DIVINE STAR

Chapter 7: TWINS

Inside the high-tech prison, Boa, Yunbam, and Jen step out of the elevator, passing through multiple gates as they make their way to the prison floor. As they arrive, prisoners immediately take notice, their voices echoing through the halls.

"Boa is back!" one shouts.

"Welcome back, King of Honors!" another yells.

"Is it that time?! For Honor! Boa! Boa!"

"Jen is back too! Captain Jenny!"

The prisoners bang against the bars, their voices filling the space. Yunbam winces, covering his ears from the overwhelming noise. Boa simply raises his hand, and instantly, silence falls over the prison.

A prisoner wearing a guard's uniform steps forward and introduces himself. "Peace Officer Hank," he says. Then, with a smirk, he adds, "The honored man has returned to claim his prize. This way, Boa."

He leads them to a cell, unlocking the door. Boa steps inside alone, sitting on a chair as a giant man sleeps on an oversized bed nearby. The massive figure stirs, sniffing the air before his eyes flutter open. The moment he sees Boa, he instantly wraps him in a crushing hug.

Outside the cell, Yunbam's eyes widen in shock. "He's huge…" he mutters, taking in Crank's towering nine-foot frame and bulging muscles.

Jen bangs against the bars, smiling. "It's time, Crank. You're finally free."

Crank gently sets Boa down and kneels on one knee. Boa looks him in the eyes and nods. "You've served your time. Now, we must achieve our dreams together."

Crank hesitates for a moment before speaking. "Uh… Boa, I have one request to make first."

Meanwhile in the noble trail, Gaia sits in her room, surrounded by a sea of digital notes and screens. She watches various footage, scribbling down notes on mistakes and better strategies. Her eyes constantly shift between managing points and purchasing items, refining her plan. As she flips through the pages of the origin book of Speedy, a teammate had offered it to her. The book reveals the ghost's true name, Quinn, and lists the locations of items crucial for exorcising it, along with the conditions for the exorcism.

Gaia glances at the two knives her teammates provided: one engraved with the word "Blood" and the other with "Kill." She simulates every possible action and finishes her meticulous planning. Standing, she heads to the lobby and announces, "Alright, everyone, this may have taken longer than I wanted, but we have three hours left. So listen closely as I display my perfect plan."

Moments later, Ortis leads a group to the asylum's back courtyard. He steps onto the basketball court and stretches one arm out, turning to his left. An eyeball materializes on the backboard of the hoop, blinking as it locks its gaze on Ortis. As the eye fades away, a giant nose spawns on the other side of the hoop. The nose sniffs the air as Ortis slashes his arm lightly with the Blood knife.

The nose exhales heavily, and a mouth forms right beneath Ortis's feet. Stepping back, Ortis drips a few drops of blood into the mouth, which licks its lips. Suddenly, Speedy bursts out of the back door, charging with incredible speed. Ortis jumps back and orders everyone, "Get ready!"

Speedy dives headfirst into the mouth, consuming the blood. Magic chains appear, wrapping around Speedy as it screams in agony. Its body floats into the air as Ortis commands, "Go!" Strong teammates grab the chains and pull tightly. Ortis walks up to Speedy as it opens its mouth. He offers more of his blood, and Speedy continues to drink, shrinking in size. One by one, the team pulls Speedy carefully inside the asylum.

Meanwhile, Gaia stands in the basement of the asylum, observing the many beds in a room. She opens the origin book again, and upon seeing Speedy's real name, Quinn, she scans the beds' names and spots one that matches. Her teammates arrive, carrying Quinn on the magic chains. They lay him in the bed, and the chains latch onto it. Speedy thrashes, its form shifting from large to small, its eyes burning with rage.

Gaia looks at Ortis. "Ortis, sing the phrase from the magic book we obtained from the chapel."

Ortis begins reading, but Speedy grows more enraged. Gaia glances at him, her voice calm and soft as she begins to sing, "Thou soul must have endeavored so much from thy life, Thou must be at peace with thyself, as blood is not for thyself."

Ortis follows suit, singing the words almost perfectly in sync with Gaia. Speedy's eyes turn blue, and its form begins to calm. Gaia continues softly singing, "Thy self shall be with thy family once thou accept this final tranquility."

Ortis finishes the line, and Speedy lies in bed, peaceful at last. Suddenly, a small energy devil emerges from Speedy's chest. Gaia doesn't hesitate—she plunges the Kill knife into the devil's heart. It screams, its red energy surging through Gaia's arms as she closes her eyes, focusing on happy thoughts. The rest of the team prays, keeping the atmosphere of peace steady.

The red energy slowly returns to the devil as the knife dissolves. The devil transforms into a small angel, its wings glowing brightly, filling the room with light. The angel sings before bursting into a shower of colorful sparks, revealing the text, "Halfway 2/4."

Everyone celebrates as they carry Gaia in their arms, meeting up with the rest of the team in the back of the asylum. Laughter and cheers fill the air. Gaia looks up at the night sky, a soft sigh escaping her lips as she mutters to herself, "I'm going to need a long break after this trail... my brain is going to be fried."

Moments later, Gaia and her team spread out across the basement floor, each of them searching different rooms, cameras in hand. They take photos with flashes lighting up the dark corners. Gaia enters a room and snaps a picture, but when she looks at the camera's screen, there's nothing unusual in the shot.

She moves to a padded cell, and as she takes another photo, her eyes catch something in the image. A little girl ghost sits calmly next to a table. The girl's expression is serene, and she holds onto a origin book.

Gaia takes a seat across from the table, her gaze falling to the two plates placed there. Suddenly, the tip of the origin book materializes across from her. Slowly, she reaches out and pulls it toward her, watching as it fully materializes in her hands. She opens the book to find the ghost's name: Daisy. The page also lists the items needed and the conditions for exorcising it.

Gaia looks up at Ortis. "Can you hand me the item we found earlier?"

Ortis nods and retrieves a mask that they found from the next room, handing it to her. Gaia inspects the mask, noting that the inside of it bears the letter "T."

Gaia puts on the mask, and immediately, Daisy becomes visible through its lenses. She then pulls out a spirit box, turns it on, and presses it against her lips.

"Daisy," she speaks softly.

Daisy's eyes light up as she finally notices Gaia. Then the little ghost rushes forward and wraps her arms around her.

"Hmmm, this one is pretty easy," Gaia muses, glancing at her team. "I need four of you with the strongest wills to form a circle around us."

Ortis and three others step forward, taking their places as they sit cross-legged in a circle around Gaia and Daisy.

"Meditate and pull out your inner spirit," Gaia instructs.

Ortis closes his eyes, focusing on his breathing as he descends deep into his mind. Gaia raises her hand, and a glowing digital display appears on her palm, showing her total points: 143,659. As the numbers begin to drop, Gaia speaks again.

"We must reduce our total points by half in order to perform this ritual, so let's get it right on the first try."

As the points reach half, a digital barrier forms around the circle. Suddenly, Ortis and the other three's spirits emerge from their bodies, standing around Gaia and Daisy. The spirits reach for Daisy, attempting to lift her away, but she shrieks in terror.

"Don't leave me, please! Not again!" Daisy wails.

Gaia's mind races, processing information at lightning speed. "Again?" she murmurs to herself.

Her eyes scan the room once more—two plates on the table, matching clothes in the closet, and crayon drawings of Daisy with another person. A realization strikes her like lightning.

"I should have thought of this sooner. I assumed we needed to exorcise Daisy first, but… we haven't seen the fourth ghost at all. Could it be—"

She flips through Daisy's origin book, her breath catching as she notices the last pages are ripped out.

"The fourth ghost is supposed to be part of this exorcism ritual!"

Before she can react, Ortis and the other spirits hug Daisy. The moment they make contact, Daisy lets out a bloodcurdling scream. Her form begins to twist, her small frame warping into something monstrous.

"No, I messed up—back off, now!" Gaia shouts.

But it's too late. Daisy's body contorts, transforming into a monstrous entity that violently throws the spirits off. Two of them are crushed instantly, their digital forms shattering into pixels before vanishing completely. Their real bodies collapse lifelessly to the ground, the barrier around the ritual fading into nothingness.

Gaia doesn't hesitate. She lunges forward, wrapping her arms tightly around Daisy's monstrous form.

Through the spirit box, her voice comes out calm and steady.

"I'm here, Daisy."

Daisy shudders. Her monstrous figure trembles before rapidly shrinking, her form twisting back into the little ghost girl.

Ortis opens his eyes, breathing hard. "I almost got eliminated there! Lady Gaia, what went wrong?"

Gaia removes the mask as Daisy silently returns to her chair, waiting. Without saying a word, Gaia quickly takes photos all around the room. She reviews them carefully until she spots a barely visible orb in the corner of one of the images. Her eyes narrow. Slipping the mask back on, she looks around before speaking into the spirit box.

"I saw you. Where are you?"

Suddenly, static crackles through the spirit box. Then, a distorted voice echoes: "Give it back… to me."

Gaia barely has time to react before a floating orb shoots into the room, slamming into her chest. The force lifts her off the ground and pins her against the wall. Her teammates rush forward, trying desperately to pull her down, but their efforts are useless. Gaia chokes as blood seeps through the mask, dripping down her chin.

Once more, the spirit box speaks, the voice growing more aggressive. "Give it back now!"

Ortis quickly leaps forward and rips the mask off Gaia's face. Her body collapses into the arms of her teammates as she gasps for breath. Suddenly, the mask floats up from Ortis's hands before shattering into pieces.

Daisy's form becomes visible to everyone. Her expression twists in rage as she screams, "You left me again!"

In an instant, she transforms into a monstrous ghost, her aura radiating pure malice. Then, chaos erupts. She lashes out, tearing through everything in sight. Blood—digital yet disturbingly real—splashes across the walls as body parts scatter throughout the hallway. Ortis yanks Gaia away, forcing her to run as the massacre unfolds behind them. They sprint through the asylum, barely making it outside, along with ten of their teammates who manage to escape.

Through their headsets, a panicked voice crackles in. "Lady Gaia! This monster is tearing through the asylum, destroying everything!"

A horrific scream follows before the transmission abruptly cuts off. The sickening sound of bones being crushed lingers through the speakers.

Gaia taps her headset. "All scouts, retreat! Head back to base!"

Moments later, Gaia and her remaining twenty teammates gather in the lobby of the new station. Taking a deep breath, Gaia turns to the guide.

"Can you examine this origin book and tell me what you know?"

The guide adjusts his glasses, carefully flipping through the book. After a few moments, he sighs. "This origin book isn't complete. Several pages have been ripped out, and some of them have been rewritten. That's all I can determine."

A loud ding suddenly rings out, drawing everyone's attention to the board behind the guide. New text flashes across the screen:

"??? Secret action unlocked: Show the guide Daisy's origin book – Reward = Hint of the last ghost."
A sudden pop noise fills the room. As knowledge appears on her head. Her eyes widen as glowing text appears before her.
"Hint – The fourth ghost is among you."
She scans each of her teammates, her gaze sharp and calculating. In the corner of her eye, a timer appears—1 hour and 45 minutes remain.

Tapping her headset, she switches to a private channel with the guide. "Can any of the items in the store detect if someone is possessed by a ghost?"

A brief pause. Then, the guide responds, "Currently, no."

Gaia clenches her jaw, thinking at lightning speed. Her mind races back to the asylum, specifically the paddle cells. She tries to recall the room next to Daisy's, but the name on the door remains frustratingly blurred in her memory.

Digging deeper, a detail resurfaces—back at the start of the game, she was sitting on a car. A car with the letter T on it just as the mask also had the letter T on it.

Her eyes widen.

She still has access to all of the car keys.

Moments later, Gaia and her team arrive at the parking lot, the distant booms from the nearby asylum echoing through the air. The ground trembles slightly beneath them.
Gaia's eyes lock onto the car with the T on its hood. Without hesitation, she pushes the key into the lock, opens the door, and begins searching frantically. Her fingers skim through old documents and scattered items until—there.
She pulls out the missing papers.
The moment she touches them, they digitally transform into data, shimmering as they merge into the origin book. The ripped pages restore themselves, their torn edges sealing back into place and the rewritten words changes back to their original words.
Gaia stares at the book as the new information reveals itself. Her breath catches. Her eyes widen.
Above her head, the word "Knowledge" appears in glowing letters.
She steps out of the car, her gaze sweeping across the parking lot. Taking a deep breath, she says, "So the true ritual site was here all this time… and the last ghost is Daisy's twin."

Silence follows.

Gaia shifts her focus to her teammates, carefully observing their reactions. No one flinches. No one looks uneasy. No visible changes in behavior.

No signs of possession.

Gaia orders her team, "Fill up the cars with gas. We need to clear this lot."

Moments later, after every vehicle is moved, a data magic circle shimmers into existence, glowing on the cement beneath them. Gaia immediately flips open the origin book, scanning its pages for the true exorcism conditions.

Her mind races.

"I need to use the remainder of my points to activate this ritual… and I still have to find the correct possessed person before Daisy destroys the entire asylum."

She lifts her gaze toward the asylum. Inside, Daisy rampages, tearing through what little remains. Walls collapse, fire sparks, and the structure groans under the weight of its destruction. Time is running out.

Gaia turns her attention back to her teammates, scrutinizing each one and talking to herself "Someone among them is the fourth ghost. But if that's true… then who—or what—was the spirit that attacked me in the asylum?"

Her breath catches.

Her eyes widen in realization.

"The spirit that attacked me… it wasn't the fourth ghost. It was the original soul of the body that the fourth ghost took over."

Then, another memory strikes her—the voice from the spirit box. A voice she has heard before.
