Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Be my Student
Support-type!
Wu Zhangkong's icy expression twitched slightly.
Tang Wulin's face also darkened.
They still didn't fully understand what Xia Yi's Starshift meant.
Although Xia Yi was somewhat showy, a loss was still a loss. Losing to a Power Attack System Soul Master was far easier to accept than losing to a Support System Soul Master.
Compared to Wu Zhangkong and Tang Wulin, Holy Spirit Douluo Ya Li's eyes instantly lit up with excitement. She was even more thrilled than Bi Ji had been upon seeing Starshift for the first time.
After Xia Yi returned Na'er to her, she immediately handed Na'er over to Tang Wulin. Then, with fiery eyes, she stared at Xia Yi, more eager than a starving beggar spotting a feast. Grabbing Xia Yi's hand, she asked, "Can I see your soul skill again?"
Ya Li's reaction was entirely within Xia Yi's expectations. However, he didn't show it and instead replied reluctantly, "I've already returned Na'er to you. Give me what I want first."
Holy Spirit Douluo Ya Li froze for a moment before realizing she had been somewhat rash. "That was rude of me. Go ahead and choose."
With a wave of her hand, Holy Spirit Douluo Ya Li brought out a series of treasures—ten-thousand-year-old spiritual items, peerless soul devices, and even a piece of deep green Heaven-refined metal.
Even Wu Zhangkong couldn't help but swallow hard at the sight of these treasures.
As the wife of Poseidon Pavilion's current Master, Sky-Order Douluo Yun Ming, her generosity knew no bounds. Even Heaven-refined metal was offered.
One must know that across the entire continent, only the Divine Craftsman Zhen Hua was capable of forging Heaven-refined metal.
Many Three-Word Battle Armor Masters had exhausted their fortunes trying to secure Zhen Hua's help, yet still failed.
But Holy Spirit Douluo Ya Li actually had surplus Heaven-refined metal.
"This piece of Heaven-refined metal was specially prepared for me by Divine Craftsman Zhen Hua. It's intended as backup material for repairing my battle armor should it be damaged. It's primarily suited for Healing System Soul Masters, so most Soul Masters wouldn't find it compatible. Since it's of no use to me right now, if you want it, I can give it to you. However, I hope you don't use it to make battle armor. Although you're also a Healing System Soul Master, our martial souls are different, and this metal was custom-made for me, so it may not work perfectly for you," Ya Li explained, introducing the piece of Heaven-refined metal. In this age of ubiquitous battle armor, rare metals were as good as currency.
And Heaven-refined metal? That was in a league of its own. Across the entire continent, only Holy Spirit Douluo and Divine Craftsman Zhen Hua could boast of having reserves of it.
This piece was the most precious item in Holy Spirit Douluo Ya Li's storage soul device. Originally, she had no intention of giving it to Xia Yi.
But after witnessing Xia Yi's Starshift, she reconsidered.
In her view, the only thing that might attract Xia Yi was the Heaven-refined metal.
With its life and soul, the Heaven-refined metal might resonate with Xia Yi's Starshift.
Looking at the piece of metal before him, Xia Yi couldn't help but swallow. Even though he knew nothing about forging or rare metals, he could feel its immense value.
Resisting the urge to take it, Xia Yi shook his head forcefully and said, "That's not what I want."
"What?" Holy Spirit Douluo Ya Li was stunned, her expression incredulous.
"Yes, no," Xia Yi confirmed firmly with a nod.
"Then what do you want?" Holy Spirit Douluo asked.
"I don't know. Do you have any other treasures? Maybe take them all out, and I'll have a look," Xia Yi replied.
"Fine." Ya Li didn't appear annoyed. She retrieved all the treasures from her storage soul device.
Though every single one was priceless, none of them caught Xia Yi's interest.
"How about you release your martial soul and soul skill so I can see if there's anything among my possessions that resonates with them?" Ya Li hadn't forgotten her desire to study Xia Yi's soul skill.
"Alright." Xia Yi nodded helplessly, entering his martial soul state once more. Looking up at Ya Li, he said, "My soul skill is a healing one. Since no one here is injured, there's no way to demonstrate its effects."
"Test it on me, then," Ya Li said as she drew her nails across her palm, creating a bleeding wound before Xia Yi could stop her.
"I can't heal you. Can you pick someone else?" Xia Yi scratched his head, looking awkward.
"Why not?" Ya Li asked curiously. She had used herself as a test subject to personally experience Xia Yi's soul skill.
"Because healing your wound would require transforming my soul power into flesh to close the wound. Your cultivation is too profound, and the power contained in your body is overwhelming. Even if I used up all my soul power, it wouldn't be enough to completely heal your wound," Xia Yi explained reluctantly, though he wasn't lying.
Ya Li nodded with a slight smile. "Alright, but show me what you can manage."
"Okay." Xia Yi agreed. Activating his first soul ring, he extended two fingers and lightly traced the wound on Ya Li's palm.
A soft light emanated from his fingertips. Before Ya Li could react, her wound felt a cool sensation, and half of it had already healed.
At the same time, Xia Yi, having exhausted his soul power, turned pale and had to withdraw from his martial soul state.
Xia Yi wasn't concerned that Ya Li would uncover the secrets of Starshift. Bi Ji had spent three whole days studying it without success. How could Holy Spirit Douluo Ya Li possibly figure it out?
"What a peculiar ability." Ya Li gazed at the partially healed wound on her palm, lost in thought. She pondered for a long time without coming to a conclusion.
Finally, she looked down at Xia Yi and asked solemnly, "Would you be my student?"
"I knew this was coming!" Xia Yi thought, frustrated. When he saw Ya Li's fiery gaze, he had already guessed her intent to accept him as a disciple.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have been so accommodating, even offering the Heaven-refined metal without hesitation.
"I only want something from you that attracts me," Xia Yi replied, shaking his head. He had no interest in being a lifelong Support Soul Master.
"It's not that I don't want to give it to you, but I've already shown you all my valuable treasures, and you didn't like any of them. I can't figure out what's attracting you. How about you become my student first? When we discover what it is later, I'll give it to you. How does that sound?" Ya Li suggested with a smile.
"Forget it. Just give me the Heaven-refined metal," Xia Yi said, shaking his head. He didn't want to deal with the complications of having a teacher, especially one who couldn't even explain Starshift. What could she possibly teach him?
Besides, who knew if his next soul skill would even be a healing one after his martial soul evolved? Why would he need a Healing System teacher then?
