or use his own life to forcibly save another. Clearly, this was the second case now: Gu You was draining himself dry to save this little Auspicious Emperor Beast.
Suddenly, the little Auspicious Emperor Beast's third eye snapped open. Golden light surged through the cave, dazzling Gu Yue and the others so much they couldn't open their eyes.
Golden halos coiled around Gu You — this was the power of fortune. He felt an overwhelming sense of transcendence.
Auspicious aura accompanied him; he was now the Child of Destiny.
In the Douluo world, fortune existed in two forms: one belonging to soul beasts, the other to humans. The current plane master favored humans, and the soul beasts' fortune had long been nearly exhausted.
But in this virtual world, the soul beast's fortune was still abundant — even more so with the presence of an Auspicious Emperor Beast. Now, Gu You had taken over this fortune. The fact that the little Auspicious Beast had become fully materialized meant that once they left here, the fortune could be carried with him. In name, Gu You was now the Child of Fortune!
The power of fortune was profoundly mysterious. Sometimes it meant you might randomly find a million coins on the roadside, but that wasn't what mattered to the strong. The strong valued fortune because, when fighting stronger enemies, it could grant them survival chances when they should've lost. Fortune could also let cultivators multiply their cultivation speed and vastly increase their success rate in breakthroughs.
But the transmission of life energy wasn't over yet. Gu You's hair had turned snow-white, though his face remained young, his pupils a dark purple. Now, against the backdrop of his white hair, he looked strikingly beautiful.
His body functions were steadily declining. Gu You knew he couldn't keep using his life energy, so he switched to using divine power. Divine power naturally couldn't match pure life energy — but there was a reason it was called divine. Once soul power ascended to the divine realm, it transformed into divine power. Divine power carried immortality; even outside the divine realm, it could exist for a long time. And immortality meant what? It meant eternal life!
Although Gu You's divine power was overbearing, under his careful control, it could fully act as life energy. Plus, he had plenty in storage. By Gu You's calculations, the divine power given by each Dragon God seal he unlocked could last thirty thousand years! And that was just from two seals. Not to mention, that thirty thousand was if used continuously. He didn't need to fear wasting it. If everything went as expected, once the ninth seal was unlocked, Gu You could probably generate divine power himself.
Xie Xie curiously watched the waves of power pulsing off Gu You. His martial soul seemed excited, passively drawing in bits of the surrounding divine energy. Xie Xie felt an indescribable comfort throughout his body.
Xu Xiaoyan, seeing that Gu You wasn't angry at them, let out a long sigh of relief, her gaze curious as she looked at the ten-thousand-year soul ring accompanying him. That obviously wasn't Gu You's soul ring, since soul rings usually appeared all together when summoned. Historically, no fool had ever had nine soul rings and only used one in combat — that'd just be handing the enemy an opening. No matter how strong a Title Douluo's body was, if the opponent wasn't more than three levels below, they could still break through the defense and strike a killing blow. And at full burst, even a Soul Emperor could hit terrifying speeds of five hundred meters per second.
'Could this be… prepared for me?'
Xu Xiaoyan had a sudden thought. Gu You had said not long ago that he'd prepare a ten-thousand-year soul ring for her. She hadn't really believed it then — after all, how could a Soul Elder with a weak body absorb something like that?
But seeing Gu You's extraordinary abilities now, Xu Xiaoyan realized: he'd meant it!
Gu Yue's cool face trembled slightly as she sensed Gu You's divine power. It was too familiar — almost unbearably so. This was the Dragon God's divine power.
But Gu Yue didn't believe it. After all, each god's divine power carried a distinct signature, and the Dragon God was already dead. How could its divine power still exist? Besides, wasn't she herself proof of that?
Gu Yue's heart tangled with complex feelings. That was divine power — she couldn't even wield it yet. Even if she found the Dragon God Core, it would still be difficult. Yet here was Gu You, wielding it like it was nothing. As the ruler of the soul beasts, she felt… incredibly weak. If Gu You leaned toward the human side, she had no chance at victory. Perhaps only the Dragon God at this stage could truly fight him.
Gu Yue thought she really needed to have a deep conversation with Gu You — to probe him, reveal her identity, and see where he stood. At this point, she still had the ability to sacrifice herself to kill him. But if he grew any stronger, she wouldn't even be able to scratch him.
The ritual seemed nearly complete. The little Auspicious Emperor Beast's body was now fully healed.
Chirp!
The Three-Eyed Golden Lion let out a cry, its third eye now open — it had inherited the fate legacy. Gu You's fourth soul ring dimmed, and he clutched his chest, falling to one knee.
The loss of life meant Gu You didn't have much time left. His face had lost all color, pale as milk, matching his white hair — striking and sorrowful at once.
Xie Xie wanted to step forward and help, but Gu You waved a hand back. He forced himself to stand. Under Gu Yue's strange gaze, Gu You lifted the little beast by its two front paws, holding it up at his chest like a dangling dog.
"This is my pet from now on!" Gu You smiled lightly. He wondered what the big Auspicious Emperor Beast's expression would be if it found out.
The little Auspicious Emperor Beast didn't resist, letting Gu You carry it.
"Oh, right! Xiaoyan, you're just one step away from breaking through to level 30. I'll guide the soul ring for you — and it's a fierce one: the twenty-thousand-year Forest King, the Darkgold Terrorclaw Bear!" Gu You finally remembered the extra ten-thousand-year ring. He had to get someone to absorb it quickly, or it'd vanish.
Hearing it was the Darkgold Terrorclaw Bear's ring, Xie Xie could only curse inwardly. That was equivalent to an ordinary two-hundred-thousand-year soul beast, with strength at minimum on par with a human Title Douluo at rank 92–94.
And Gu You had just killed it like that? Even if the soul ring's configuration boosted his power, achieving that feat was still nearly unbelievable…
