Chapter 29: Runes of Dominion
Logan read the letter a couple more times but it didn't change its content.
"I had almost forgotten about the first letter I had received." A burst of corrosive darkness left his hand and disintegrated the letter.
"Let them come and I'll make them regret ever being born." A deep and crooked smile twisted Logan's face.
He went back to his bed and slept off.

On the borders between the Dawn Kingdom and the Aereon Empire, an elderly man could be seen floating mid-air.
He had on a golden robe that fluttered steadily even though there was no wind.
He had yellow streaks on his grey hair and his long beard was neatly combed.
Opposite this man was Emperor Kai, they both stared at each other.
"Kai Blackwood… or should I now address you as Emperor Kai, what reason did you have to interrupt the investigation of the kingdom?" The man stroked his beard, his eyes uninterested.
"Now Rune Magus, that's no way to talk to someone. Especially your former disciple." Emperor Kai teased the Rune Magus.
"I may be old, but I am not senile. Even now that you seem to have gone rogue, I'll still acknowledge the talent you possess." The Rune Magus replied, still stroking his beard, which appeared to be a habit of his.
"I came here not to tease or trade words unnecessarily but to address the refugee you harbor." He continued.
"Oh… That's Soul King is it not?" Emperor Kai's eyes shone with a cold excitement.
"No, I won't give him to you. If you want him, make me." He completed with a grin on his face.
"I am unlike the Death Magus in terms of impulsive and senseless violence but I do not fear engaging in such. Do not force my hand, Kai." He stopped stroking his beard and stared Emperor Kai down.
"I won't repeat myself." He stated before going silent.
"Since you won't repeat yourself, I will. Make. Me." Emperor Kai dragged the last of his words.
"Storm King's Decree." Kai's excitement was palpable through his voice.
The winds carried his voice before they grew still. The sky darkened and rumbled as though ready to break forth with divine fury.
A crown made of crackling lightning and wind upon Emperor Kai's head.
Innumerable tornadoes spun into existence carrying with them frightening bolts of lightning that decimated the terrain below them.
The Rune Magus appeared unfazed until a giant bolt of lightning struck him.
The smoke produced slowly gave way to reveal the old man with his robe still untouched.
Golden runes left his body and fused with the fabric of reality.
"Calm winds." His voice was barely heard among the raging winds and violent bolts of lightning yet the former vanished completely.
The winds returned to normal leaving only the lightning that crackled in the air.
"Allfather's Rune." Emperor Kai clicked his tongue in annoyance before waving his hand.
"Cataclysmic Voltage." Bolts of lightning flared from Emperor Kai and fused with those already in the air.
The lightning slowly gained an orange hue that seemed to radiate pure destructive power.
Emperor Kai moved his finger and then the sky exploded.
A massive detonation followed his movement, the immense heat released by the sudden discharge of energy stored within the lightning changed the terrain around them, and ionized the air.
More lightning bolts were produced which in turn detonated this ionizing the air further and creating more lightning.
Amongst the chaos and lightning that spread across the terrain, a soft golden glow appeared and soon overcame the fury of the lightning spell.
The Rune Magus soon became visible and unlike the ground below which was in molten ruins, his robe barely had any damage with only a bit of his right sleeve burnt.
He waved his hand and the battlefield returned to its original state- untouched.
Emperor Kai glared at the Rune Magus down in cold distaste.
"Emperor Kai, you've made a recurring attempt at assaulting me and all I've done is defend. Now…" The Rune Magus lifted both hands and started his attack.
Thousands of runes left his figure, some fusing with reality and others floating around him.
The runes slowly formed five concentric rings that each radiated a peculiar power.
"Eitrfall. Þórrgjaldr. Niðingrvegr. Hrafnblóð. Ginnungdrasill." The outermost ring turned blue, the next purple, red, white, and then black.
The rings began to rotate and charge up with energy.
"Judgement of the Thunder God." A massive bolt of lightning left Emperor Kai, he planned to interrupt the spell.
As the lightning bolt approached the Rune Magus, the ring stopped rotating, and with it so did Emperor Kai's spell.
In fact, everything had stopped moving, leaving only the rune magus.
The latter only smiled before flying off into the Empire to find who he was looking for.

Logan was sleeping when he felt something on his face, and his hand subconsciously tried to swat it.
But the thing didn't budge, it even held on tighter. Logan reached his hand and felt someone's hand.
His eyes flew open to catch someone over him with a piece of cloth over his nose.
He tried to fight back but most of his limbs were being restricted by others around him- the accomplices of the person trying to knock him out.
He planned on breathing through his mouth but it had been covered and so, by instinct, he inhaled and the world around him slowly faded until he passed out.
