Chapter 430: Chapter 429: Testing Data Shocks Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineering Academy
Lin Jiayi led the Shrek delegation to a door at the eastern end of the first floor of the first-year teaching building. Above the door was a plaque with the words "Testing Room" inscribed on it.
Taking out a card hanging around his neck, Lin Jiayi waved it over a crystal-like circular scanner embedded in the door.
With a soft "beep," the metal doors slid silently open, revealing a room approximately 100 square meters in size, filled with large soul devices.
"This is our academy's testing area," Lin Jiayi began, addressing the students. "Every student is required to undergo an annual physical evaluation here. There's no need to worry—none of the testing devices will cause you any harm."
"Who would like to go first?" Lin Jiayi asked with a polite smile as he gestured toward the array of soul devices.
"I'll go," said a confident inner courtyard disciple, stepping forward. This was none other than Ye Xiaosheng, formerly the top student in Shrek Academy's Soul Engineering Department before Qian Ran claimed that title.
The disciple approached the machine, which hummed to life as it began scanning his body.
"Physical strength: Level 54. Body resilience: Level 61. Soul power fluctuation: Level 62. Height: 1.82 meters. Weight: 81 kilograms. Left arm length… No soul bone detected. Overall assessment: Soul Emperor. Physical strength: Soul Emperor. Physical power: Under evaluation."
The data readouts came rapidly, a total of over thirty detailed metrics about Ye Xiaosheng's body.
The Shrek students grew increasingly somber. While Shrek Academy had its own testing devices, they lacked the sheer sophistication of the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineering Academy's equipment, which could gather such comprehensive data in mere moments.
For many of the Shrek disciples, it felt like stepping out of a developing country into a technological wonderland. Even Qian Ran couldn't help but acknowledge that, had the Sun Moon Empire possessed stronger Martial Souls, Shrek might have long been left in the dust.
One by one, the other elite Soul Engineering students stepped forward for their evaluations. Lin Jiayi watched with a mix of admiration and respect, silently acknowledging Shrek's standing as the continent's top academy. Their students' quality was undeniable.
Finally, it was Qian Ran's turn.
When Qian Ran stepped up, Lin Jiayi's demeanor shifted. His expression grew serious, and he personally moved closer to monitor the data. Before Qian Ran had even arrived, his reputation had preceded him, and Jing Hongchen had specifically instructed Lin Jiayi to pay close attention to this individual.
The scanning device began its work.
"Physical strength: Level 85. Body resilience: Level 88. Soul power fluctuation: Level 58. Left arm length… Bone age: 14 years. Skull soul bone detected. Left arm soul bone detected. Torso soul bone detected. Overall assessment: …"
The numbers left everyone in the room stunned into silence.
The instructor responsible for recording the data froze mid-task, while Lin Jiayi's normally composed demeanor shattered entirely. Even Shrek's elite students, who knew Qian Ran was extraordinary, hadn't anticipated just how extraordinary.
Was this truly the data of a soul master? Or a monster?
Bone age of 14, soul power at Level 58, and physical metrics surpassing that of most Soul Douluos.
This wasn't just talent—this was absurdity incarnate.
"Beep… Beep… Beep…"
The device emitted a series of strange noises. The recording instructor muttered in disbelief, "The data is unstable. The testing machine must have malfunctioned…"
Glancing back at Qian Ran, the instructor's eyes betrayed a mix of shock and fear.
Lin Jiayi swallowed hard, his gaze fixed on Qian Ran. For a moment, he was at a loss for words.
At the Sun Moon Academy, most students' soul power levels typically outpaced their other metrics due to heavy reliance on artificial enhancements. Qian Ran, however, defied all expectations.
This level of physical aptitude was unheard of.
Lin Jiayi, who had seen countless prodigies, had to admit that Qian Ran was the most physically gifted individual he'd ever encountered. Not even the grandchildren of Jing Hongchen could compare.
In fact, Lin Jiayi realized with some discomfort that aside from his own higher soul power, even his physical stats paled in comparison to Qian Ran's.
After a long pause, Lin Jiayi managed to regain his composure. "Alright, we still have two more tests to conduct. Let's keep things moving."
He introduced the next test: maximum strength.
Qian Ran went first.
With a loud bang, he unleashed his full power, striking the soul device with all his might.
"Strength: Level 89."
The impact shattered the testing apparatus.
While Qian Ran felt slightly disappointed—knowing his strength wasn't yet at the level of a Title Douluo—his peers were left dumbfounded.
The final test was for reaction speed and mental acuity.
The setup was relatively simple: a square platform with sixteen palm-sized panels that would light up randomly. The task was to extinguish the lights as quickly as possible by tapping them. The test grew progressively faster and more complex, ending if any light was missed.
This test relied less on raw power and more on mental focus and reflexes.
Qian Ran's superior mental and physical coordination allowed him to breeze through the challenge. To the amazement of the instructors, he completed the test flawlessly, extinguishing lights even as all sixteen lit up simultaneously.
In the academy's history, no student had ever completed this test. The best result had been managing ten lights at once.
The instructors were dumbfounded. Even with extraordinary memory and reflexes, human hands shouldn't be capable of moving that fast.
And yet, Qian Ran had done it effortlessly, seemingly with energy to spare.
By the end of the evaluations, Lin Jiayi was visibly shaken, his legs wobbly as he arranged accommodations for the Shrek students. Afterward, he rushed to report to Jing Hongchen.
Even Huo Yuhao was shaken by Qian Ran's data. Only now did he fully grasp the vast gulf between them.
Qian Ran wasn't merely human—he was something far beyond.
"How can he flaunt himself like this in the Sun Moon Empire?" Huo Yuhao muttered, sneering. "This isn't Shrek Academy."
At Shrek, Qian Ran controlled both Cai Mei'er and Xian Lin'er, rendering the academy his domain. But here, the Sun Moon Empire wouldn't tolerate such arrogance.
"Is that so?" Qian Ran replied casually. "It's true, I can't discipline you here like I did back at Shrek." He feigned a look of helplessness.
For a moment, Huo Yuhao felt victorious. He finally saw a glimmer of hope—here, in the heart of an enemy nation, Qian Ran's days were numbered.
"Still," Qian Ran continued, patting Huo Yuhao on the shoulder, "what should I do about my frustrations? Looks like I'll have to vent on Yun'er instead."
Huo Yuhao's smile froze, his gaze burning with hatred.
"Don't worry," Qian Ran said with a smirk. "I'll be gentle with her. Yun'er deserves my love, no matter how much her unfilial son angers me."
