Chapter 436: Chapter 436: The Two-Headed Baboon
For those who do not appreciate favors, the Titans and the ancient dragons naturally do not show courtesy. Facing those who harbor malice, the best way to meet them is with fists and claws, not with a smiling face.
"The sky here is getting closer to that of Erathia," Muria pondered on his battle after fighting a broken-horned Balrog, raising his head to gaze at the sky.
The azure sky mixed with gray resembled the smoggy skies of a past life, even having clouds floating, all symbols of the Abyss being eroded and assimilated by the world laws of Erathia. Moreover, the poisonous gases in the air had thinned out significantly.
"This place is no longer the Abyss!" Under the surveillance of Ansol, the Balrog, who had been fighting with Muria for nearly a year, also looked up at the sky with a mix of desire, anticipation, and jealousy in his eyes.
Demons born in the Abyss do not necessarily love it; they equally appreciate the environments of the material realms, especially the beings that inhabit them.
"The final war is about to start." Muria looked at Ansol, who was supervising him. It was clear that his father would definitely participate in the war.
It was hard to imagine what the battle would look like. In the final moments, the Abyss would surely unleash its madness, and various powerful demons would descend in large numbers, including those legendary demons known in mortal tales.
As the laws of the Abyss clashed with those of the material realm, Erathia would lose its suppression over extraplanar creatures, and the demon lords of the Abyss would not miss this opportunity to harvest a multitude of souls.
Adding to this, the powerhouses coming from various continents, Muria could hardly imagine how chaotic the continent of Nokia Europe would become.
"Unfortunately, in such a level of combat, I can only be an observer, not directly involved." Muria felt a bit of regret, as this once-in-a-millennium upheaval was something he could only watch. The only consolation was that he would benefit from the aftermath of this change.
Ansol had already promised to seize some demi-planes for Muria when the time came, depending on Muria's performance.
Seizing, simply put, meant taking what wasn't yours through force.
According to the legends currently residing in the continent of Nokia Europe, the Rockman Kingdom along with the neighboring dwarven and dragon-man duchies and the Dark Territories almost comprised one-tenth of the area of Nokia Europe, all under the dominion of the Titans and the metal dragons.
The demi-planes that emerged and evolved on these lands were also the property of the Titans and the metal dragons; acquiring these demi-planes couldn't really be considered seizing.
...
In the tenth year of Muria's reign over the Rockman Kingdom, when he turned sixty-four, an age at which a mortal would be considered frail, yet just the beginning for those of long-lived races.
"How is the resettlement of the refugees going?" Muria asked with a frown from his throne. This was his avatar; his true self was still in the Abyss, but none of the ministers or nobles below realized this.
"The food, clothing, and the temporary tents you ordered have all been distributed. But there are still many dangers, such as monsters in the wilderness and those creatures corrupted by the Abyss's essence. Without the protection of the cities, these civilians are too easily killed."
"Do the best we can," Muria sighed. The world's absorption of the Abyss provided opportunities for legendary beings but spelled disaster for weaker lives.
Although protected by the Titans and ancient dragons, countless humans in the Rockman Kingdom still died daily. Legendary demons could appear anywhere and were unpredictable.
Such demons, merely by their presence, could annihilate a city's population with the energies they emitted. Those whose homes were destroyed and could become refugees were considered lucky. The unlucky were reduced to dust, their souls devoured, their existence completely erased.
The situation in the Rockman Kingdom was, sadly, one of the better scenarios in Nokia Europe. When powerful demons caused destruction, dragons or Titans promptly dealt with them.
In other nations, powerful demons often razed city after city, leaving mountains of corpses and rivers of blood, as these countries lacked beings powerful enough to suppress or seal the demons quickly.
Skeletons exposed in the fields, no chickens crowing for thousands of miles. This was the plight of all sentient races on the continent of Nokia Europe, with population numbers plummeting. Death and destruction were the main themes.
This was an inevitable result of the world merging with the Abyss; Erathia too had to pay a price.
...
"Crack!" A harsh breaking sound rang in Muria's ears as the Titan stared dumbfounded at the crack beneath his feet, sensing a deadly threat as he saw the brilliant, dazzling light spreading from it.
"Move back!" His father
's warning rang out as Muria instinctively moved away from the rapidly widening chasm.
"What is that?" Muria looked uncertainly at the light spreading across his field of vision. Just by gazing at it, he felt dizzy. While he gleaned much information from the light, upon closer examination, he found he understood nothing.
"Look carefully, this is the manifestation of laws, something many legends never see in their lifetimes. Remember as much as you can now; you might not see it again until you yourself ascend to epic status."
Hearing his father's words, Muria fought against the increasing dizziness and the urge to close his eyes, staring intently at the brilliant radiance emanating from the shattered Abyssal ground.
As Muria's true self observed the manifestation of the laws during the formation of a demi-plane, his avatar in the council hall sensed a sudden and intensifying ominous presence.
"A powerful demon has descended upon the capital," Muria's avatar sneered, his eyes glowing with golden light piercing through the palace roof to the skies above Scarlet.
What should have been a clear sky rapidly darkened, a suffocating aura spreading. A monstrous apparition with snake-like arms, two baboon-like heads, reptilian legs, and a twisted tail slowly emerged in the sky…
