Chapter 10: 10 - Breaking Bonds
"Yo Bro, what's your name? What's your Job?"
Cade the most competitive and giddy shot out before I had even returned to my seat.
"Villager, Carter."
I calmly spoke out, but the three all hitched their breath.
Then Cade face twisted a little almost ugly i'd say.
"Pfffttt that's so fitting, you who thought you were the best of us, and our leader was actually such trash!"
"To think I actually liked you like that once."
"What an embarrassment for the family."
In an instant that felt like I was reading the beginning of a revenge novel all three of my siblings who'd grown up with me and were closer than friends quickly turned to insulting me upon finding out about their own high status and my own regular one.
Their voices were not quite and their insults to me, were heard by all the villagers and farmers present an insult to the very home that had raised them.
"But guys cmon it's still me, we'll go on to form an adventurer party and become the greatest in the world just like we planned."
This wasn't my plan, but Cole and Cade's who lusted after glory to overwrite the shame of being orphans.
"Bah like we'd want to party with some useless trash like you!"
"Yeah!"
"I won't be able to sleep at night knowing trash like you is near enough to do unspeakable things to my body!"
What the hell where'd the innocent ten year olds go, also the hell are you talking about Alison?
Since the ceremony was done, the three quickly fled the scene unwilling to be in my presence any longer but also unwilling to stay under the scrutinous glares of the adults still fuming about their earlier comments.
I on the other hand as nothing but one of the dregs remained behind to apologize on behalf of my siblings while also congratulating the others on their successful awakenings.
This wasn't just for their sake, seeing how the three had reacted I was sure to go home to a disaster.
And I was right, just like a cliche when I returned to the orphanage all my clothes and things had been cut apart and tossed into a puddle of mud.
Sister was crying inside when I got home not even caring about the loss of my things.
"Sister, are you okay?"
As I entered and asked she still crying raised her head.
"Ah, yes don't worry your brothers and sister have decided to go to the city, I'm sorry I couldn't stop them from doing that to your things."
Sister who was like a mother to us was more betrayed than I was, as I looked around the orphanage, I found that the three had done far worse than destroying my things.
They all three secretly must've hated this place.
They had robbed the orphanage of food, and all money saved by the Sister, and then destroyed everything of mine, as well as their own that they couldn't take with them, the bedroom as now just a room full of kindling.
"Sniff, oh that's right what name did you get graced with?"
"My name is Carter."
"Nice to meet you Carter."
"Thank you Sister!"
Even as she endured this pain in her heart, she still shone through like a ray of sunshine.
Since I had undergone the awakening technically I was no longer allowed to remain within the building but the day was still young so I helped the Sister with cleaning up the mess made by those three.
Then from my secret stash, I provided Sister with three times the amount she had as Operational Funds.
Once everything had been squared away, I gave my thanks once more to the Sister and promised to sent back funds when I found a job in the city to which she tried to refuse but I didn't relent and said she needed to take it or else i'd come back and forcibly build a new orphanage and destroy this old one!
She agreed with a simple smile at my filial piety.
Then with nothing to my name I left, I left my home behind, and in doing so I kept walking until I also left my village behind.
It was summer so even if I needed to camp on the road ahead before reaching the city I should be fine especially with my power level.
Since we were still in a party I could tell where the other three had gone, so with one last glance in their direction I disbanded the party and then removed both skills from my abilities.
they had gone of towards XX city, while I was heading towards YY city instead.
Since I now had spare points I used them to gain a rank 2 accessory called the Ring of Determination, which granted me Increased Offensive Power, and Personal Strengthening.
This raised my chances even further.
Thanks to my multiple jobs and their levels my endurance held out and with my higher agility my travelling pace was rather quick as well.
So my journey to YY would be faster than anyone else walking on foot, almost as fast as the merchants travelling by horse carts.
The only thing that caused a delay in my travels was the occasional encountering of monsters along the road, [White Fur Rabbit], [Goolet], and [Gruntling].
Rabbits i'd found in vast quantities before to the point we pretty much cleared the neighboring forest of their ilk, but Goolets were a type of slime, while Gruntlings were a type of pig or boar.
Unknown to me but if regular merchants saw either of these two they'd be stopping their carts and hiding for their lives, but I was an aimless traveller and quickly drew Arondight and ended the threats with a simple few flicks of my blade, collecting their drops into a single cloth sack at my waist and then continuing on my journey.
My newest life in this new world was about to begin!
